worldwide through applied innovations, impact evaluation, education, and training that helps build just and

equitable societies. It is an integral part of Notre Dame’s new Keough School of Global Affairs.

U.S. Department of State Washington FellowshipIn summer 2014, Notre Dame hosted 25 African leaders and delivered a six-week curriculum on business, entrepreneurship, and ethics as the flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative.

USAID Democracy and Innovation GrantNotre Dame faculty are examining the role of discussion groups in rebuilding civil society and democracy in Mali, in partnership with the USAID Center of Excellence on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance.

MCC Water Impact Evaluation in GhanaThe Millenium Challenge Corporation is working with NDIGD monitoring and evaluation specialists to assess the short and long-term impact of water improvement programs in Ghana.

Connectivity, Electricity, and Education for EntrepreneurshipNDIGD is partnering with Accenture and Lenovo to bring power, internet connectivity, and entrepreneurial training to villages and rural areas of Uganda and South Africa.

IMPACT EVALUATION Through its Impact Evaluation division, NDIGD is able to respond to the current demand for accountability and results by providing monitoring and evaluation plans that are suitable for a broad range of projects. Methodologies include randomized pre-test and post-test evaluation, quasi-experimental design with before and after comparisons of project and control populations, ex-post comparison of project and non-equivalent control group, and rapid assessment ex-post impact evaluations.

education & training NDIGD works with faculty to develop interdisciplinary approaches to education and training programs related to global development needs. Programs include fellowship and research opportunities for Notre Dame graduate and undergraduate students, and collaborative institutes that host international students, entrepreneurs, and leaders at the University to further develop capacity and lead new initiatives in their home countries.

applied innovations The Applied Innovations division supports multidisciplinary research for integral human development. NDIGD bridges the gap between cutting-edge Notre Dame research and human needs in developing countries by leveraging faculty and staff expertise across disciplines to advance innovative solutions to complex problems.

Int’l Justice Mission (IJM) Property Grabbing EvaluationNDIGD is partnering with IJM to conduct data analysis on approximately 1800 household surveys as part of a study focused on property grabbing from widows in Mukono County, Uganda.

Engineering2EmpowerIn Haiti, Notre Dame faculty and students facilitate access to safe, dignified housing by seeding an integrated process that empowers entrepreneurs to deliver engineered urban housing in the free market within informal economies.

PartnershipsNDIGD works on implementation and evaluation for a variety of partners, including government agencies, NGOs, humanitarian organizations, foundations, and others in the United States and overseas.

Corporate Impact Program NDIGD places a high value on our corporate collaborations, and we have created the Impact Program for corporations and foundations who support projects at the level of $50,000 or above (or $25,000 in unrestricted gifts) annually. Impact members benefit by gaining access to talent both at Notre Dame and in country; training on business ethics; insight on overcoming challenges by sharing best practices and lessons learned; and networking with university experts, NGOs, and federal agencies in designing new corporate responsibility projects.

Private DonationsMany NDIGD projects are able to be supported by private donations. In addition to project-specific funding, the University seeks multiple endowments for excellence to support outreach, public events, and publications, as well as other critical Initiative priorities.
