Peter is responsible for the management of Health and Safety within section 2 of the project from Newhouse to North Calder water. This includes the construction of Seven major bridge structures including a structure over a Network Rail main line asset. Major service diversions, including High Pressure gas mains, ITS, Scottish Power HV transmission and distribution cables, Fibre optic and Scottish water mains. The construction of large stretches of the M8 re-alignment, major bulk earthworks and re–surfacing, including major deep drainage alterations and new construction. Sub–contractor management and training as regards Health and safety standards within the project. Chair of section Health and Safety meetings actively promoting best practice throughout the section. Risk assessment and Method statement review, Lift plan review and Project Policy review and formulation. Peter has been involved in the safety planning and inspection of major lifting operations at night under traffic management. Coordinating trades to achieve completion in a safe manner and on time. This is often under tight time constraints in order to minimise costs in terms of down time on the project. Peter has been responsible for overseeing all contract lifting operations and ensuring compliance with the JV procedures and current legislation.Peter has worked closely with Network Rail in implementing works package plans for stuctures across the Rail Network and planning for Basic Assett Protection of the electrified network.

Peter is a temporary works coordinator and has been involved with the checking of temporary works designs along with senior management and highlighting and reducing all residual design risks.Peter has also been involved in the demolition of existing bridges within lane closures ensuring the safety of the public and of contractors within the site boundary, liaising with Local authorities, Police, fire, ambulance, to ensure the highest safety standards are maintained.Peter has also been responsible for plant management and safety training within the project.Peter has also carried out a number of training programmes such as behavioural safety initiatives, buried services training, plant safety awarenes, CAT and GENNY training and working at height safety training.Peter also liaiseds closely with the Utilities department to ensure compliance with Gas, Electricity and Communications regulations.

Peter is responsible for the Risk assessment formulation and Method statements for FLJV works within the project and also review of Sub –contractor RAMS.Peter is also responsible for Accident investigation, RAMS review, Safety Alerts, Tool Box Talks and Incident review and presentation to senior management with a view to zero accidents. Peter is also responsible for liaison with the Local enforcing Authority to ensure compliance with HSE guidelines.

Design and construction of a new section of the M8 motorway between Baillieston and Newhouse, an improved M74 Junction 5 (Raith) and widening of existing carriageways of lengths of the M8, M73 and M74. Major structures and Rail bridges improvements. £550m project over three years a JV project with Ferrovial Lagan. Working as part of a team of four safety advisors within the JV project.Reporting to the Regional Director for Lagan Construction, and the Project managers within the JV.

Health and Safety Manager

Suffolk EFW Project

January 2012 – May 2014 (2 years 5 months) Suffolk Energy from Waste facility

Reporting to the regional Director, responsible for HS&E management of a £250m Joint venture partnership project with CNIM for Sita UK and Suffolk County Council to build an Energy from waste facility (Power station). Temporary works co-ordinator, appointed person (Cranes) and Plant manager also for the project.

Lagan Construction Group win Civil Engineering Project of the Year

Lagan Construction Group has won a major UK construction industry award scooping Civil Engineering Project of the Year (£10m to £50m) at the British Construction Industry Awards 2015 with Suffolk Energy

from Waste project. The award recognises civil engineering projects valued at between £10m and £50m.The project Suffolk Energy from Waste, has been built as part of Suez Environment’s (formerly SITA UK) 25-year, £1bn private finance initiative (PFI) waste management contract with Suffolk County Council. Lagan Construction Group acted as principal contractors on the project with works valued at £40M.

The £180M state of the art facility is designed to meet exceptionally high standards in operation the building, with the ability to process 269,000 tonnes of waste per year and provide 30MW of electricity enough to power 30,000 households. The building also provides community facilities to enhance education and understanding of the role of waste management. Considerate specification in design, and effective integration into the landscape, has allowed the building to achieve a BREEAM “excellent” rating, making it one of the greenest industrial buildings in the countrySuffolk Energy from Waste, caught the eye of judges for its “elegant solution to what is traditionally a very messy operation”.
