NewsGirona airport goes East with direct flights to Moscow, Belgrade, Warsaw, Gdansk and KatowiceThe Girona-Costa Brava Airport increases its destinations in the summer season while Ryanair has drastically reduced its fl ights from it because of a dispute with the Catalan Government. Three Eastern European airlines have announced in the last few days their new fl ights to and from Girona’s airport. With their arrival and opening of new routes, Girona off ers 60 destinations per week to Europe and North Africa. Lluís Sala, the airport’s director, explained that “the airport’s characteristics, which allow airlines quick and simple operations, combined with the Costa Brava’s attractiveness and the accomplished tax reduction make it more attractive for companies”. In addition, Sala does not discard the imminent arrival of other new companies, with which they are currently negotiating. Transaero Airlines will link the Catalan city, next to the Costa Brava beaches, with Moscow’s Domodeodovo Airport once a week. It will be Girona’s fi rst regular connection with Russia. The Serbian JAT Airways will fl y to Girona from Belgrade several times per week during the summer months. Enter Air, from Poland, will link Warsaw, Gdansk and Katowice with Girona’s airport three times per week. It already began operating a weekly fl ight with Warsaw on Saturdays. From June onwards, it will also have a weekly connection with Gdansk and Katowice, also on Saturdays. Finally, the Catalan airline Spanair said it is ready to recuperate its daily fl ight between Girona and Madrid in the autumn if no other airline does it. This fl ight had already been operated by Spanair but when Ryanair began the same route, Spanair cancelled it. Now the Irish low cost carrier also cancelled other routes, following its plan to reduce its presence in Girona because of an argument with the Catalan Government regarding subsidies. To sum up, Ryanair has argued that the new Catalan Government does not want to honour the agreement they reached last autumn by which Ryanair would see the money already off ered by the Catalan Government increase. This agreement was to start in 2011 and it foresaw public assistance to Ryanair in exchange for bringing a minimum number of tourists
per year. Previous economic agreements have already been in place between the airline and the Catalan public administration regarding Girona but also with Reus Airport, through which the airline already received millions in subsidies. However, last autumn Ryanair started to operate from Barcelona’s main airport with great success, and the passenger fi gures in Girona were reduced. Coincidentally, problems started, as Ryanair did not want to continue having such a large presence in Girona. The Catalan Government asked Ryanair to delay the implementation of the new agreement by some months, including the fi rst payments, and continue working with the agreement already in place, which runs until the end of the year. They also asked the airline to honour the commitment regarding the number of passengers in Girona and if they were not able to do so to re-negotiate the new agreement. The low cost’s managers reacted in a strong and drastic way: they reduced the routes and frequencies from Girona, and threatened to abandon the airport permanently. The Catalan Government asked for calm and to talk about the issue, but the Irish company refuses and demands the immediate implementation of the new agreement and to receive the money associated. Negotiations are still ongoing. Meanwhile, new companies arrive in Girona.
A weekly connection with MoscowTransaero Airlines’ fl ight between Moscow and Girona will be on Friday and will only run
during the summer for the moment. It will be operated with a medium-sized airplane for 101 passengers. Flights will start on June 3rd and will last until September 30th. “The new connection with Moscow is very important news for Girona as the Russian market is a very interesting one for the territory”, explained Lluís Sala, the airport’s director.
Three weekly fl ights with PolandWarsaw and Girona will be linked by Enter Air each Saturday, from April to October 1st. From June onwards, it will also have a weekly connection with Gdansk and Katowice, also on Saturdays.
A minimum of two weekly fl ight with BelgradeThe Serbian JAT Airways already fl ies from Belgrade to Girona, from April 23rd last to October 29th. The route will be operated with a Boeing 737-300 on Saturday. In addition, from June 14th to October 25th, each Tuesday another fl ight will be added as well as on specifi c Thursdays and Sundays during the summer season. Serbian Tour operators have already booked 100 seats in each fl ight to bring tourists to the Costa Brava. Actually the positive welcoming of this route make managers not discard the option of operating it throughout the entire year. This airline connection will be the fi rst one between Serbia and Girona’s coast, which is “well-known and appreciated by Serbs”, stated Vladimir Ognjenovic, the airline’s Chairman.
Immigrants bring more than they get out of the Welfare State, concludes a study
Foreigners bring more than they get, not only economically but also in terms of services. That is the main conclusion of the Immigration Social Study, funded by the Catalan savings bank ‘la Caixa’ through its social work foundation. The study revealed that the impact of immigration in the Spanish Welfare State is clearly positive. 50% of the public budget’s surplus during the years of greatest growth corresponded to taxes and social contributions brought by immigrants. However, they have been the section of society most hit by the economic crisis (together with the young population). Currently they suff er from an unemployment rate of 30%. Javier Moreno, the coordinator of the study, explained that the public perception that immigrants are getting all the benefi ts from the welfare state while not contributing enough revenue is completely false. In addition, he denounced politicians and public administrations for not having suffi ciently adapted public services and social aids for the population increase due to the immigration. This lack of prevision during the wealthy years brought the saturation of some welfare state services, and many citizens blame immigration in an unfair and many times xenophobic way.
Less than 1% of pension benefi ciaries are foreigners and actually immigration will contribute to delay by fi ve years the arrival of the pension system’s defi cit. In addition, revenues coming from immigration are the main engine behind the functioning of the social protection system. Those are some of the conclusions of the study, which completely destroys the stereotype that immigrants are excessively profi ting from the European welfare state, a stereotype fed by populist politicians that has provoked an increase in xenophobia across Europe. Javier Moreno said during the study’s presentation that his team “has reached the conclusion that impact of immigration on the Welfare State is clearly positive”. “It has been positive during the wealthy years and it is still so during the economic crisis” he added. Moreno thinks that this is due to the immigration’s youth and its motivation to work.
The crisis has hit the immigrant population more severely. 30% of the immigrant population is poor, for 18% of the people born in Spain. However, despite being the most vulnerable sector, immigrants only use 6.8% of social service interventions, which are mainly used by Spanish-nationals.

