The following is from “Nuestra Parroquia” The Readings and their Message

Genesis 3:9–15 This reading addresses the constant struggle between good and evil, which is part of human life. Before God, the humanity, which is represented here by Adam and Eve, is conscious of its acts and is ashamed; but it is not capable of accepting its responsibility. Adam blames Eve (and indirectly blames God) and Eve blames the serpent. Today we know that, even when human choices lead us to evil, God will not abandon us. The sacrifice of Jesus and his victory over death has assured us that good will never be overcome by evil; but, we have to be responsible for our wrong actions and not repeat them. 2 Corinthians 4:13—5:1 In this fragment of his letter, Paul affirms and reminds us that, like Jesus, we too will have eternal life through the grace of God. The apostle distinguishes between what we see (that is transitory) and what we do not see (which is eternal); and calls us not to fear the natural process of wearing out of the physical body, because our inner self—which is our true self—is renewed daily. Consequently, he reminds us that our body is the earthly dwelling of our spirit; but its eternal dwelling is in heaven. If we trust in the Lord, whatever happens in our life will be for our spiritual benefit and for the glory of God. Mark 3:20–35 Some of those who were around Jesus did not understand his mission and they thought he was crazy. They only saw that he had chosen a path that was fairly difficult and also, dangerous. Even his family must have feared that this path would bring him to a clash with the Roman civil authorities and the Jewish religious authorities, as it occurred in the end. Jesus affirms in this reading his freedom to choose to fulfill his divine mission and that those who accept it and recognize his ministry form his family and will share the love of God. In other words, by doing the will of God we become part of the family of God.

As parents/caregivers, we teach children to say “please” and “thank you,” to play nicely, and to respect other adults. It is also key to stress the importance of safety, and let children know that it is okay to be impolite if they feel threatened or scared. Children should know that it’s okay to say “NO” if someone is asking them to do something they don’t feel comfortable doing, and that setting boundaries by saying things like -- “Don’t touch me there,” or “I don’t like that” -- are not rude, but in fact necessary for their safety. Dear Parish family at St. Anthony’s, May the peace of Christ be with you all! I am truly grateful to everyone in this community of St. Anthony’s for journeying with me in this past year of internship. You have all warmly welcomed me to be a part of this community. It feels as though it was just a week or two

ago that I arrived here, but ten months have passed by instantly and now it is time for my return to the seminary. In any vocation, I truly believe there are three elements: (1) the primacy of God’s call and invitation; (2) the individual’s fiat or “amen, let it be” to God; and (3) the “others”. In this year, this community has served as the “other” (just as a child forms, molds, and solidifies the vocation of a parent through all the joys, challenges, tears, etc.) who have affirmed and continued to help mold with the cooperation of the promptings of the Holy Spirit and our Lord. Thank you all for cooperating with God and helping me solidify my vocation as a seminarian preparing for Holy Orders! This year has been a memorable year for me and this parish community will be dearly missed. Please rest assured of my prayers for this community to continually grow in holiness and in deeper relationship with our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Please continue to keep me and my brother seminarians in prayer that we may always follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit to also grow in holiness and to become holy priests serving the people of God entrusted to us. Today we are having the Priest Retirement Fund Campaign. We are truly blessed by the men who have given their lives in service to thousands of families as a priest. As life begins to change in their later years, so too do their needs.

Our parish Feast Day of St. Anthony of Padua is June 13th. Our patron Saint, who lived from 1195 until 1231, was born in Portugal, and as a Franciscan priest, ministered in Italy.

That evening we will celebrate a 7:00pm Mass in our Church, and then share a potluck supper in the auditorium.

All are warmly encouraged to attend and say goodbye to our Associate Pastor, Fr. Chris and our Seminarian Intern Justin Oh. Our Seminarian last day is Friday, June 15th.

Fr. Chris will be with us until Monday, June 25th. You will also have the opportunity to say goodbye to Fr. Chris, on Sunday, June 24. He will be in the auditorium after each mass.

Querida familia parroquial de San Antonio, ¡Que la paz de Cristo esté con todos ustedes! Estoy muy agradecido con todos ustedes, la comunidad de San Antonio, por acompañarme a caminar en este último año pastoral. Todos me han acogido calurosamente para ser parte de

esta familia parroquial. Parece que fue hace una o dos semanas que llegué aquí, pero han pasado diez meses tan rápido que ya llegó el tiempo de mi regreso al seminario.

