Christmas-Thank You Notes
I want to thank, the OLV Dads’ club and all our parishioners who came to help on the different Saturdays, for their hard work to make the buildings on our property beautiful for the Christmas Season. The decorations, both outside and inside the Church, are beautiful. We appreciate all the hours of work that went into making everything reflect not only the wonder of what we celebrate as a c o m m u n i t y o f f a i t h beautiful to look at but also an opportunity to reflect what the true meaning of this great Feast of Christmas is to u s a s C a t h o l i c Christians. Thank You! No celebration is complete without the voices of so many people in our parish who share with us their gift of music. Thank you to the adult and children’s choir, our cantors, and the additional musicians who accompanied Tim Johnson, at the 10:30 p.m. Mass. We are especially grateful for Kathy Sanderson who oversees all of the music in our parish, not just at Christmas but throughout the entire year. The liturgical celebration of Christmas needs the ministry of many different groups, so we extend a thank you to the Eucharistic Ministers, the Lectors, the Altar Servers and the Ushers for helping to make all the different Masses run smoothly.

Civic Concern Food Drive
The targeted items for the month of January are: canned fruit, canned meat, cereal, laundry detergent (64 ounces).
Remember that paper products can not be purchased with the Bridge cards so kleenex boxes, paper towels, napkins and toilet paper are always in demand. There is a designated bin by the stairwell leading to the Fr. Ernie Center for the items.
St. Christine’s Food Pantry Gang
For the month of January, we will only be collecting cans of soup, cans of stew, and boxes of macaroni and cheese. Please help us to continue to feed the hungry. Place all donated items in the designated bin near the stairwell leading to the Father Ernie Center. At the end of the month we will be delivering the items to St. Christine’s. Anyone wishing to help serve by dropping off donated items to St. Christine’s can contact the C h r i s t i a n S e r v i c e O f f i c e t o m a k e arrangements.
OUR LADY OF VICTORY PAGE 6 WWW.OLVNORTHVILLE.ORG
Many households have already put away their Christmas decorations. The Church however, has more to say about this wonderful season as we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany.
The Epiphany is a story that is well known to all. It is so familiar that we can at times miss the fullness of what it is meant to tell us. In Matthew's account, we hear of a star in the heavens that shines brightly illuminating the way for the Magi or wisemen who come bearing gifts from
afar as they seek the child king. It also brings with it the intrigue and threats that one day would be realized.
These rich images stand in sharp contrast to the simple cave in which Jesus laid and sets the stage for Matthew's readers that this King was to be different. He, unlike others, would welcome the sinner—those in need of healing and the many who were cast aside and ignored. He would be different than other Kings as his kingdom would welcome all who wish to be saved; Gentile or Jew, rich or poor. Most importantly, the story sets the stage for the irony of Jesus the King, who as the son of God, would die an inglorious death on the cross.
Through this telling we are invited by the Evangelist Matthew to step back and be drawn into the magic and mystery of the whole Christmas story and use it as a lens from which to learn of the life of Jesus, who he is and what he promises to each of us. For he is our light and will guide us along life's pathways as a friend on the journey. He is there for us in our darkest moments, no matter how far we may stray or ignore his invitation to come to his heart. He is a King who would never hide himself or betray his love.
If you are a family with younger children help them to enact the story of the Epiphany. Costumes can be a simple crown on the head, a towel for a cape and objects that could represent the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Let them wonder at the thought of a bright star that shown in the heavens and finding the baby Jesus in the manger. Ask them to imagine how Mary and Joseph would have pondered this visit and what did the Magi told others when they returned to their homeland. Ask them how the Epiphany invites them to learn more about who Jesus is and how can they tell others.
Whether you are a family with young children, older children or empty nesters plan on blessing your home on this day. Using chalk trace on the lintel or some other surface of the entryway to your house these numbers and letters 20 + C + M + B + 17 (C is for Christus, M is Mansionem and B for Benedictat, 'May Christ Bless the house.') while saying "The three Wisemen, Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar followed the star of God's Son who became human Two thousand and fifteen years ago. May Christ bless our home and remain with us throughout the new year. Amen" (www.carmelites.net)
Then offer the following prayer from the Carmelites "Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of you; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Jesus
Christ, now and forever. Amen. "Celebrate the Epiphany this weekend and give thanks for the
presence and blessings of God in our lives.

Discovering Your Gifts Charism Workshop Invited † Empowered † Sent Forth
Have you ever wondered… • How can I live a fulfilled and joy-filled life? • Am I living to my fullest potential? • What is God’s plan for me and how do I know that I am on the right path?
Attend OLV’s workshop to explore the answers to these questions and more!
Join us Wednesday evenings for this 5-week session: January 18, and 25, February 1, 8, and 15, 7:00–9:00 p.m.
We will uncover how God has uniquely gifted you to live out your call to holiness, find happiness, lead a fulfilling life, and go deeper in your relationship with Jesus. During the sessions, you will learn how both your spiritual gifts given in baptism (charisms) and natural talents are discerned, activated and exercised through ministry, career, volunteer opportunities, and relationships with others. We will also delve into learning how to pray deeply to be able to discern wisely.
The workshops will be presented by Judy Maten and Mary Garlow of Via Maria Consulting, LLC. The cost is $30 for the five week workshop. All materials will be provided.
Register by calling the office with your name, phone number and email address.