52 people arrested in biggest operation against copper theft The police have arrested 52 people in Barcelona in their biggest ever operation against organised copper theft.
Before being disbanded, the gang was allegedly stealing, dealing, melting and selling the metal and are believed to be responsible for massive copper thefts at numerous electrical companies and along the Fecsa-Endesa network.
The police operation, which involved more than 180 agents from the autuonomous force - the Mossos d’Esquadra - was centred on the intersection of the Calle Agricultura and Calle Cristóbal de Moura in the Sant Martí district of the city, where a dozen properties have been searched and 52 arrests have been made.
The operation, which began over a year ago and cumlminated with offi cers being deployed at 5.30 this morning, is still ongoing, with police hoping to locate and arrest another 30 members of the gang, operating primarily in Barcelona, Girona and Lleida.
As well as the arrests, a dozen vehicles, mostly vans, which were loaded with copper and parked nearby, have also been impounded. Another 30 vehicles belonging to the network of thieves are expected to be impounded. The operation, run by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Catalan police, also deployed a helicopter to prevent tipped off gang members escaping.

Nuclear plant leak in Ascó A LEAK of 25,000 litres of radioactive water forced security staff to evacuated the nuclear plant at Ascó (Tarragona) on 30 April.
Workers’ footwear became soaked by the water, leading to widespread alarm that they may have been aff ected by nuclear radiation.An examination of the 14 staff members whose shoes got wet has not so far produced any signs of internal damage.The Nuclear Safety Council said that while calibrating one of the four semi-automatic re-circulation channels, one of the motorised isolation valves on the sump opened
accidentally.They say they will arrange a full inspection to ascertain the causes, but stress that there has been no impact on the environment or the people living nearby.
Following the incident, Ecologists in Action have called for the nuclear plant in Ascó to be closed for good, since they believe
there is an inherent risk to workers and to the population as a whole.According to the pressure group, there are three types of highly-toxic radioactive substances held at the plant which could potentially leak – and which are the same substances that escaped from the plant in Fukushima.

NewsBarcelona City Council bans nudity and semi-nudity on the streetsBarcelona City Council has taken action to end the summertime image of people walking on Barcelona’s main streets with their naked torso, wearing only swim suits or even going completely nude. The new ban on nudity and semi-nudity however makes a clear exception: Barcelona’s beaches and the surrounding areas are completely excluded. Therefore, people will be allowed to go shirtless or only wear swim suits around beach areas, such as the maritime walkway, but they will be banned of doing so in the rest of the city, such as in the famous Les Rambles or the Passeig de Gràcia boulevard.
Complete nudity will be banned everywhere, except in a very concrete zone within one beach.
Local police will not fine people directly: firstly they will inform the person that its behaviour is not allowed and the person
will be requested to put some clothes on. If the person decides not to do so or is caught again for the same transgression, local police are entitled to fine the person with a quantity ranging from 120 euros to 500 euros. The measure has been approved just before the municipal elections with the votes of the two main parties.
Exports will drive Catalan economy to 0.9% growth in 2011Catalonia’s GDP will increase by 0.9% over 2011, according to data released by the Catalan Ministry of Economy and Knowledge. In 2010, the Catalan economy only grew 0.1% but broke the 4.2% contraction in 2009. Growth is dependent on exports, which are set to increase by 6.2% over this year. The President of the Catalan Government Artur Mas sees the outlook as “a change of trend” that will help the economy “take off”. However, the Catalan President, who was Catalan Minister for Economy ten years ago, explained that this growth “will not be enough” for employment creation. In this sense, the economic forecast predicts an unemployment rate of 18% at the end of 2011, two tenths higher than 2010.
The Catalan Government’s macroeconomic outlook foresees a stabilisation of internal consumption. Therefore it will not be one of the economic recovery’s engines. Despite the 1.1% increase in family consumption in 2011, it will not be enough to compensate for the 1.3% drop in public administration expenditures. The latter increased by 0.2% in 2010.
Private company investments increase compared to last year’s levels, but they continue to be on the negative side. The Catalan Government’s analysis states that corporate investments will decrease by 2% in 2011. The drop is mainly due to the construction sector, which will continue its contraction with an investment rate of -6.1%. Even the predicted 2.1% increase in industrial sector investments will not make up for the building industry’s contraction.
The true engine of Catalonia’s economic recovery lies in exports, which will grow by 6.2% in 2011.
Unemployment grows
Despite some good indicators, most are still quite weak, with a positive trend only starting to show now. This means that employment will still not recover. The end of 2011 will see 6,300 less jobs compared to those at the end of 2010, at an unemployment rate of 18% compared to 17.8% in 2010. It is not all bad news however. At least, 2011 will end with an
unemployment rate that is lower than the current figure for the end of March, at 19.1%.
Is the air pollution affecting children’s performance at school?
Leaded fuel was discovered to be negatively affecting children taking intelligence tests. Test scores were 6 points lower for children exposed to this kind of fuel, which was banned in the EU in 2001. Scientific research confirmed that leaded fuel is not only damaging for the environment, but also has harmful effects for human lungs and brains. The co-director of the Centre for Environmental Epidemiology Research of Catalonia (CREAL), Jordi Sunyer, is leading a new study that will explore the impact of pollution on academic performance. Up to 4.000 children from 40 different schools will take part in the investigation. “Small-particle pollution in the air might affect brain nerve connections,” said Sunyer in an interview with the CNA. His theory has already been tested on animals, but no research on human beings has been developed yet. This is why the study the CREAL study has received an Advanced Grand worth three million euros from the European Union.
“A child brain is an organ in development and is vulnerable,” explained Sunyer, who added that this is the reason why children can be more affected by pollution. The scientist said that small-particle pollution
caused by diesel engines in vehicles is especially harmful.
The aim of Sunyer’s research is to design a pollution-map of the schools and areas that students cross to get from home to class. The map will show children’s exposure to pollution, and how it differs amongst schools. “We know that in Barcelona some schools are 10 times more exposed to pollution than others,” said Sunyer, who is working on the hypothesis that pollution affects children’s learning process. He aims to demonstrate that “the higher the pollution, the poorer the academic performance”. If such a statement is discovered to be true, it would mean a huge step forward in understanding learning processes as well as conduct disorders and brain diseases.
To carry out the research, scientists will use: a GPS system; equipment for measuring energy used by children; and a device calculating air pollution in a specific location. All the data will be then used to develop tests with voluntary kids. “The conclusions will help to introduce changes at the most polluted schools and the health advantages will be perceived more quickly”, argued Sunyer.

