Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings Sunday

June 11, 2017 First reading: Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9 Second reading: Corinthians 13:11-13 Gospel: John 3:16-18 A reading from the Book of Exodus Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai as the LORD had commanded him, taking along the two stone tablets. Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with Moses there and proclaimed his name, "LORD." Thus the LORD passed before him and cried out, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity." Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship. Then he said, "If I find favor with you, O LORD, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own." A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the holy ones greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to John God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

CONFIRMATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY

The Confirmation Preparation Program is for high school level students. The high school program is a two-year journey involving monthly sessions, retreats, and service projects.

Religious Education Office Pentecost Sunday June 4, 2017 Sunday’s Gospel, John 20:19-23 Reflecting in God’s Word This reading is like the person who got tired of hearing the same excuse: "I'm too busy." We all are given the same 24 hours each day and each one of us chooses how to spend them. Of course we have responsibilities and there are probably things we would rather do, but even so, we determine how we will fill our time. It is the same with gifts. Through the Spirit we are all given gifts and it is up to us how and for whom we will use them. It is our diversity that binds us together as children of God, each one of us using our gifts for the good of all. Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family Sketch a simple figure of a body and call it by your family name. Label parts of the body such as ears, eyes, hands, feet, etc. and consider which members of the family are those parts of the whole body. For example, who is a good listener? Whose eyes are good a finding lost items? Who helps out at home doing extra chores, and who walks the dog? Certainly more than one person can claim a part. When you are finished, you will marvel at how many gifts you have together as a family. Question of the Week Children: How would Jesus want you to treat your family and friends this week? Adults: What important work does Jesus ask of you at this time in your life? Pregunta de la semana Niños: ¿Como querria Jesús que trataras a tu familia y amigos esta semana? Adultos:¿Que tarea importante te pide Jesús este momento en tu vida?

DID YOU KNOW?

Use creative problem solving to help protect kids Often, there are many ways to solve a problem, and many possible solutions. If you teach your children to problem solve creatively, and think outside the box when they are faced with a challenge, this can help them formulate problem-solving skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. By using creative problem solving methods, parents and children can brainstorm new ideas to protect kids from stranger danger, abuse, violence, and the other risks present in the world. Discuss possible solutions and highlight common themes to help your children develop strategies for staying safe. For a copy of the VIRTUS© article “Creative Problem Solving--How Can It Help?” email [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.

PRIEST RETIREMENT FUND Bless Those Who Bless You

Next weekend marks the annual invitation for each of us to contribute to the Priest Retirement Fund for our priests in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. At all of our Masses next week we will ask that you and your families consider making a gift to this vital appeal. The fund is currently providing 149 priests in our Archdiocese a monthly stipend for living and medical expenses so they may live humbly and with dignity in their retirement. All gifts are invested in the pension fund to be used exclusively to support our priests. You may have received a letter asking you to renew your gift this year. I encourage you to complete that pledge card and mail it at your convenience. You can also make a gift online at PRFLA.ORG. We will also have pledge envelopes available next weekend for you to make a gift. You can learn more about the Priest Retirement Fund on the handout included in this week’s bulletin.
