Please dont see the word contentment and gloss over this arcle thinking this is a big guilt trip about being thankful for what you have. I know contentment is a result of being thankful for who you are, where you are, who you have, and what you have. But being thankful isnt the starng point of contentment. Being content is NOT just the result of willful gratude on your part, but a peaceful and powerful acceptance of the reality that you are significant in Gods eyes. See, the old lady in the story told her daughter that she didnt need anything for Christmas. She was content with all she had. She was content with who she was. She was content with how she had spent her life. The daughter looked at her own frazzled life and wondered where this serenity came from that she saw in her mother. The daughters conclusion was that the peaceful contentedness her mother had came from 1) her personal walk with God, 2) her strength of character, and more surprisingly, 3) the belief that she was significant. The thought hit me sideways. This lady was perfectly content partly because of her belief that she was significant. She believed she was loved and cherished by God, by her husband, by her family and friends. This made her important - not in a prideful way - its just reality. Jesus died and rose again for her salvaon. She has a role to fill, giſts to use in service to others, energy to spend, resources to give, and she is also the unashamed receiver of these things from others because they love her. She gives freely. She receives unapologecally. She has value. She isnt someone who is merely tolerated. She doesnt see herself as a lifeless burden, always apologizing for being alive. She is loved. She is significant. She is thankful for this. And this truth brings her great peace and contentment. I wonder if the reason for so much of our anxiety, worry, fear, or even pride is not so much that we are ungrateful, although that could be a problem for some. I wonder if our deeper need is to humbly and cheerfully accept the fact that, because of Christ, we have significance. Our Mission: Know, Grow, Go

I just read a story about contentment that had an unexpected ending.

Please don’t see the word contentment and gloss over this article thinking this is a big guilt trip about being thankful for what you have. I know contentment is a result of being thankful for who you are, where you are, who you have, and what you have. But being thankful isn’t the starting point of contentment. Being content is NOT just the result of willful gratitude on your part, but a peaceful and powerful acceptance of the reality that you are significant in God’s eyes.

See, the old lady in the story told her daughter that she didn’t need anything for Christmas. She was content with all she had. She was content with who she was. She was content with how she had spent her life. The daughter looked at her own frazzled life and wondered where this serenity came from that she saw in her mother. The daughter’s conclusion was that the peaceful contentedness her mother had came from 1) her personal walk with God, 2) her strength of character, and more surprisingly, 3) the belief that she was significant.

The thought hit me sideways. This lady was perfectly content partly because of her belief that she was significant. She believed she was loved and cherished by God, by her husband, by her family and friends. This made her important - not in a prideful way - it’s just reality. Jesus died and rose again for her salvation. She has a role to fill, gifts to use in service to others, energy to spend, resources to give, and she is also the unashamed receiver of these things from others because they love her. She gives freely. She receives unapologetically. She has value. She isn’t someone who is merely tolerated. She doesn’t see herself as a lifeless burden, always apologizing for being alive.

Hidden Haven Christian Camp Update This summer GCC had 37 kids at camp. All the weeks combined

raised $4500 for the mission. Great job kids!

What GCC kids are saying about camp: --“I had a great time at camp learning about God and it was cool seeing

people change during the week.” Payton S.

--I liked “making flags in our groups” Brayden Y.

--“I had a really good time at camp, one of my favorite things about it was the chapel time. We got to worship and then have a church service built for kids. It was great!” Wyatt S.

-- “The food was good and I had fun at the pool. A few groups joined to make shapes with pool

noodles.” Ethan Y.

--“Church camp opened my eyes to the unexpected ways God works in our lives and to things I

needed to change in my life. The worship was powerful and I loved praising Jesus with everyone.

It also helped me grow closer to the friends I have already and helped me make some more! It

was an awesome experience and I have so many memories I will cherish because of Hidden Haven Christian Camp.” Brianna K

--“The band there was great, I loved their food, made lots of friends and learned a lot about God.

It was all outstanding!” Hayden S.

-- “I had fun with their nature trail and fishing. I enjoyed using the boats and kayaks.” Trevor Y.

--“It was great!! I loved swimming and making lots of friends.” Haleigh W.

Thanks so much to all of you who have given

to offset the cost of camp for our students!

You are making a kingdom difference! We

are still gathering offerings to cover 1/2

tuition. If you would like to give, put it in the

Sunday School offering can, or mark it on

your check and put in the offering during the

worship service.