NewsHow to vote in the Spanish Municipal ElectionsWIT H only 10 days to go until the local elections, the Spanish Voting system remains a mystery to many foreign residents. On Sunday 22 May, elections for both local councils will take place all over Spain. There are 8,112 municipalities involved in the process. As a non-Spanish voter, you are entitled to vote for those who will represent you in your local town hall, provided that you are registered on the municipal census (padrón) and on the voting register.
On May 22, local schools and certain municipal premises will be converted into polling stations and will be open to voters from 9am through to 8pm.
Each political party presents a list of their candidates. The list will include the same number of candidates as there are seats on the local council, with three ‘spares’. The voting slip for municipal elections is the WHIT E voting slip. This slip is the only one that a non-Spanish voter is entitled to use.
The pink coloured slips are for the regional elections in which only Spanish nationals
can vote. Generally, the first name on the municipal (WHIT E) list will become Mayor of the town should that particular political party win the most seats.
You will need to take with you a recognised official form of photographic identity, for example a passport, driving licence, residents’ or national identity card. For residents that now have the A4 Residents form and have surrendered their old residents card, this is without any photo ID and so you will need to bring your passport with you to the voting station
Once in the polling station you will find a table on which you will find piles of voting slips, one for each political party.
Ensure you only pick up the voting slip for the party you wish to vote for. Study the slip to ensure it is the correct party. Probably, you will already have decided and will recognise the name, initial, and ‘logo’.
Do not mark the voting slip in any way at all. The placing of a cross or any other mark on the paper will result in your vote becoming VOID!
Place the unmarked, slip in the white envelope provided. You will find a pile of envelopes next to the voting slips.
Report to the voting desk and produce your identity document – your name will be checked to ensure that it is included in the voters register for that particular polling station.
When you are told to do so, PLACE T HE ENVELOPE containing your UNMARKED voting slip, into the transparent urn on the presidential table.
You have now cast your vote. Simple as that.
In essence, take your ID with you to the Polling Sation, pick up the White form for the party you wish to vote for, place in the white envelope and drop it in the box. Don’t write anything on the voting form. Done and dusted.
Cava: the sparkling success of Spanish bubbly Creating cava usually involves similar methods to those of making either classic or traditional champagne, but we should not confuse champagne with cava. Champagne is made only in France, in the region of the same name while cava’s bubbles are fizzing away in various parts of Spain.Like many mechanisms distantly linked to our conscience an endless number of bubbles spin round and round as we speak inside a multitude of cava bottles. They have spent a very long time – at least a long time in the life of a tiny bubble – bouncing around in a bottle.These tiny balls of air are the result of a second fermentation process that takes place inside the bottle – it is then and only then that the wine can legally be given the name cava. Otherwise, it can only be classified as sparkling wine, thus failing to obtain the prestigious label.During the second fermentation process in the bottle, a type of liqueur known as licor de tiraje is added (made from sugar, yeast and cava) which causes the bubbles by producing carbonic gas. Le Cap de Creus libéré du Club Med se révèle au public• Le secteur du Cap de Creus occupé pendant 42 ans par le Club Méditerranée a
retrouvé son aspect originel à la fi n de l’année dernière. Pour la première fois depuis 50 ans, son accès a été rendu possible à l’occasion des fêtes de Pâques. Le site a retrouvé sa beauté sauvage.
A l’occasion de la Semaine Sainte, le site de Tudela, situé à proximité du Cap de Creus, sur le territoire communal de Cadaqués, a été rouvert par le gouvernement catalan. Cette zone de toute beauté, qui fait partie du Parc Naturel du Cap de Creus depuis 1998, a été occupée de 1962 à 2004 par plus de 400 bungalows du Club Méditerranée. En 2009, l’État espagnol a racheté cet ensemble, et la Generalitat de Catalogne, dans une politique de réparation des abus touristiques encouragés par le régime franquiste, s’est employée à lui rendre son aspect antérieur.
L’étape de destruction des bâtiments du Club Med, et le conditionnement des lieux sont achevées depuis novembre dernier, mais le public ne pouvait toujours pas y accéder, leur ouverture étant jugée trop onéreuse, dans le contexte de la crise. Cependant, cet espace a été rendu visible jusqu’à ce lundi de Pâques, grâce à la présence de deux guides. Les visiteurs ont parcouru les quelques centaines de mètres qui séparent le «Mirador d’es Camell» à la crique «Tulip», et rencontré sur leur chemin quatre autres belvédères
naturels et deux autres criques. Le tout est présenté dans un cadre unique, où affleurent roches métamorphiques et granitiques, parmi lesquelles se trouvent de remarquables pegmatites.
Bien que le gouvernement catalan n’ait pas encore programmé les prochaines ouvertures au public, cette première action promet d’être renouvelée lors de la période estivale. Il sera possible à cette occasion de présenter davantage les atours de cet espace, reconnu comme l’un des gisements géologiques les plus appréciables de Catalogne. Au-delà de cette réouverture, chargée d’émotion pour les plus anciens, la commune de Cadaqués, rendue mondialement célèbre par les séjours de Salvador Dalí, participe d’une certaine reconquête des paysages de la Costa Brava, littéralement saccagés depuis une cinquantaine d’années. A ce titre, le projet lancé en Chine de réaliser une réplique parfaite de Cadaqués, aussi étrange qu’il puisse paraître, démontre l’image d’un idéal méditerranée représenté par le ville. Un idéal sur lequel le Club Méditerranée a misé pendant 42 ans.

