PARISH NEWSLETTER

1st October 2017.

The Beautiful Everyday:

Recently, I went to the wrong section in a cinema and ended up watching a fun

animated film called, Trolls. The film was a quirky, tuneful exploration of the themes of

friendship, family and standing by the frailest Troll by going the extra mile!

I was equally taken by two advertisements shown before the film! The first, with the

tagline, ‘the beautiful everyday’, was from a well-known Scandinavian furniture

company. This series of advertisements is designed to get people thinking about how

we live at home and as families. This advertisement brilliantly and movingly captures

the love between a mother and her son. The second one was for baby wipes and I

wondered should I bother watching it and I am glad that I did. It opens with a father’s

hand gently caressing a tiny new-born baby’s face. This close-up shot then moves to a

mother holding her new-born baby to her heart in a tender hug of love. The

advertisement is cleverly designed to demonstrate the strength and bond of deep

attachment between parent and baby.

When filmmakers and marketing people tap into the power and simplicity of the

family, they present it as a universal good to which we can all feel connected.

The Bible is full of family stories to remind us that in every family we can glimpse the

presence and the love of God. Most people are not convinced by this fact. But it is

true!! As a new school year begins we remember in a prayer all families, especially

those families who are preparing to celebrate the Sacraments of First Confession, First

Communion and Confirmation. May all Parents realise that in cherishing and loving

their children, they offer a sign of hope for the future and that this is a central part of

family prayer.

Jesus invites every family when He says: ‘Let the children come to me.’ It is ‘the

beautiful everyday.’

SHARED MASS INTENTIONS: From 2018, the FIRST SATURDAY MORNING MASS of each

month will be considered a 'SHARED MASS'. This is a Mass that includes a number of intentions and these will be announced at the start of the Mass. This is a practice adopted by many parishes to meet this need and it is a response to the pastoral reality of requested intentions and the availability of Masses. The offerings for the Shared Mass will go to the Sick and Retired Priest's Fund in the Diocese. At every Mass we pray the following to express that everyone is included in the loving mercy of God: " In your compassion O God, gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world".

From 2018 the Morning Masses on week-days will be from Monday to Friday at 8 am and 10

am. The Morning Mass on Saturday will be at 10 am. For July and August the week-day will be

at 10 am. The 10 am Mass is to enable the priests to have adequate time to prepare for a possible

Funeral Mass at 11:30 am.
