Take Juliette Low on an adven-ture to Thinking day, the movies, dance class or an activity with your friends or family.
This book/kit represents the laser cut patch of Juliette. Whenever someone sees Juliette on your vest, totebag, or banner they will know that you have contributed to Juliette’s adventure. She is from Switzerland. Included in this kit is an introduction about her life, culture, and clothing she wears. In addition, there are crafts, games, and recipes that will enhance your knowledge of her country and lifestyle.
Read Juliette’s story and take the laser cut patch of Juliette on an adventure of your own. There are several pages of decorated stationary to write your adven-tures with Juliette on. Don’t forget to draw a picture of you and Juliette. Pass your book around to your other friends so they can have fun with their own Juli-ette patch as well. If you run out of pages to write your stories on, you can always add more pages to the book or write on the back of the pages.
After you have completed your adven-tures with Juliette you can mail or email
copies of your stories to Patchwork De-signs, Inc. and we will place these stories on Juliette’s web page it will be fun to see where Juliette goes.
Email: [email protected]
We will not include full names on the website due to security issues. You will want to keep a laser cut Juliette for your-self so you can remember the adventure you went on with her.
These kits books can be shared to write stories in but can only be copied for the activity sheets, stationery pages, or puz-zles.
Great for studying the country for Think-ing Day events, winter holiday vacation, summer vacation, or other group pro-jects.
The recipes and activities presented in this kit are different than the activities in the Switzerland manual listed below.
Hello, My name is Juliette, but my friends and family call me Daisy. I live in Savannah, Georgia. My birthday is on Hallow-een, October 31st. It is lots of fun to have your birthday on a holiday.
I love animals and I try to feed the stray animals in our area. Stray means that they don't have a nice home to live in so they have to live on the streets. It is hard for them to get food because they don't have a family to take care of them.
I also like to play with my cousins in our backyard. We play with our dolls and enjoy games like hide-and-go seek. Inside, we play parlour games like blindman’s bluff, hot boiled beans, charades, and the bellman. My favorite thing to do is to create plays and acting them out. We have created plays adapted from books, the
Civil War, and Native Americans. At first our plays started out small, but now we perform them in front of our families.
I also enjoy drawing, writing poems and short stories. My friends and I thought we would put all of our work together and create a magazine. Inside the magazine, we put a lot of my drawings and silly poems. I love being creative.
Once a week, my mother teaches me tea manners. We invite my cousins and their moms to a tea party at my house. We practice proper behavior at the table such as: sitting up straight, saying "thank you", placing a napkin
on our lap, and not slurping our tea. We dress up in nice dresses and sometimes bring our dolls to tea. During the holidays, we have themed tea parties, like Valentine’s Day. We exchange paper valen-tines, hang heart paper garlands, and enjoy heart shaped tea cookies. It is lots of fun being with friends while we learn manners.

Last Christmas, my family gathered together for the annual taffy pull and a festive dinner. The parents put the taffy mixture in a large pot and waited for it to boil. I pulled the taffy out after it began to cool. We
stretched it into long strings then rolled it between our hands to cre-ate taffy candy. But, my cousin Randolph was getting bored and sug-gested that we braid the taffy in my hair, since the taffy was brown. He said, “Let’s see if it is the same color.” I willingly agreed and he braided the soft taffy in my hair but soon it hardened and it was stuck. We tried and tried to get the taffy out but it just wouldn’t budge. Eventually, I had to tell my mom and she tried to remove it carefully, but she wasn't happy. As an end result, my mom had to cut off most of my hair to remove it. Afterwards, we like to decorate our Christmas tree, exchange gifts, and make gingerbread houses too. I like to create homemade gifts for my family and friends.
In the summertime we visit my Aunt Eliza’s house. There are large fruit orchards, some donkeys, goats and horses. Over twenty cousins of mine were there last summer and we had lots of fun swim-ming, riding horses, climbing trees, and making paper dolls. At night, we gathered around the campfire and gazed at the stars.
I’d love to go out into the world see what your life is like. Would you take me on an adventure? Use the following pages to write about our adventures together.

