Oklahoma City, OK

As the Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late

Model Series returns tonight, the 100 lap event is the third of a five race schedule. The final two are Aug 24th and Sept 29th.

The finale will be the Night of Champi-

ons, which will crown the 2012 Champs in the PLM, Modifieds, Sports-men and Bombers. It will be a Saturday night race. If past years are any indication, it will be four races of edge of your seat excitement.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The PLM

cars have 2 more races, and each is important. Just like the Super Lates, these drivers are racing for a spot in the Snow-flake 100 at the 45th Annual Snowball Derby©. A top 10 finish in points could land a driver a guar-anteed spot in the Snow-flake, if he/she doesn’t qualify fast enough to get in on qualifying time.

Right now Mike Garvey has the top spot in the

PLM points. You can see the top ten on the back page. Up and commers like Mason Massey of Georgia, who is out of the top 10, (and the subject of Chuck Corder’s article inside on page 2), is one who could benefit by a big night tonight and the rest of the year.

Now is when you begin to see the serious

side of all drivers, as they begin preparations for the most popular week-end in Short Track Racing come December, and it all happens here at 5 Flags Speedway.

One final note on the Snowball Derby, if

you want the same seats you had last year, you have until Wednesday to secure a renewal ticket. All unclaimed tickets go on sale August 15th.

Now with 3500+ friends.

Bill Elliott Mentors Massey

What were you doing at the ripe old age of 4? Mason Massey was winning races. And we’re not talking about on a PlayStation or Xbox. Real life, wheel-to-wheel action in a quarter midget. Barely free from a onesie, Massey captured his first checkered flag in just his fifth race.

“It was awesome for me,” Massey said. “I’ve always loved racing. I just focused hard at it.” How’s your self-esteem now, folks? The 15 year old brings his steely-eyed determination the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series race tonight.

In the first PLM race in March, Massey ran up front for most of the race before finishing eighth.

“It was awesome, for sure; an awesome racetrack,” said Massey, who was unable to compete in the second PLM race after it was postponed because of rain. “It was a lotta fun. The caution flag came out late and we got hung out. I don’t know what happened, but I loved it down there for sure.”

And the legions of Five Flags fans are sure to grow to love Massey, as well. Not just because of his limitless potential,. They’ll love him for the car he drives, the familiar No. 9 for Bill Elliott Racing.
