Invitation to Participate in Pilot Process

Benefits of Being a Pilot Site

The Smart Automation Certification Alliance - SACA is a non-profit foundation supported by industry with the goal of creating a larger number of individuals with Industry 4.0 skills. To accomplish this goal the alliance is developing skill standards, providing teacher training, promoting these skill sets to students, and providing industry certifications.

Industry 4.0 technology is rapidly transforming the workplace. As companies increase their use of Ethernet networks and internet technology, they are connecting more devices, from smart sensors to smart phones, enabling them to reduce downtime and increase quality and productivity. These highly connected systems require new skills in almost every occupation, which include the ability to interact with software, data, networks, and smart devices.

Many certifications are available today that address isolated competencies, from machining to maintenance and IT, but SACA certifi-cations are different. They address the integration of these technologies with Industry 4.0 technology.

SACA credentials are being developed under a rigorous process that began with the development of standards and assessments by independent groups of industry experts. The next step in this process is to pilot test the assessments using a combination of current incumbent workers and students of schools who have recently completed technical courses that relate to the topics of the assess-ments.

SACA is now seeking school and industry partners to make these assessments available to their students during a pilot period. The data from these assessments will be used to validate the assessments, make any improvements needed, and set the passing scores.

The benefits of being a part of this pilot process include:

• Free testing for participants - Once the passing scores are set, students who met or exceeded the scores will receive formal certification free of charge. Students are welcome to take assessments for as many credentials as they wish during the pilot period.• Receive national PR - Participating schools and industries will receive national recognition for their role in the pilot process, which can be used to promote the organization in their region or local community as a national leader in Industry 4.0 technology and workforce education and training.• Gain first access to state-of-the-art industry developed and validated skills certifications. - Organizations participating in the pilot process can get out in front of their peers by being the first in their region to implement Industry 4.0 certifications.• Improve the quality of current education programs. - Pilot sites will receive feedback student performance, which can be used to improve the quality of courses.

• Students that have had related course work• Entry level employees• Experienced workers• Instructors

We need as broad a cross-section of the industry to participate in the piloting process as possible. This would include:Who Can Participate in the piloting?

• There is no minimum or maximum number on how many credential exams can be offered.• Schools can choose to pilot any or all of the four Associate level credentials and the 16 micro-credentials of Automation Systems

Specialist, depending on the skills of the individuals to be tested or the classes being taught at the school. For example, the Electrical Systems 1 micro-credential could be piloted with any individuals who have been through a basic electricity course.

• Ideally the pilots would have the students complete both the hands-on assessment and the on-line knowledge portion, but they can do just the on-line portion if they have time constraints.

• For the pilot phase, instructors will be allowed to proctor the online and the hands-on tests.• Schools and industries who pilot the hands-on portion of the assessments will need the proper equipment.• The best candidates to do this testing are schools or companies that already have the recommended training equipment and

curriculum, and have students who are prepared

Step #1 – Set up Organization:

Step #2 – Invite New Users/Students:

Step #3 – Identify SACA Exam(s):

This step will create the organization of the SACA Portal (https://portal.saca.org), and assign a Primary Administrator.

To pilot the assessments, organizations will need be set up on SACA’s online testing portal. This portal has been designed to be very easy to use for administrators, instructors and students.

1. To begin the organization setup process, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/HzrWTLpKYRnruZPS72. SACA will receive the form and set up the organization.3. Once the organization is created, the Primary Administrator listed on the form will receive an automated email with a link to activate their account. This email includes a temporary password.4. When the Primary Administrator has activated their account, they can click the “log in” link to be directed to the login page. Upon logging in, it will ask the administrator to set their personal password.5. Once the Primary Administrator sets their password, they will be asked to fill out the User Information form.6. Once they fill in their information, the Primary Administrator will be set for the organization.

Students can join the organization by Instructor Invitation or by directly accessing the SACA portal if they do not have an invitation.

Initially, the organization will only have one user: the Primary Administrator. The Primary Administrator can invite other users to the organization by following these steps:

1. Navigate to the Manage Users page.2. Click the Invite button.3. Enter the email address(es) for the individuals you wish to send invitations.4. When finished, click the Send Invitation button.

Inviting New Users to the Organization

1. Navigate to the Registration page and select your Organization a. Via Invitation: Click on the Create an Account button in the Invitation email. The organization will be pre-selected. b. Without Invitation: Navigate to https://portal.saca.org. Select their organization from the drop-down list.2. Select their Instructor. New instructors will select the Primary Administrator for the organization as their instructor.3. Select pilot user or not. (for now, all users are pilot users)4. Enter their information and hit the Register button.5. They will receive an email to activate their account. They will need to click the Activate My Account button in the email.6. Their account is now ready to use. They can click the “log in” link to be directed to the login page.

Joining the Organization as a New User

• Identify the exams that you want each student to take. Students can, and are encouraged to, take multiple exams.• The SACA Portal does list other exams however; the focus of the initial pilot is on Associate and Automation System

Specialist 1 Exams. • The tests vary in the amount of questions, but there is a 90 min. time limit.

SACA Pilot Site teSting:SACA Pilot Site teStingStep #4 – Assign Assessments:

By default, the first step in assigning assessments is to select the assessments. If you would prefer to select users first before selecting assessments, click on the “Select Users” step to switch to that step. The assignment process can be done in either order.

Click Assign Assessments in the Administration dropdown

Login to SACA Portal as Primary Administrator - https://portal.saca.org

Search for a specific assessment or click Show All to see the full list. To select an assessment, check the box next to its name. To select all assessments, check the box next to Name in the top left corner of the list of assessments.

To select all assessments, check the box next to “ID” in the top left corner of the list of assessments.Once you have chosen the assessment(s), click the “Select Users” tab.

To choose which users the assessments will be assigned to, check the box next to that user’s name. All users can be selected by checking the box next to “Last Name” in the top left corner of the list of users.

You will then see a list of the assessments and users to be assigned. Confirm that the list is correct and click the “Confirm Assignments” button to finish.

When at least one assessment and at least one user have been selected, the “Finalize” tab will be highlighted. Click it to assign the assessments. If any pilot assessments are selected, they will only be assigned to the selected pilot users; non-pilot users cannot take pilot assessments.

Step #5 – Proctor/Administer the SACA Examinations:During the piloting phase Instructors will be able to proctor their student’s tests

• Login to SACA Portal as Primary Administrator - https://portal.saca.org• Video Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIRe6t8ynNY• To proctor an assessment, click on Proctor Written Assessment under the Administration drop-down.

Depending on your privileges you may have other options under this menu.

This will take you to the proctoring page where you can use the search functions to find the exams you wish to proctor.

Once you have found the exam you wish to proctor, click the blue “Proctor” button.

SACA Pilot Site teSting:SACA Pilot Site teStingConfirm that this is the user you want to proctor by comparing the address shown to the candidate’s proof of identification. If the information matches, check the checkbox and then select Enable Assessment.

Once the student has taken the test, the score will be marked as completed. Students will receive feedback on the number of questions correct/incorrect along with suggestions on the curriculum to cover that aligns with the incorrect answers. Once SACA has determined the cut score for each test, they will go back and grant certifications to students that passed the exam.