Législatives 2012: les Français d’Espagne pourront voter Eric Besson• A l’occasion des élections législatives de 2012, les 8000 Français établis à l’année
dans la province de Girona, en Catalogne du Sud et en Espagne, auront la possibilité de voter pour un candidat UMP controversé. L’ancien socialiste Eric Besson, qui postule sur la “5e circonscription”, a été désigné par le parti.

En 2012, les 8000 citoyens français établis à l’année dans la province de Girona pourront participer, comme à l’accoutumée, aux élections législatives françaises. Parmi les 577 sièges à pourvoir à l’Assemblée Nationale, il en est un qui est réservé à la représentation d’une très vaste circonscription étrangère, qui comprend l’Espagne, l’Andorre, le Portugal et Monaco. Si l’ensemble des candidats en lice sur cet espace consacré aux expatriés n’est pas encore connu, l’UMP a déjà désigné le sien. Bien étrangement, il s’agit du transfuge socialiste Eric Besson, secrétaire adjoint du parti de Nicolas Sarkozy. Né à Marrakech et populairement connu comme le concepteur d’une vision radicale de l’intégration, M. Besson a occupé le poste de Ministre de l’Immigration, de l’Intégration, de l’Identité nationale et du Développement solidaire du gouvernement François Fillon II, de janvier 2009 à novembre 2010. Sa présence sur la “5e circonscription”, selon le classement établi, est officielle depuis la mi-avril.
La tentative d’expulsion des Gitans étrangers de France, désignés par le nom de “Roms”, constitue à ce jour le chantier le plus visible confié à M. Besson, actuellement ministre chargé de l’Industrie, de l’Énergie et de l’Économie numérique. On ne manquera pas de relever que le ministre, anciennement
missionné pour inventer une nouvelle formule de considération et de gestion de l’immigration en France, est choisi pour représenter les Français présents dans quatre États voisins de la France, où ils constituent logiquement des groupes immigrés. Les Français de la région de Girona, essentiellement installés en bord de mer, notamment dans la ville de Roses et ses alentours, disposeront ainsi d’une offre politique bien singulière. Lors de l’élection présidentielle de 2007, Nicolas Sarkozy a réalisé un score de 54% sur cette 5e circonscription, tandis que Ségolène Royal, présentée par le Parti Socialiste, a obtenu 46%.

