Purpose: Engage PLTW students beyond high school graduation

Eligibility Requirements:• Must be a past or current PLTW student• Must have completed two or more PLTW high school courses• Must complete the online registration application

PLTW Alumni Association Advisory Board

• The PLTW Alumni Association Advisory Board is a newly formed member-based committee established to lead alumni engagement and represent the student experience at the national level.

• The purpose of the PLTW Alumni Association is to engage PLTW students beyond high school graduation and sustain the connection between alumni and the PLTW network.

• Alumni leaders will help fulfill this purpose by generating innovative ideas and strategies to engage alumni in PLTW events, STEM initiatives, and volunteer activities.

PLTW Alumni Association Campus Initiative

Start a PLTW Alumni Association Initiative on Your Campus!

It is easy to get started. Your group will need to do the following: 1. Select a Campus Representative - Appoint a representative to serve as the contact

person for your campus PLTW Alumni Association.2. Notify the national PLTW Alumni Association – Contact the national PLTW Alumni

Association ([email protected]) to notify them about your new association and receive your welcome packet.

3. Identify PLTW Alumni on Campus – Talk to campus administrators to help find creative ways to identify PLTW alumni on campus and connect them to other students.

4. Register Participants in the PLTW Alumni Association – All participants must register to become a member of the PLTW Alumni Association at www.pltw.org/alumni.

5. Connect on Social Media – Join the PLTW LinkedIn Group and tweet using #PLTWAlumni.

6. Report Attendance and Events – Please send updates on local alumni association events and activities to [email protected].

PLTW Alumni Association Campus Initiative

Here are a few ideas to help make the PLTW Alumni Association on your campus a success:

• Facilitate networking with other alumni – host social events and mixers, attend sporting

events, study together

• Mentor PLTW students in local schools

• Identify and participate in volunteer opportunities

• Assist with local STEM events

• Judge competitions for HOSA, SkillsUSA, TSA, First, and VEX robotics

• Speak to students and teachers about the value of PLTW

• Assist students and teachers in local PLTW classrooms

• Network with industry professionals – plan and organize Meet and Greet events

• Coordinate professional development opportunities – coordinate workplace visits and

invite professionals to speak at meetings and events

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)

• Organizations for individuals enrolled in a career and technical education program that engages in integrated education activities as an integral part of the instructional program

• A unique program of career and leadership development, motivation and recognition for middle, secondary, and postsecondary/collegiate students enrolled in career and technical program

• Operate on local, state, and national levels

• USDOE allows use Federal Perkins funds to provide leadership and support activities
