During our meeting, Mr Collier was asked about to address the concerns in the school community about the future of the school. This was a wonderful opportunity to highlight our school to the broader community and I would like to thank our School Chaplain, Jade Crompton for her outstanding efforts in organising and coordinating the morning’s events. My thanks also go to the P&C for organising the sausage sizzle for breakfast and the band of helpers who helped cook and prepare the sausages, including our gardener Max Walker. Principal’s Message

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

SCHOOL VISIT - MINISTER FOR EDUCATION The Minister for Education, Honourable Peter Collier MLC visited our school last Friday. Mr Collier met with Mischa Cousins (Chair - School Council), Aniko Skribek (President - P&C) and myself before visiting classrooms and addressing the staff. During our meeting, Mr Collier was asked about to address the concerns in the school community about the future of the school. His response was that Padbury PS would NOT be closing and he asked that a letter be sent to him asking the same question so this could be put in writing.

It was very pleasing to hear this from the Minister and I trust this will allay any parent concerns that may be in the community.

P&C DONATIONS At last week’s meeting, the P&C committed to providing $2600 to the school to support staff submissions. The funds will provide support for a range of resources and activities and will directly benefit the learning program for students.

On behalf of staff and students I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the P&C team for their on-going support of the school.

98.5FM SONSHINE RADIO Last Friday morning, the school hosted 98.5FM as it broadcast from our undercover area. Despite the inclement weather, a large number of parents and students were in attendance and the morning was a huge success. Our School Choir performed live during the broadcast, as did Tye Thomson, one of our Year 6 students.

Finally, a great big THANK YOU to all the staff, parents and students who turned out to make the morning so successful

As this will be the final newsletter for the term I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire school community for making me feel so welcome during my first term at Padbury PS. I have been highly impressed by the calibre of our staff and the parent body who are so active at the school and have thoroughly enjoyed my transition to this GREAT little school. Regards, Neil Wood Principal

FROM THE CLASSROMS….. Therapy Focus….in Year 2 We have been very busy as illustrators in Year 2! We have been producing book illustrations for the Therapy Focus 2015 Help a Child Grow competition. Every year Therapy Focus holds a competition to illustrate a story written by a chosen author. The stories aim to help educate children about disability; encouraging understanding, acceptance and inclusion of children with special needs. This year’s story is called See Me. It features characters with disabilities and encourages readers to celebrate the unique talents and strengths of each individual. The Year 2’s have proved to be a group of budding artists, connecting and featuring the main idea from the text of the story to create a visual image to match. Look at some of our amazing pictures! Watch this space to find out if any of our work reaches the finals and how to vote to support our work. Finalist artworks will be displayed at Westfield Whitfords from Friday 17th – Sunday 19th July. Voting is open to all the public in the centre or online via the Therapy Focus Facebook page www.facebook.com/therapyfocus Fingers crossed!

Earn and Learn Woolworths earn and learn is starting up again in the coming weeks, in the past we have purchased some amazing equipment through the support of our school community. We would love for everyone to participate again by collecting the stickers from Woolworths and filling in the sheets that are available at woolwoths or in the front office. Padbury P&C Profiles Heather Longworth – Canteen Manager Heather is a mother of five and has been involved with Padbury PS since 2008. She believes that when you have kids at the school especially 4 of them, currently in Kindy, Year 1 and Year 6 you are motivated to help out. When asked how she finds her time, she says that it works out all right between working part-time in the evenings and volunteering during the day. She took over the role of Canteen Manager last year but she had been doing shifts there previously so she was somewhat familiar with the actual operations. As a Manager, she does the orders and some of the shifts if necessary which takes up about 6 hours of her time that she dedicates to our school community on a regular basis. At the moment our School Canteen is open on Mondays and Thursdays which means that there is a constant need of 7 able volunteers. There are two main2.5 hour shifts being 8.30am – 11am for recess and 10.50am – 1.30pm for lunch service with 1 +2 ratio on Mondays and 2+2 ratio on Thursdays. We are currently looking for two volunteers who are able to commit to Monday lunch service commencing from Term 3 as some of our long time volunteers have resigned due to other personal commitments. If you are interested in giving us a hand please contact Heather on 0403 531 101 or via the School Office.

What a fantastic morning we had on Friday 19th June when 98five FM came to broadcast their Free Coffee Friday show at our school. It was so wonderful to see so many parents and caregivers supporting this event despite the wet weather. We had kids arriving enthusiastically before the sun had risen! The free coffee and doughnuts seemed as though they were never ending, and the sausage sizzles warmed our tummies! Thanks to the 100 Lap Club for donating the Milo for our students. The broadcast team said that our broadcast was their best one yet! Well done to all who came on board and made it a success. I would like to make special mention of the School Captains Milly, Ilha, as well as Rebecca, Sophie, Casey, Talia, Tahlya, and Carys, (Rm18) for helping me over the last few weeks. They cut bunting and strung string and folded napkins. Also Mrs Romets class for donating their bully shield for decoration. Thank you to our fantastic P&C for organising the Bbq Breakfast as well as Mr Max and Tanya for their help in setting up at 5:30 in the morning and bbq-ing sausages and bacon! And all the parent volun-teers . Thank you to Mr Wood for allowing me to continue this project that I started late last year. I was so proud of the children who behaved so well and the school Choir also. Well done Padbury Primary School.

Congratulations to the students who were

awarded Merit Certificates at our recent as-sembly.

Value of the Term – Confidence We are teaching children about the Value of Confidence. Confidence means not taking things too personally when you don't do as well as you would like or when others tease or hassle you. No matter what happens to you, you are still a valuable and capable person. With your child, please talk about what their positive and not-so-good qualities are .Then remind them that they don't lose their positive qualities or value as a person when something bad happens.

Voluntary Contribution & P&C Levy We would like to thank parents who have paid their contribution and Levy. Your continued support for the school is most appreciated. You can choose to pay via Direct Debit, cheque or EFTPOS. Please contact the office anytime. 9401 1255 Thank you.