Loi anti-tabac: l’Espagne autorise les pipes à eau dans les bars• Chaque État européen adapte à sa manière le cadre législatif général relatif à la
consommation de tabac dans les lieux publics. En territoire espagnol, les cafetiers et restaurateurs pourront désormais avoir recours à la pipe à eau afi n de laisser leurs clients fumer à l’intérieur.
Depuis la mise en pratique de la loi anti-tabac en territoire espagnol, le 2 janvier, la consommation de cigarettes est interdite dans les lieux publics, les bars, discothèques et autres lieux de divertissement. Cependant, pour répondre aux demandes multiples d’associations de commerçants de nombreuses régions d’Espagne, le ministère espagnol de la Santé a autorisé la consommation de tabac dans certains lieux publics, sous certaines conditions. Concrètement, l’usage de pipes à eau sera possible à l’intérieur des bars et autres établissements. Cette solution, inspirée par la méthode orientale des «bangh» ou des «narguilés», ordinairement utilisés pour la consommation de cannabis, de permettre aux cafés de maintenant leur fréquentation de clientèle. Ce dispositif légal permettra également d’éviter les rassemblements de fumeurs à l’extérieur des établissements, qui ont tendance à déranger le voisinage, dans certains quartiers du centre de Barcelone et de Girona, tout comme à l’identique de Perpignan.
Pour le secrétaire général de la Fédération catalane des associations d’activités récréatives musicales, Joaquim Boada, ce choix est un réel progrès, car «le problème du bruit dans la rue est devenue le pire ennemi du secteur économique
des loisirs nocturnes». Cette future introduction des pipes à eau dans les lieux récréatifs permettra, selon M. Boada, une «adaptation» à la loi anti-tabac en Catalogne du Sud.
Hausse après hausse, le prix du tabac en territoire français favorise le déplacement des fumeurs frontaliers vers les territoires voisins, pour leurs achats de cigarettes.

L’homosexualité s’affiche en politique en Catalogne du Sud• Le mairie de Figueres, Santi Vila, se représente sous la bannière de la normalité
Les récents changements sociétaux espagnols surprennent, à l’approche de l’élection présidentielle française de 2012. Alors que le programme politique présenté en 2004 par le Parti Socialiste Ouvrier Espagnol (PSOE) de José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, élu en 2005, comportait l’engagement, appliqué par loi en juillet 2005, de “rendre possible le mariage entre personnes du même sexe et l’exercice de tous les droits qu’il comporte”, le PS français préfère édulcorer la question. Le pré-programme du parti de Martine Aubry fait référence à l’homoparentalité, mais élude encore le contrat matrimonial, à l’inverse de la réalité du Portugal, qui, en mai 2010, a légalisé le mariage, tout en proscrivant l’adoption. En Catalogne du Sud, un précédent a été créé au printemps 2010, lorsque le député-mairie de Figueres, Santi Vila, candidat aux élections générales catalanes qui ont donné lieu, en novembre, à la victoire de son parti, Convergence et Union (CiU), a préféré évoquer
personnellement son homosexualité plutôt qu’abandonner cet aspect insignifiant aux plumes mal intentionnées.
Il déclarait, dans une interview accordée à l’agence de presse EFE, que la province de Girona reste ”discriminée” par le gouvernement catalan, à majorité CiU, dirigé par le président Artur depuis décembre 2010. Selon lui, le centralisme barcelonais de l’ancien gouvernement, à majorité socialiste, ne fait que persister avec les “siens”. Ce type de prises de prise de position
est rare dans les Pyrénées-Orientales, où la discipline des partis impose généralement la mise en sourdine des problématiques territoriales, au profit de la globalité. Le principal dossier qui résume ce schéma est le projet “Septimanie” de Georges Frêche, qui a donné lieu, en 2005, à une importante mobilisation citoyenne à Perpignan. Nombreux à se déclarer, dans l’intimité, révulsés par ce projet, les socialistes catalans n’ont pas communiqué leur sentiment à l’autorité de Montpellier.
Le port de Palamós attend 40.000 croisiéristes en 2011• En 2010, le port de Barcelone a occupé la première place européenne en matière
de croisières, tandis que la Costa Brava s’affi rmait sur ce segment économique de plus en plus porteur. Cette année, le port de Palamós accueillera 40 escales, tandis que le port de Port-Vendres, qui se défend bien, en prévoit 17.
Le samedi 9 avril a marqué le début de la saison des croisières maritimes sur tout le littoral catalan. En 2010, avec plus de 2 millions de passagers, le port de Barcelone était, exception faite de la zone des Caraïbes, le premier port mondial. Désormais, des géants des mers, tel le Liberty of the Seas, long de 338 mètres et
transportant plus de 4000 croisiéristes, viendront en Méditerranée, où le marché est en plein essor. Cette première place comme port d’attache est liée aux investissements réalisés pour l’accueil de ces navires, mais d’autres villes plus au Sud, dont València, redoublent également d’efforts. Au-delà de cette compétition existe une saine émulation, représentée par des ports plus modestes, qui se battent à leur tour pour décrocher le maximum d’escales.Sur la Costa Brava, le port de Roses semble faire les frais de cette concurrence, en n’accueillant strictement aucune escale en 2011, mais avec une prévision de deux escales pour 2012. En Roussillon, le port de Port-Vendres reste dans la course, avec 17 escales prévues entre avril et octobre 2011. Ce succès reste relatif, car 16 de ses escales sont réalisées par la même compagnie, et passent également par Palamós. Ce dernier port, principal bénéficiaire, annonce 40 escales réparties d’avril à décembre. Cet étalement est très apprécié, car 90% des voyageurs mettent pied à terre lors des ces étapes, et dépensent en moyenne 70 euros dans la ville.

