Mental Health is a state of well-being in which every individual

realises his/her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of

life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a

contribution to their community. (WHO)

At WLA we aim to promote positive mental health for every member

of staff and student body.

Childhood and teenage years are when mental health is developed

and patterns are set for the future. If you do have concerns and

want to discuss any issue with a member of staff please speak with

your child's Head of Year;

Y7 – Miss Brown Y8 – Ms Clements Y9 – Ms Wightman

Y10 – Mrs Brown Y11 – Miss Donaldson Y12/13 – Mrs Denwood

or Mr Sunter

NATIONALLY 850,000 CHILDREN AGED 5-16 HAVE MENTAL

HEALTH PROBLEMS

As young people grow and develop, children have to navigate a

complex and ever changing world, facing challenges and

pressures in numerous aspects of their lives:

• Pressure to have access to money, the perfect body and lifestyle.

• Materialist culture heavily influences young people

• 24 hour social networking and what young people can access from a young

age can have a negative impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

• Body image is a source of much distress for many young people.

• Pressure of exams; university entry has become more competitive and

expensive.

• Worries about next steps, their futures, accessing the world of work

Your Attendance Target

Students need a minimum of 95%

attendance

Just 9 days absence puts their target at

risk!

They should attend all 190 school days

this still leaves 175 days

to do everything else!

Page 13: Parents' Forum 05.04.2017

17 days missed a year = a drop in a Grade at GCSE(DFES)

A total of 500 hours

of thiereducation

Over 5 years that = ½ a year

A total of 120

lessons

Which is the same

as 4 weeks

They miss 1/2 a day

each week

Page 14: Parents' Forum 05.04.2017

PunctualityBeing 10 minutes late

every day = 1 whole

lesson a week

The school day starts

with registration at

08:30.

Students are

expected to be here

by 08:20.

Students arriving late

miss information for

the day!

Students who arrive

late disturb the

learning of others!

The authority can and will issue

Penalty Notices for students

whose punctuality is an

on-going problem and impacts

on learning