En cualquier vocación, realmente creo que hay tres elementos: (1) la primacía del llamado y la invitación de Dios; (2) el fíat del individuo o “amén, déjalo ser” a Dios; y (3) los “otros”. En este año, esta comunidad ha servido como “el otro” (así como un niño se forma, moldea y solidifica la vocación de un padre a través de todas las alegrías, desafíos, lágrimas, etc.) que ustedes han afirmado y continúan ayudando a moldear con la cooperación de las motivaciones del Espíritu Santo y nuestro Señor. ¡Gracias a todos por cooperar con Dios y ayudarme a solidificar mi vocación como seminarista preparándome para las Sagradas Órdenes!

Este año ha sido un año memorable para mí y esta comunidad parroquial será profundamente extrañada. Tengan por seguro que estarán en mis oraciones para que esta comunidad continúe creciendo en santidad y en una profunda relación con nuestro Buen Pastor, Jesucristo. Somos verdaderamente bendecidos por los sacerdotes que han dado sus vidas en el servicio a miles de familias. Como la vida comienza a cambiar en sus años de la tercera edad, también incrementan sus necesidades.

Juntos estamos invitados a unirnos y bendice a los que nos han bendecido hacienda un donativo al Fondo de Jubilación para Sacerdotes. La fiesta parroquial de nuestro Santo patrón es el día 13 de Junio. San Antonio de Padua que vivió desde 1195 hasta 1231, nació en Portugal, y como un sacerdote Franciscano, hizo su ministerio en Italia. Esa noche vamos a celebrar una Misa a las 7:00 pm en nuestra iglesia, y luego tendremos un convivio en el auditorio.

Todos están invitados a asistir y despedirse de nuestro Pastor Asociado, el Padre Chris y nuestro Seminarista Interno Justin Oh. El ultimo día de nuestro Seminarista es el viernes 15 de Junio.

El padre Chris estará con nosotros hasta el lunes 25 de Junio. También tendrá la oportunidad de decir adiós al padre Chris, el Domingo 24 de Junio. El estará en el auditorio después de cada misa.

Las lecturas y su mensaje

Génesis 3:9–15 Esta lectura trata de la continua lucha entre el bien y el mal, que es parte de la vida humana. Ante Dios, la humanidad representada por Adán y Eva es consciente de sus actos y se avergüenza; pero no es capaz de aceptar su responsabilidad. Adán culpó a Eva (e indirectamente a Dios) y Eva culpó a la serpiente. Hoy sabemos que, aun cuando las elecciones humanas nos conduzcan al mal, Dios no nos abandonará. El sacrificio de Jesús y su victoria sobre la muerte nos han asegurado que el bien nunca será superado por el mal; pero, tenemos que ser responsables de nuestras malas acciones y no repetirlas.

2 Corintios 4:13—5:1 En este fragmento de su carta, Pablo afirma y nos recuerda que, como Jesús, nosotros también tendremos vida eterna por la gracia de Dios. El apóstol distingue entre lo que vemos (que es transitorio) y lo que no vemos (que es eterno); y llama a no temerle al proceso natural de desgaste físico del cuerpo, porque nuestro espíritu —que es nuestro verdadero ser— se renueva a diario. Consecuentemente, nos recuerda que nuestro cuerpo es la morada terrenal de nuestro espíritu; pero su morada eterna está en el cielo. Si confiamos en el Señor, lo que ocurra en nuestra vida será para nuestro provecho espiritual y para Gloria de Dios.

Marcos 3:20–35 Algunos de quienes rodeaban a Jesús no entendían su misión y pensaban que estaba loco. Solo veían que había elegido un camino, como poco, difícil, y además, peligroso. Incluso su familia debió temer que ese camino lo llevara a un enfrentamiento con las autoridades civiles romanas y religiosas judías, como finalmente ocurrió. Jesús afirma en esta lectura su libertad para elegir cumplir su misión divina y que quienes lo acepten y reconozcan su ministerio constituyen su familia y compartirán el amor de Dios. En otras palabras, al hacer la voluntad de Dios nos volvemos parte de la familia de Dios.

St. Anthony Parish will be conducting a VIRTUS RECERTIFICATION session “Keeping the Promise Alive” on Tuesday, June 26th at 6:30pm in the parish auditorium. This session is for

those individuals who have been previously certified and need to be re certified (certification is every four years). This session will be one hour and a half. (1 1/2 hr).