Quincy Jones, Montserrat Caballé et Roberto Alagna, au festival Castell de Peralada• La 25e édition du festival musical
Castell de Peralada, aura cette année pour stars principales la cantatrice Montserrat Caballé, âgée de 78 ans, et Quincy Jones, mythique producteur de Michael Jackson. Une exposition sur les 24 dernières années de festival sera visible à Figueres, Girona, Perpignan, et Bruxelles.
Les organisateurs du prestigieux festival du Château de Peralada, situé entre Figueres et Roses, ont présenté ce jeudi à Barcelone la programmation de la prochaine édition, programmé du 15 juillet au 15 août. Ce rendez-vous disposera d’une couleur musicale largement penchée sur les voix, dans toute leur diversité, à travers l’opéra et le répertoire lyrique, est comportera aussi plusieurs spectacles de danse. Le chanteur Joan Manuel Serrat ouvrira cette 25ème édition, qui terminera par une prestation de la compagnie théâtrale Comediants, deux grands symboles de la culture catalane découverts par un large public à l’occasion de la libération sociale provoquée par la fin du régime franquiste.
Les principales stars à résonance mondiale du festival seront la diva Montserrat Caballé et les deux ténors Roberto Alagna et Plácido Domingo, à écouter respectivement les 17 juillet, 22 juillet et 1er août. La direction du festival, dans une anticipation certaine d’une affluence de public vers la plus grande cantatrice catalane de tous les temps, âgée de 78 ans, a programmé pour elle deux concerts le même jour, chacun en compagnie du chanteur italien Al Bano et de l’Orchestre National et Classique d’Andorre. Une autre célèbre personnalité présente sera Quincy Jones, coproducteur du plus grand album de Michael Jackson, «Thriller», sorti en 1982. Le concert de ce maître du jazz, prévu le 22 juillet, signalera la qualité d’un festival qui surmonte la crise, en s’offrant un budget de 4 millions d’euros. Les billets seront en vente à partir du 16 mai, et une exposition itinérante, qui raconte les 24 ans d’histoire de ce carrefour artistique international, sera visible à Figueres, Girona, Perpignan, et Bruxelles.
Les jours sont comptés pour la prostitution routière autour de Figueres• La présence endémique de dames de charme au bord des routes de la province
de Girona ne devrait pas durer, selon un dispositif policier mis en place prochainement. Le Nord et le Sud de la province affi chent le record de Catalogne en cette matière peu valorisante.
Le phénomène de la prostitution routière, particulièrement visible depuis plusieurs années dans la région de Figueres, n’est pas une spécialité sud-catalane. Également présent en France, notamment sur la Route Nationale 9 aux abords de Narbonne, il s’est développé en conséquence de la crise. En Catalogne du Sud, deux prises de position ont étayé le débat sur l’encadrement des activités de sexe à péage. Au niveau territorial, Consol Cantenys, présidente du «Conseil comarcal» de l’Alt Empordà, équivalent à grands traits d’une communauté de communes française, pour la région de Figueres, s’est jointe à un homologue. Avec ce dernier, Jordi Gironès, président du «Consell» de la région de la Selva, dont fait partie le périmètre aéroportuaire de Girona, l’élue a manifesté le souhait que l’abolition de la prostitution de bord
de route ne se limite pas être «titre dans les journaux». Cette déclaration a suivi la volonté affichée du gouvernement catalan de mettre en place un dispositif d’éradication de cette forme de racolage, exposée à la vue de tous, avec toutes les gênes que cela comporte. Quelques heures auparavant, le ministre-conseiller de l’Intérieur de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Felip Puig, avait en effet souhaité, dans une intervention au Parlement de Catalogne, que la police catalane, les Mossos d’Esquadra, sanctionne autant les prostituées proposant leurs charmes à l’air libre, en ville comme à la campagne, que leurs clients. Dans l’actualité, les régions de l’Alt Empordà et de La Selva atteignent le record catalan en matière de densité de prostituées de bord de route au km2.

Er bestaat wel verdeling in het gemeentebestuur over deze norm. Zo vinden tegenstanders het feit dat het openbaar bestuur zich met de kleding van de burgers gaat bemoeien te ver gaan. De norm bepaalt wel dat iemand eerst een waarschuwing moet krijgen, alvorens een boete opgelegd te krijgen.

