Principal’s Report

The Christmas countdown has started with

many fabulous activities happening in December.

These include Harley rides, the Makatak

Christmas party and the end of year assembly.

Families are very welcome to attend these

events. Please keep a lookout for details in your

child’s communication book.

Principal Sue Corkery is currently on leave. I’ll be sitting in her chair until

the beginning of week 10. I have always admired Sue greatly, but my

admiration is growing by the day!

Congratulations to Mia and Deb on their wonderful organisation of the Art

Expo. It was a great afternoon. Well done to the students who received

their gold awards.

I’ve enjoyed meeting with the families of some of the new students who

will start at our school in 2020. Five new students will start Kinder, while

four students will transition to Year 7. All are very excited about joining us

at Peterborough.

We are all looking forward to the 2019 leavers dinner tomorrow night at

The Shellharbour Club. 100 guests will be attending. It’s always a great

night but will also be a little sad as we say goodbye to Britney, Samantha,

Grace, Tyson, Curtis and Ryan. These students are currently participating

in their post school transition programs.

A reminder that afternoon dismissal begins at 2:40pm. Of course, if you

are picking up your child earlier, just come to the office to sign them out.

Parents should not drive into the car park through the exit gate. This can

cause disruption to the buses.

Staff have been busy writing end of year reports for their students. I look

forward to reading the reports over the next few weeks. Our students

achieve amazing things and its my pleasure to be able to read about

those achievements. Reports will be sent home with students on

Thursday December 12.

Featured classroom Welcome to HS5

We are a young and energetic high school class of eight students who have demonstrated an

increased maturity and independence this year. Our community access program has given us

opportunities to develop our travel training and money skills. We have also enjoyed studying the

country Indonesia. Learning about the Indonesian language, culture, food and environment has been a

lot of fun. We are all very engaged with our current unit of work about space and are looking forward to

the excursion to the Science Centre soon.

Nose blowing Last week some classes were part of nose blowing

presentations. The Brolgas and Echidnas, HS5/6

and HS7/8 all learnt about how important it is to

blow your nose correctly, especially in relation to your

hearing. Presented by a hearing support consultant,

the workshops were very well received by students

and staff.

Art expo and presentation. Congratulations to Mia and Deb on the organisation of our Art Expo. Every student in the school had

a framed art work on display. How wonderful it was to see so many families in attendance

celebrating the abilities of our students. Thank you to all staff who helped with the BBQ at the Art

Expo. Art works will also be on display and for sale at the end of year assembly on December 13.

Congratulations to students who received their well-earned gold awards during the afternoon

presentation. Years 6, 10, 11,12 students received special certificates.

KidzWish The annual KidzWish Christmas party was held on Thursday, 21st November at the WIN

Entertainment Centre. Jacinta, Rachel and Lucy took a group of 10 students to experience the fun.

We saw lots of our Peterborough peers enjoying the lights, music, singing and dancing. It was

wonderful to see the look of awe on student’s faces with the highlight of the show being Santa’s

arrival to sing some Christmas carols with us all. It was a fantastic day!

Probus choir Thank you to the Kiama Probus Choir who recently

sang at our school assembly. Most students really

enjoyed the sounds of this live choir performing. We

listened to Christmas songs, some old songs and some

songs we knew. Thank you to the choir who come to

visit Peterborough every year.

.

HS7 sleepover HS7 had a big day in last week. The class had a

school sleepover which was enjoyed by all who

attended. Tim, Mechelle and the students enjoyed

bowling after school and pizza for dinner. After a BBQ

breakfast, HS7 enjoyed a day at Stuart Park on

community access.

Meeting our staff

Featured teacher Our featured teacher this month is Amy Campbell.

“I have been a classroom teacher at Peterborough for the past two years. This year I am working with

Issy in the Pelican’s classroom with our six students. It has been a privilege to watch them learn and

grow over the past twelve months. I am also the primary sports co-ordinator.

I feel very fortunate to be part of the amazing Peterborough team and to spend my days working with

our wonderful students. Outside of school I enjoy travel, sport and spending time with my family.’

Featured learning support officer (SLSO) Our featured SLSO for this month is Michelle.

”I’ve been an SLSO at Peterborough school for six years. Last term I was thrilled to be appointed in a

permanent position. This year I am working with the lovely Koalas and Echidnas. I love the uniqueness

of Peterborough School and all of the special events we have each year for the students. I look forward

to my future as part of the Peterborough family.”

Discovery space big day out Our annual primary family fun day was held on Monday 25th November. Students from the Joeys,

Possums, Pelicans, Turtles, Koalas and Echidnas attended the excursion along with several parents,

carers and siblings! It was fantastic to see all students engaging in play, exploring, communicating

and most of all having fun with all of the wonderful attractions offered by the Discovery Space. The

highlights this year were the Market Place, Sensory Garden, Construction Corner and the brand new

Emergency Services display. We were extremely proud of the behaviour of all students in

representing our school in the community. Go team Primary!

Thank you to Jacinta for her fabulous organisation of this big day 😊