Recipes Pecan Pinwheel Cookies
1 cup of butter
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of white granulated sugar
2 eggs
4 cups of cake flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
Place butter and sugar in a medium mixing bowl, cream together. Beat in eggs. Combine flour and baking soda together in a separate bowl. Gradually add the flour to the mixture, stirring as you add the flour. Place in the refrigerator for about an hour or until firm.
While the dough is in the refrigerator, prepare the filling. Chop up the dates into small pieces about the size of raisins. Purchase chopped pecans or chop the pecans into small pieces. Place the water and sugar in a saucepan on medium heat and bring it to a boil. Once it comes to a boil add the lemon juice, dates, and pecans. Reduce the heat to low and cook slowly until thick. Once
it is cooked, set it aside and let it cook.
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and place it on a slightly floured counter dividing it equally into four parts. Take the first section and roll it out about 1/8inch thick. Using a rubber spatula spread the filling on the flattened dough. Roll it up like a jelly roll and wrap it in wax
paper. Place it in the refrigerator until it is firm or the freezer for about 5 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Repeat the procedure with the other pieces of dough. Re-move the firm dough from the refrigerator and slice it thinly. Placing on a nonstick cookie sheet about an inch apart from each other. Bake for 10 minutes and serve warm.
Cream Cheese and Walnut Sandwiches
1 loaf of sliced bread (trim crust from bread)
8 ounces of cream cheese [softened]
1/4 cup of walnuts 4 tablespoons of butter [softened]
1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
1 teaspoon of honey Place the softened cream cheese in a bowl and add the walnuts and nutmeg. Blend together. In a small bowl add the honey to the butter and mix well. Take 2 slices bread and spread the honey
and butter mixture on both sides of the bread lightly. Then spread the cream cheese mixture on top of the butter. Place the two slices of bread together, pressing down gently. Use a knife to trim the crusts from the sandwich. Cut into squares or triangles and serve with tea.
Sugary Strawberries
1 pint of strawberries 1/2 cup of sugar
Wash the strawberries keeping the leaves in tact. Grab the top of the strawberry and roll it in the sugar. Place on a plate and serve for an afternoon snack or tea party.

Bellman
Bell
At least 6 players
Blindfolds
Clear the room of breakable items and small furniture that can be tripped over. Choose one player to be the bellman, all other players are blindfolded. Advise the players to walk slowly around the room while they are blindfolded. The bellman walks around the room and
rings the bell periodically. The object of the game is to tag the bellman. Once the bellman is touched then they change places with the person that touched them. Continuing playing until it would like to stop.
Hot Boiled Beans-similar to hot and cold.
Small item to hide
At least 4 players
Show the item that you are going to hide to the entire group. Then choose one person to be it
and send that player out of the room. One of the remaining people in the room take the object and hide it in the room. Call to the player back in the room saying, "Hot Boiled Beans and Bacon for supper, hurry up before it gets cold." The player returns to the room and starts looking for the missing article. Everyone else gives clues to whether they are “hot” close to the item or
“cold” not even near the item. They shout out that their supper is getting "very cold", "cold", "hot", "very hot", or "burning", really close, to show how close they are from the item. After they find the item they can choose who is “it” next. You can choose to hid the same item again or a different item. Continue to play until everyone has a chance to be “it”. This means when some-
one is chosen to be “it” they should not choose someone that has already had a chance.
Name that Animal
Blindfolds
At least 4 players
Clear the room of breakable items and small furniture that can be tripped over. Choose one player to be blindfold. Advise the player to walk slowly around the room while they are blind-folded. The remainder of players spread out around the room and stay in one place. Once they
find a spot to stand they must stay there. The blindfolded player feels his way about the room until finally touching someone. The player that is touched must immediately do an imitation of some kind of animal anything that they can think of. Examples: a dog, cat, horse, cow, pig, donkey, rooster, or tiger. They must repeat the animal
sound three times. The blind man then has a chance to guess the name of the person they captured. If they guess correctly, the prisoner becomes the blind man, and a new game begins. If they do not guess correctly then
they have to try and find another person, they make an animal sound etc. The game continues until they give up, run out of players, or guess the name of the player.

Paper Flowers- Flowers are used for decorations at tea parties or special holidays.
Tissue paper in vibrant colors [choose colors according to theme or holiday]
Scissors
Pipe cleaners
Stack the pieces of tissue paper 4 layers thick. Cut them into 6 inch squares. Take four
squares and stack them on top of each other, alternating the colors. Fold them accordion style. Fold the pipe cleaner in half. Slide the folded tissue paper in the crease of the folded pipe cleaner. Twist the pipe cleaner together creating the stem. Spread each sheet apart, careful not to rip each layer of tissue paper. Fluff it out. Display for decoration on a table in a
basket on a plate or hanging from a string. Please note: If you are using it for table decora-tions that if anyone spills a liquid near the flowers, the dye from the tissue paper will seep into the cloth tablecloth or runner.