Vliegveld Girona nog slechts verbonden met een Spaanse stad deze zomer
Het vliegveld van Girona heeft te lijden, met name door het uitvallen van diverse vluchten van de Ierse low cost vliegmaatschappij Ryanair. De enige binnenlandse vlucht die deze zomer van en naar het vliegveld van de Costa Brava zal gaan is die naar Palma de Mallorca nadat ook de vluchten naar Madrid worden geannuleerd. Sinds 27 maart is de zomer dienstregeling ingegaan waarbij opgemerkt kan worden dat Ryanair van 62 naar 46 vluchten is teruggegaan en waarbij de frequenties van vluchten met 48% bijna is gehalveerd.
Het uitvallen van de binnenlandse vlucht van Girona naar Madrid, een van de populairste vluchten op het vliegveld, is een grote klap voor het vliegveld. Dit volgt op de aankondiging van Ryanair dat zij 18 routes annuleren van en naar het vliegveld van de Costa Brava, iets waar wij al eerder melding van maakten. De hoofdreden voor het uitvallen van de vluchten en het halveren van de vliegfrequenties, zijn de stroeve onderhandelingen met de Generalitat de Catalunya die geen geld meer wil geven aan de Ierse low cost vliegmaatschappij.
Daar waar Ryanair gedurende 2010 nog 62 routes aanbood wordt dat nu 46 en daar waar vorig jaar 748 frequenties plaatsvonden worden er dat nu 388, 48% minder dan in 2010. Volgens de directeur van het vliegveld is het uitvallen van de vele Ryanair vluchten een grote klap voor zowel het toerisme alsook de zaken sector. Het vliegveld denkt 2011 af te kunnen sluiten met 3 miljoen passagiers, dat zal bijna 2 miljoen minder zijn dan in 2010. In 2009 had het vliegveld van Girona nog 5.287.970 passagiers, een aantal wat in
2010 daalde naar 4.863.846 passagiers en wat dus in 2011 waarschijnlijk verder zal afnemen naar zo’n 3 miljoen passagiers.
Buiten het feit dat de dagelijkse vluchten naar Madrid zijn uitgevallen, een van de drukste routes op het vliegveld van Girona, wordt er ook 40% minder gevlogen naar Italië, 25% minder naar Groot Brittannië en 50% minder naar Duitsland.
Zomer 2011
Deze zomer (van 27 maart tot 30 oktober) zal het vliegveld van Girona en de Costa Brava 54 bestemmingen aanbieden met 444 vluchten per week en 8 nieuwe bestemmingen ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Alle nieuwe routes worden overigens wel aangeboden door Ryanair en verbinden Girona met de Zweedse steden Karlstad en Skelleftea, met Lamezia in Italië. Magdenburg-Cochstad in Duitsland, Rzeszow in Polen, Vilnius in Litouwen, Larnaca op Cyprus en Tallinn in Estonia.
Nieuw dit jaar zal de vlucht van Air Europa naar Nador in Marokko zijn en ook de vlucht van Brussels Airlines naar het vliegveld van Brussel. Transavia, op dit moment de tweede grote maatschappij op het vliegveld van Girona met wekelijkse vluchten naar Amsterdam en Rotterdam, zal tevens een nieuwe route aanvliegen naar Niederrhein in Duitsland.
De horecasector wil nu dat de Generalitat de financiële hulp aan Ryanair blijft voortzetten om zo het conflict op te lossen. Het probleem is echter dat als de Generalitat dat gaat doen zij dus toegeven aan de eisen van Ryanair en of zij daartoe bereidt zijn is nog maar de vraag.
Spanje populairste pensioenlandNederlanders willen na hun pensionering gewoon in eigen land blijven wonen, de veelgehoorde dromen over een huisje onder de Spaanse zon of Italië ten spijt. Bijna tweederde (61%) is niet van plan om naar het buitenland te vertrekken als ze stoppen met werken. Bij de minderheid die wel wil emigreren is Spanje het meest populair, gevolgd door Frankrijk en Italië.
Dit blijkt uit representatief onderzoek door Aon Consulting, onafhankelijk risicoadviseur op het gebied van Employee Benefits, onder 7.579 werknemers uit tien Europese landen, waaronder 752 Nederlanders.
Nederlanders zijn honkvaster dan veel andere Europeanen. Van de Europese werknemers wil slechts één op de vier zijn oude dag in het buitenland doorbrengen. Spanjaarden (87%), Fransen (81%) en Denen (74%) zijn er het meest op gebrand om in eigen land te blijven wonen na hun pensionering.

Mensen die van plan zijn hun pensioen in het buitenland door te brengen, moeten daar rekening mee houden in hun spaarplannen. Ook kan er, zowel thuis als in het nieuwe land van verblijf, sprake zijn van fiscale implicaties. Het is dus zeker de moeite waard om dat vooraf te onderzoeken, zodat men later niet voor onaangename verrassingen komt te staan.”
Fraude met Iberico ham in SpanjeSPAANSE IBERICO HAM – Volgens de Junta de Andalucia wordt er op grote schaal fraude gepleegd met de beroemde Spaanse Iberico ham.
Men kwam tot deze conclusie nadat er in Sevilla een flinke partij ham werd onderschept die ten onrechte als “Iberico ham” was gekenmerkt.
Een simpele rekensom leerde al snel dat er inderdaad op grote schaal fraude moet worden gepleegd met de Iberico ham, immers wanneer je alle Spaanse Iberico hammen, die jaarlijks worden verkocht, bij elkaar optelt dan zouden er in Andalusië ruim 1 miljoen varkens moeten worden geslacht.
Aangezien het aantal varkens dat in Andalusië jaarlijks wordt geslacht niet boven de 500.000 uitkomt kunnen er dus nooit zoveel Iberico hammen worden verhandeld ieder jaar.
De Junta de Andalucia heeft maatregelen en strengere controles afgekondigd, immers zowel de consumenten als de bonafide boeren moeten worden beschermd tegen deze oplichters die “valse” Iberico ham op de markt brengen.

