2.6 Use of adhesives, glues or other fl uids

The use of the valve with adhesives, glues or general fl uids must be respect the following basic rules.

Before use a specifi c type of fl uid check that:

• The fl uid viscosity is compati ble with the features of the valve• The characteristi cs of the fl uid meet the desired requirements • The datasheet of the fl uid provided by the manufacturer includes all the informati ons about the

fl uid such as: viscosity, applicati ons, gluing ti me (for glues or adhesives) and storage• The storage ti me of the fl uid has not been exceeded• The fl uid has not been exposed to temperatures near or below than zero therefore it has

deteriorated• The packaging of the fl uid are sealed

For the use of special adhesives, glues or fl uids we recommend to contact the Zator company to verify the compati bility of the applicati on.

Before use a diff erent type of fl uid clean accurately the valve to avoid possible contaminati on of the new fl uid.

When used water-based adhesives of glues they are easily removable with water in their liquid state. However, when they harden is more diffi cult to remove it. For this reason, before long stop it is recommended to wash accurately the valve. Please refer to the maintenance program shown in this manual.

3.2 Technical data

The pneumati c spray valve MZS has been designed and realized for its use on various kind of producti on machines: its design and versati lity make it ideal for any applicati ons that require the use of spray valves. It’s a dispenser of low and medium viscosity glues, adhesives and fl uids. The valve is pneumati cally controlled by a solenoid control valve and an external solenoid valves for the nebulizati on of the fl uid. It’s strength and compact size. It has the parti cularity to have nozzle and cap with anti -sti ck coati ng and a self-cleaning needle which ensure the long operati on ti me of the valve. The micrometric adjustment allows a fi ne control of the glue quanti ty dispensed.

3.3 Functi oning descripti on

The valve 3A is composed mainly of:

1. Air cap2. Nozzle3. Needle4. Air piston5. Spring6. Solenoid valve7. Valve body

3A. Internal secti on diagramof the main components

(for illustrati on only)

When the valve is not acti vated, the needle closes the nozzle seat, pushed by a spring, and stops the fl uid under pressure to fl ow out from the nozzle hole.

When the external solenoid valve that allow the drive air to fl ow inside the piston chamber is acti vated, this acti on acti vated the valve. Then the piston moves back together with the needle, allowing the fl uid fl ow to come out from the nozzle. At the same ti me, the acti vati on of the second external solenoid valve allows the nebulizati on air to fl ow inside the air cap where it mixes with the fl uid and comes out from the air cap in spray form.

4 INSTALLATION

4.1 Fixing and placement of the valve

The MZS valve must be fi xed on a proper bracket by using the threaded holes (M5 dimension) machined on the valve body.A vibrati on-free environment and a good accessibility for regulati on, cleaning and maintenance and a good fi xing of the valve to the support/bracket and of the latt er to the machine must be guaranteed.

The ideal working positi on of the valve is verti cal, with the nozzle facing downwards. It’s possible to ti lt the valve of ±45° degrees. The recommended distance between the nozzle and the surface to be glue is between 20 and 40 mm.Note that this distance defi nes the size of the applicati on area of the nebulized fl uid.Increasing the distance between the valve and the surface to be glue/coat you will obtain a bigger area with a litt le quanti ty of applied fl uid. Conversely, decreasing the distance between the valve and the surface, you will obtain a smaller area with a big quanti ty of applied fl uid (for details see secti on 5.3 - Nebulizati on adjustment).

Other diff erent positi ons are possible upon approval of the Zator.

5 VALVE ADJUSTMENTS

5.1 Fluid quanti ty adjustment

The adjustment of the dispensed fl uid quanti ty (ex. glue) by the valve is determined by:

• The nozzle diameter: greater diameter → more fl uid quanti ty• The fl uid pressure: greater pressure → more fl uid quanti ty• The needle travel adjustment: greater needle travel → more fl uid quanti ty

Operati ng on these points it’s possible to adjust the dispensed fl uid quanti ty.

5.2 Needle travel adjustment

To adjust the needle travel, operate on the micrometric adjustment handle placed on the top of the valve. This handle allows to adjust the dispensed fl uid quanti ty with a fi ne control.

Turn counter-clockwise to increase the needle travel therefore the dispensed fl uid quanti ty.

Turn clockwise to decrease the needle travel therefore the dispensed fl uid quanti ty. At the end of the needle travel, the valve is completely closed, therefore it doesn’t dispense any fl uid.

Don’t ti ghten with excessive force the needle adjustment handle to avoid damage to the nozzle and needle.
