As always our students performed admirably and displayed fine sportsmanship and behaviour throughout the day. I would like to thank our dedicated PE teacher, Mrs Holmes, for the outstanding job she did in preparing the carnival and ensuring its smooth running as well as the Padbury PS and WCLDC staff who, as always, contributed to the success of the carnival. A big thank you is also extended to the members of the P&C who gave up their time to conduct a sausage sizzle for the students to enjoy. I must also thank, and congratulate, the majority of our parents who, despite the disappointment of not being able to attend, put the best interests of our school community ahead of individual considerations and abided by the notification that the carnival would be a spectator free event. These parents may not realise it, but their support of the decision to hold a spectator free event, sent a powerful message to their children that sometimes we must put the group interests ahead of the individual. This is an important lesson in life for our children and will support the development of their resilience when they are faced with obstacles and disappointment in the future. Mrs Tan took almost 800 photos and videos during the day and, once these have been sorted, parents will be provided a link enabling them to view them. EDUDANCE Our annual EduDance program will conclude on Monday 21 st September. Every year the final performance is one of our most popular and is attended by a large contingent of parents and extended family members from both Padbury Primary School and West Coast Language Development Centre. Because of Phase 4 operating guidelines which require schools to observe physical distancing requirements, the school has had to consider whether these requirements can be adhered to for this event. Unfortunately, I must advise parents that the grassed viewing area we normally use for spectators is not large enough to enable the physical distancing of the anticipated numbers of parents likely to attend. Furthermore, the physical distancing requirements would severely restrict the view for most of the spectators, which could potentially lead to people crowding the undercover area and not complying with the guidelines. This would compromise the performance.

NEWSLETTER ISSUE No. 12 2020

For these reasons, the performance this year will be a spectator free event. However, the school will be videoing the performance and this will be made available to parents via a link which will be provided after the event. This will provide parents with an unrestricted view of the concert and a keepsake they will be able to download. The Western Australian Government has indicated that the next decision regarding a move to Phase 5 will be considered on October 24th. This is at the end of Week 2 next term. This would see further easing of restrictions and events able to proceed without physical distancing. I must remind parents that, as I have indicated in previous correspondence, these are not decisions which are taken lightly and I do understand the disappointment parents may experience. However, whilst this disappointment is regrettable, this decision has been made in the best interests of our entire school community and I trust parents will understand and support the decision. HEALTHY LUNCH BOX CHOICES

The Western Australian School Canteen Association’s (WASCA) kindergarten orienta-

tion video is available to encourage parents to make healthy lunchbox choices for

their children. The link below will provide all parents with some great information

and ideas for providing children with healthy lunches.
