When you download the design, you will find multiple files. Someare the embroidery files, and theothers are dieline files markedwith the letters "DL". Dielines areused to cut the fabric to thecorrect shape and size.

Open and print each dieline fileusing an embroidery software. Ifyou do not have an embroiderysoftware, Wilcom TrueSizer is afree program to use.

For the back piece only, sprayone side of a piece of cutawaystabilizer with temporaryadhesive. Smooth the stabilizeronto the wrong side of the backpiece fabric.

Then spray the back side of theprinted back piece dieline withtemporary adhesive, and smoothit onto the right side of the backfabric.

Cut the back dieline shape out ofthe adhered fabric. Then removethe paper dieline.

Next spray the back side of all ofthe remaining front paper dielineswith temporary adhesive. Smooththem onto the right side of theappropriate fabrics.

Cut out all the remaining dielinepieces.

There are a couple of differentkinds of water-soluble stabilizer. One is clear and plastic, and thatbrand is Sulky Ultra Solvy. Theother is soft and fibrous, calledVilene. Both will work very well.Vilene is used in thisdemonstration.

Use a size 11 or 75/11 sharpsewing needle. A sharp sewingneedle has a smaller, finer pointthan an embroidery needle. Thatmeans it will make smaller holesin the stabilizer.

Hoop the stabilizer firmly. Makesure it is nice and tight with nowrinkles.

The tassel in this design isdigitized to be used with either30-35 weight cotton thread or 40weight rayon embroidery thread.30-35 weight cotton thread isfound under different names, such as mercerized cotton or all-purpose cotton. In thisdemonstration we used cottonthread.

As the tassel is seen from bothsides, wind a bobbin with thesame thread that you're using inthe needle.

Attach the hoop onto themachine, and load theembroidery file (not the dielinefiles).

Use a 75/11 sharp sewing needleinstead of an embroidery needle. The sharp sewing needle has afiner point, and it will makesmaller perforations in thestabilizer.

Embroider the design. The firstthing to embroider will be thetassel. When its finished removethe hoop from the machine, butdo not unhoop the stabilizer.

After the tassel has embroidered, all of the front details willembroider next. As the back sideof the front details will be coveredby the back piece, you do notneed to match a bobbin while yousew them.

Instead, wind a bobbin withnormal bobbin thread, and usethat for this section of theembroidery.

The next thing to embroider willbe a dieline (or outline stitch). This marks the area on thestabilizer where the "frontinternal" fabric piece will beplaced.

After the dieline has sewn, remove the hoop from themachine, but do not unhoop thestabilizer.

Spray the wrong side of the "frontinternal" fabric piece withtemporary adhesive. Smooth thefabric on the stabilizer inside ofthe sewn dieline.

Place the hoop back onto themachine, and embroider thetackdown for the "front internal"fabric piece. The tackdown holdsthe fabric piece in the place forthe remainder of the design. Thefront internal piece will becovered completely by the otherfront fabric pieces. It is neededunder the front fabric pieces toadd structure. The internal pieceprevents the other pieces fromfalling off the bookmark once it issoaked.

Follow the color change sheetuntil you reach the next dielinestep. This dieline will be for thefirst front piece that will actuallyshow on the finished bookmark.

Remove the hoop from themachine, spray the wrong side ofthe first visible front fabric piece, and place it inside the sewndieline. This fabric piece will sitright on top of the internal fabricpiece.

Embroider the first fabric piece'stackdown step.

Continue to follow the colorchange sheet and embroider thenext dieline step.

Repeat to remove the hoop fromthe machine, spray the wrongside of the next fabric piece, andplace it inside the sewn dieline. Then return the hoop to themachine, and embroider thispiece's tackdown step.

Follow the color change sheet toembroider the remaining frontdielines and tackdowns. Makesure to spray and place eachfront piece inside of its dielinebefore sewing its tackdown.

After all the front fabric piecesare tacked down in place, embroider the inner details ifthere are any. Stop beforesewing the "back piecetackdown" step.

Before sewing the "back piecetackdown" step, remove the hoopfrom the machine, and turn itover so the back side of theembroidery is facing up.

Spray the back side of the backfabric piece with temporaryadhesive. Then smooth it intoplace on the back side of theembroidery, matching the edgesup with the outer edges of thestitching.

All the embroidery from here onout will be seen from both sides.

Wind another bobbin to matchthe remaining thread colors usedin the design.

Return the hoop to the machine.Follow the color change sheet, and embroider the back piecetackdown and finishing seam.

Once the embroidery is finished, unhoop the design and trim awaythe excess stabilizer.

The stabilizer's packaging shouldgive instructions for removing theexcess. For Vilene, soak theembroidered lace for a fewmoments.

Then allow the piece to air drybefore pressing it flat with aniron.

To make the tassel lay correctly, iron it with a pressing cloth on topuntil all of the fringe lays flat andstraight.
