What Christians Should Know about the Coronavirus

What is the Coronavirus? The disease being talked about is technically a new strain of coronavirus. Coronaviruses are common throughout the world, and scientists have discovered seven different coronaviruses that can infect people and make them sick. Where Did the Virus Come From? It is believed that that virus spread from wildlife to people at a so-called “wet market” in Wuhan, China. A “wet market” is one where vendors sell meat and live animals.

How is the Virus Transmitted? The virus is likely most commonly spread from an infected person to others through the air by coughing or sneezing, and through close personal contact. What are the Symptoms? Fever, cough and shortness of breath, ranging from mild to severe. What is the Prevention & Treatment of this Virus?

Currently, there is no vaccine for this strain. The best prevention is to avoid exposure to someone who has been infected. What is the Danger to Americans? According to the Centers for Disease Control (as of February 27), the current immediate risk to the general American public is considered low. How Should Christians Respond to the Coronavirus? Some of us are inherently inclined to downplay the severity of public-health threats. We’ll reason that we’ve seen these scares before. Others are inclined toward catastrophizing the threat, believing a situation to be far worse than is warranted by the evidence. We should recognize our own dispositions and acknowledge that others may differ. At the same time, we must be consistently biblical: God is sovereign over illness and suffering, and we serve the one who casts out all fear (I John 4:18).

SENIOR HIGH GAME NIGHT The Senior High Game Night was a huge success! It was held on Sunday, February 15th, from 6:00—10:00 PM. The evening started off with walking tacos and fellowship, followed by several rounds of 9 Square in the Air. The kids could play that game for hours if we let them! Mike Poggensee divided the kids into small groups and had them piece together “The Global Thread Through the Bible” by attempting to put Bible verses into chronological order. That set the stage for Mike to talk about mission opportunities and unreached people groups. It was very informative and inspiring! After that, the night was finished off with relay races and glow-in-the-dark dodgeball! Mike Poggensee did a wonderful job planning and directing the night’s activities. Other leaders includ-ed: Cayley Poggensee, April French, Ethan Williams, John Peck, Don Klitgaard, and Laurel Klittgard.

We would like to thank everyone for all the birthday cards Marna received for her 80th birthday! Reading through them and see-ing how much she is loved has been such a

    blessing to her!

PRAISE TEAM OPPORTUNITY We are currently looking for someone who is willing to sing harmony in the Contemporary Ser-vice praise team! We are specifically hoping for a female voice, so if you are a woman who sings harmony, please contact me at: (712)579-0418 to let me know of your interest!

    - Edie Shetler

Thank You Notes……. If you have noticed the absolutely FABULOUS painting transformation that has over-

taken the church, be sure to stop Edie Shetler and give her a big thank you!

She has been working tirelessly over the past several weeks to freshen up our church

with a new coat of paint.

Sally Hawn, Joel and Karla Berndt, and Larry Trickel helped with some of the painting as well, and Mike Poggensee, Dan Poggensee, Ken Shetler and Nick Mu-sich helped with the set-up and take-down of the supporting equipment used in paint-

    ing near the ceiling.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work and fabulous results! We are so blessed to have members of our church family who are so eager and willing to volunteer their

time and talent for the sake of the church!

    - April French, Office Manager

This is just a friendly reminder that from time to time we find misplaced items around the church. Gloves, thermoses, and Bibles are just some of the items that are being collected. I would en-courage everyone to please check the shelf in the downstairs hallway by the elevator to be sure any missing items are returned to their rightful owners.
