  • 'President’s report – If it’s time for the children to go back to school, that means that summer is wrapping up and soon the leaves will be turning colors and falling….oh, wait…that’s already happening! The leaves are turning brown and falling because everything is so scorched from the numerous 90° days we’ve had with no rain! Hopefully, we will have a nice fall. It is a favorite season of mine due to all of nature’s natural color, and who doesn’t like pumpkins, gourds, scarecrows and raking leaves! See you at our October meeting. Fran Deah, President for now, [email protected]

Thank you to Elaine Walker and Viki Sherman for teaching at the August meeting. Their projects classes were very much appreciated and enjoyed. Thank you also to the students who signed up and were conscientious about social distancing and wearing masks.

For October, we have Grace Fatchet and Mollie McKay teaching winter projects. Grace will be teaching “Trees” on a pillowcase and Mollie will be teaching “Snowman” on a metal double coffee pot. Be sure to register and pay by September 19 to assure your spot. The registration form can be found on the last page of this newsletter and on our web site.

December Make it -Take it… We need 4-6 teachers to teach projects for this year’s class. Please consider teaching & contact Linda Lineman to sign up. • Retreat 2021 Our upcoming retreat, A Painting Fiesta, will be in April, 2021, with the exact dates to be determined. We are excited to be looking into holding it next year at

the beautiful campus of the Crestfield Camp and Conference Center in Slippery Rock. Crestfield has a large room for our classes in addition to rooms for people to stay while attending- a true retreat center. Check it out at http://crestfieldcc.org/. We are hopeful that we can schedule at Crestfield.

Rosie Fallecker [email protected] and Fran Deah [email protected], 2021 Retreat Chairs

PLEASE NOTE: You must wear a mask and practice social distancing at the meetings. If you are unable to wear a mask for that length of time, we respectfully ask you to wait until meetings are back to normal. We have members with medical issues that could put them at risk if we do not all practice safety measures. Thank you for your understanding. Show the Love. Cover up for safety.

There are currently 50 paid members. We had 23 members who attended the August meeting and had one guest- Karen Yenick came back to paint with us! If you need to pay your dues for this year, go to our web page and click on the Membership tab. If you aren’t sure if you paid, check with Viki. We hope to see you soon. Your treasurer would like to report that our taxes have been filed and accepted and the books have been audited and all is right in our financial world.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued support of VOICe, the only support organization for victims of violence and crime. We had many beautiful painted tote bags returned at the meeting. I have everything packed up and ready to go to VOICe on the 26th of August. We had $47 donated, and I rounded it up to $50 and bought half body wash and half shampoo and cream rinse. Along with your donations and our painted bags, we have a very impressive donation for them. They say the rate of domestic violence has increased during this quarantine, so our support is especially appreciated. Look for more information in upcoming newsletters about other projects we will be doing to serve our community. Again, thank you for all that you do. (If you have painted bags to be turned in, please bring them in October.) Carol Sexton and Donna Michael, Service Chairs [email protected]

Please Step Up! We may have had to cancel several of our planned events, but your TCDP officers are still holding things together and planning for the year ahead. We would really like for you to take a part in that planning by taking a slot on our slate of officers for 2021. We seriously need someone to step up as President and as Recording Secretary, as Fran and Marilou have been in office for many years. If you are wary of taking on a new job, think about doing it with a friend. Don’t wait for someone

to call you- please be proactive for our club. Please contact Linda, [email protected] or 814-671-6502, if you are able to contribute to your club. Linda Lineman, Nominating Chair

Sadly, the Basket Luncheon has had to be canceled, but we are looking forward to having it again next year. While you are staying home painting, think of us and paint a few door prizes. The guests each get a door prize, so we need a lot of them! Vickie Kennedy will be happy to accept your beautiful work at any of the upcoming meetings.

–The Carol Hoffman seminar held in July was a success. I wish to thank everyone who attended and for the help and patience they had with me There are no future plans for a seminar due to COVID-19. I do have

several people to contact for the future. We will hope to be able to paint with a traveling teacher soon. Wendy Cornman, Seminar Chair

  • Check out some online videos for classes and projects while you are social distancing. During the pandemic, teachers found that offering online classes and tutorials was easy for them and appreciated by us students. So why not look for some classes that you can do while in the comfort of your own home? Are you getting a little bit of cabin fever? Looking for something different to do? Would you like to practice your painting or learn some new techniques from the comfort of your home? Many of our favorite artists are offering free classes online during the pandemic!

➢ Chris Haughey has been one of the many artists giving free lessons online! She has several free patterns and is also demonstrating some of her projects on Facebook. Go to https://www.cdwood.com/collections/free-e-patterns for 28 free patterns!

➢ Tracy Moreau is teaching a new project on YouTube every Saturday! Just go to Youtube.com and search for her name.

➢ Several teachers are teaching in a Facebook group called CREATIVE INNOVATIONS in PAINTING. You can join the group or let me know and I will invite you into the group. Her most recent project is “Tuscan Flowers.”

➢ Debbie Cole is also teaching in the CREATIVE INNOVATIONS in PAINTING Facebook group. She has the cutest gnomes. I got a free scarecrow packet from Laurie Speltz there, too.

➢ Donna Dewberry is also teaching free classes in that group. ➢ Some teachers will sell you an e-packet (just download it) and then you can paint with them in

a video. Not everyone can see the videos, just those who purchase the e-packets. ➢ Deb Antonick also has some free patterns at www.paintingwithdeb.com ➢ www.plumpurdy.com has several wonderful and free Reneé Mullins designs. ➢ Also on YouTube is Patricia Rawlinson with some beautiful free patterns and videos. I’m

definitely checking this one out. Thanks, Carol Sexton, for these two suggestions. And for the next one.

➢ Also on YouTube is Wow Art, where the artist puts some dobs of paint on a canvas and makes a beautiful painting. The bougainvillea one is lovely. It’s fun to watch.

➢ Louise Jackson teaches some free projects online including this one on painting tulips in watercolor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KV7mqQLKtt4 She also has one on painting waterdrops in watercolor and blending with watercolor.

➢ Lydiasteeves.com has Lydia sharing some free colored pencil classes, including this one on basics for colored pencils at https://tinyurl.com/y9n75e6w . She has one on Beginner Basics 2 and others.

➢ Debbie Cole is also sharing free classes on YouTube. Just search for DebbieColeDesigns. Here’s a link to one she did on painting realistic water drops in acrylics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O2EB6XuaGs She has a video on painting birch trees, on floating techniques, and painting realistic fur.

➢ Do you like gnomes? See Sandy LeFlore demonstrate painting her design in this free tutorial at https://tinyurl.com/yd4vqtfa

➢ There’s a great free tutorial on upcycling old silver plated pieces. ➢ Just go to YouTube.com, type in decorative painting in the search box, and see what you find.

Or type in the medium you want- acrylic, colored pencil, etc. ➢ Many teachers sell e-packets. These are pattern packets that you purchase and download to

your own computer. You can then print them out and start painting! Some of the e-packets include access to videos, just like being in class with the teacher.

➢ Some teachers offer online classes that you can purchase, too.

Remember that when you watch the videos online, you can pause them at any time. Watch the teacher demonstrate, pause, do the steps yourself, restart. Thanks to dailyarthub.com and clipart-library.com for their free clip art this month.

Next year we expect to be at Camp Crestfield, near Slippery Rock, which is a nice, fully contained locale. Fran is trying to book it. Retreat Treasurer (non-voting), Jennifer Calvin and Fran Deah, co-chairs, presented a Retreat balance after costs incurred for the printing and mailing of the retreat booklets.