Spanje investeert flink in spoornetwerkTot op heden is het Spaanse spoorwegnet sterk gericht op de hoofdstad Madrid. Hierin komt echter verandering. De centrale overheid heeft besloten tot de aanleg van een nieuwe mediterrane spoorcorridor. Voornaamste doel is meer lading van de weg naar het spoor te verschuiven (modal shift). Bovendien bestaat de wens het land als een belangrijke intercontinentale logistieke hub te positioneren.
De Spaanse overheid is van plan 51,3 miljard Euro te spenderen in de aanleg van 1.300 km nieuw spoor langs de oostkust van het Iberische schiereiland.
Volgens José Blanco, minister van ontwikkeling, dient het traject in 2020 gereed te zijn.
De nieuwe spoorlijn loopt parallel aan de bestaande spoorlijn en verbindt de belangrijkste havens met de industriële centra langs de kust. Te beginnen in Algeciras in het zuiden via Málaga, Murcia, Valencia en Barcelona tot aan de Franse grens in het noorden. Op de lange
termijn zou de corridor tevens als feeder-link kunnen fungeren voor de verbinding tussen Spanje en Marokko.
Vijf van de tien grootste economische regio’s in Spanje zijn gelegen langs deze kuststrook. Bijna de helft van de 47 miljoen Spanjaarden leeft in deze regio en genereert gezamenlijk circa 40% van het bruto binnenlands product.
De nieuwe spoorlijn voor hogesnelheidstreinen tussen de Franse grens en Barcelona is reeds onder constructie en zal in 2012 in gebruik worden genomen. Het enige in Spanje enkelsporige traject, tussen Tarragona en Vandellòs, zal in 2013 gereed zijn.
In tegenstelling tot de huidige spoorlijn zal het nieuwe traject worden uitgerust met de standaard spoorbreedte, zoals die in de meeste West-Europese landen wordt gehanteerd. Nu moet lading, komend vanuit Frankrijk, aan de Spaanse grens worden overgeslagen op andere treinen in verband met de afwijkende – bredere – spoorbreedte in Spanje. Een kostbaar en tijdrovend proces dat met de nieuwe corridor verholpen moet worden.

Ученые: страны Средиземноморья в ближайшие три года ждет страшное цунамиСтраны Средиземноморья, включая Египет, в ближайшие три года ожидает разрушительное цунами, заявила группа египетских и итальянских ученых.По их данным, в районе трех островов - Кипр, Родос и Крит - произойдет сильное землетрясение, после которого возникнет угроза цунами, и в итоге на прибрежные города обрушатся многометровые волны, смывая на своем пути целые города.По словам профессора Ахмеда Али Бадуи, специалиста по изучению сейсмологических процессов в Каирском научно-исследовательском институте астрономии и геофизики, в ходе изучения истории землетрясений на планете за последние 4 тысячи лет специалисты пришли к выводу, что Египет в 21 случае значительно пострадал от цунами,
спровоцированного подземными толчками.
Только в 20 веке на территории страны ощущались толчки от 52 землетрясений, эпицентр которых находился в море.
Напомним, ранее специалисты института сейсмологии Национальной Академии наук Кыргызстана спрогнозировали 9-балльное землетрясение (по 12-балльной шкале MSK), которое может произойти на территории республики в этом году.
11 марта этого года на северо-востоке Японии уже произошло землетрясение подобной мощности.
За землетрясением последовало цунами, высота волн в ближайших к очагу районах достигала десяти метров. По последним данным, жертвами стихии стали 13,8 тысячи человек.
Безвизовый режим: Россия – Испания
Между российскими и европейскими дипломатами согласован «Перечень совместных шагов» - это документ предваряющий соглашение о безвизовом режиме.
«Перечень совместных шагов» разбит на четыре блока, в первом из них речь идет о степенях защиты документов - паспортов и удостоверений личности. О виде биометрического паспорта, о содержании информации чипа, о виде устройств на границе, которые будут считывать информацию с паспортов, а также о том, какой будет процедура передачи информации
об утраченных или украденных паспортах.
Подробности продвижения в решении этого вопроса: Испания предложила, а Франция и Италия поддержали план выдавать заявителю из России в первый раз одноразовую шенгенскую визу, во второй - визу на два года с правом многократного въезда, в третий - на пять лет.

Городской суд Барселоны запретил ношение купальников на улицах
В пятницу, 29 апреля, городской суд Барселоны ввел запрет на появления людей в купальниках в черте города. Ранее такое решение было вынесено городским законодательным собранием, но было оспорено в суде. Власти заявили, что в последнее время на улицах появилось множество людей в плавках и бикини, что провоцирует вседозволенность и развращает население города. Нарушителям нового ограничения грозит штраф от 120 до 300 евро, если же человек будет полностью обнажен, ему придётся заплатить от 300 до 500 евро.
Многие люди, в том числе представители страны выступили с резкой критикой нового запрета, заявив, что власти указывают гражданам как им стоит одеваться.
В январе 2011 года в Испании вступил в силу закон, запрещающий курить в барах, ресторанах, рядом с больницами и на школьных площадках. Еще раньше, в 2006, году в Барселоне была объявлена борьба с представителями «евро-хиппи».
