All forms MUST be returned by Friday, 31 st July. Survey Monkey Thank you to all the families who responded to the survey regarding the new student reporting format as we had 132 responses from all levels throughout the school. There were 5 questions about the student reports and the newly introduced Self Assessment by the students. A number of changes will have been evident in the reports and the feedback from the survey has indicated that parents have found this information about their child’s attitudes, behaviour, effort and achievements valuable. One major change was the separation of effort and behaviour in the classroom from the specialist areas. The introduction of student Self Assessment, where students are asked to reflect on their learning to be included in the for- mal report and shared with parents and guardians, has also had a favourable response. Some parents have noted that their child is harder on themselves than their teacher, whilst others have commented on the correlation in the report to the areas for improvement, from the student and teacher’s perspectives. Education State Consultation On Friday, 10th June 2015 the Premier, Deputy Premier and Ministers Mikakos and Herbert released two consultation papers outlining the government’s vision for the Education State and the associated consultation processes. These two consultation papers will guide discussions across the community and with government: one provides a general overview; the other is more targeted to schools. Principals are encouraged to promote the opportunities for consultation with their school community, including school council, staff, parents and students as appropriate. This may include: Items in school newsletters directing individual parents to the opportunity to provide direct feedback through the Education State website. Principals use part of school council or staff meetings to obtain parent and teacher feedback. The consultation timeline is short with the formal process concluding at 4.00p.m, Friday 31 July 2015. In line with this consultation opportunity, I have met with the Monash Wa-verley Principal network, with representation of secondary, special and primary schools to answer questions about the future of education in Vic-toria and how to build the leadership, teacher capacity and ensure quality education system that meets the needs of all students. These responses have submitted to the Department of Education. Our School Council and parent groups will also have an opportunity to participate in this review process during the July meetings.

Focus on schools

The future world of work and life is changing, and our schools face an increasingly complex and demanding set of challenges in preparing stu-dents for the workplaces of the future. Our school system must equip every student with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will see them thrive in their world, regardless of where they start out, the path they pursue or how the world might change around them. We want to hear your ideas and aspirations for the Victorian school sys-tem, and how we can make sure our schools are providing the very best education for our children and young people. The Victorian Government’s Schools Consultation Paper is designed to start the discussion – we invite you to read the paper and have your say on how we can make Victoria the Education State. The Victorian Government has appointed former Premier, the Hon Steve Bracks AC, to conduct the Schools Funding Review, which will examine future funding arrangements for schooling in Victoria for the period be-yond 2017. To participate in this review, visit the Schools Funding Review consulta-tion site.

Enrolment reminder Planning is well underway for Foundation in 2016. Even if you have a child already attending Rangeview and a sibling is due to start Foundation next year, we request that you submit their enrolment form by the end of this week, thank you.

Mr Evans is looking for an old BMX (or similar) wheel. It doesn't matter if it's a little bent or buckled, but it still needs to move rea-sonably freely. The plan is to use it as the rudder/steering wheel on one of our sailing ships for the production, so it will be modi-fied. The perfect donor would be a buckled rim from a cheap bike that you don't mind not getting back, as the tyre will be re-moved and the rim likely drilled. Please contact Mr Evans directly before bringing it in, as he doesn't want to have to organise a hard rubbish collection for the other 134 wheels that get brought in by our wonderfully helpful Rangeview community!

Thank you! Mr Evans

This week’s theme is Olden Days so we will be learning how to play lots of games like marbles, quoits, hopscotch and many more. Some people may have already noticed the signs up about our community project. This term we will be collecting used children’s goods for ‘St Kilda Mums’

Shelter. The items that we are collecting are art and craft materials, books, CD/ DVD’s and toys (no soft toys), games and puzzles. Please bring them to the OSHClub office between 7am-9am and 3pm-6pm and ensure that the items being donated are in good work-ing order. Please no large items as we don’t have the space to transport them. Thank-you

Reminder: Lately, we have noticed that some iPads aren’t being put in the OSHC office for safe keeping during Before School Care and After School Care. Parents can you please remind students to do this so that they are kept safe.
