Computers for Golden Agers

Our Golden Agers class is specifically designed for adults age 50+. Join us for a ride on the technology “bandwagon” to learn some basic software skills using Windows 10. We’ll explore the internet, set up an email account, play with social media and merge information for labels or letters in this fun class! Class meets twice a week for four weeks—a total of 14 hours of computer fun!

Yoga Reduce stress, tone, and strengthen muscles while you relax. These classes will consist of meditation, breathing, warms-ups, yoga postures, and then end with a deep relaxation session. Six week class.

Dog Obedience

Man’s best friend will experience socialization with other dogs, people, and distracting activities. Using positive reinforcement your furry friend will learn to sit, get down, stay, come, leave it, take it, wait, eye contact and loose-leash walking. Proof of vaccination is required at the first night. Please bring your furry friend on a solid leash (not retractable.) Six week class.

West Michigan Folk Music Club

Please join us for an organization meeting of the West Michigan Folk Music Club on Thursday, May 19, at 6:00pm in the Conference Room at Orchard View Community Ed.

This group is being organized to provide singers and musicians the opportunity to gather and rehearse traditional folk music. The objective of the group is to perform two to three concerts a year in a public venue.

We offer a variety of career building computer classes including: Introduction to Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PC/Window 10.

Cost per class: $167 includes textbook.

Career Building

MEDICAL OFFICE—TERMINOLOGY: Learn the prefix-es, suffixes, root words, and how to combine forms necessary in the medical profession. Work on word building, spelling, definition, and pronunciation of medical terms.

MEDICAL OFFICE—CODING: Learn how to use the CPT manual and the ICD-9-CM to find medical codes for any disease, condition, treatment, or surgical procedure. Prereq: Basic understanding of PC, Medical Terminology.

MEDICAL OFFICE—CLAIMS PROCESSING: Basic knowledge and understanding of the medical insurance billing process, familiarity with insurance billing forms, rules and reg-ulations on filing claims. Introduction to different types of insurance. Prereq: Medical Terminology, Medical Coding (required for Coders and Billers).

Cost per class: $147 tuition + $90 book = $237

Jelly Roll Quilting

Wet on Wet Painting

No experience or talent required! Paint a complete professional oil painting in one night! Learn how to paint the “Wet-on-Wet” method popularized by Bob Ross and other television artists. Our experienced instructor, Pauline Stitt, will lead you step-by-step through this technique that makes it easy and fun to create your own masterpiece in one evening! Oil paints, canvas, and easel will be provided. Student will need to supply own brushes or they can be purchased from the instructor on the night of class.

Class held on Tuesday evening from 6:00-9:00p. Each class is $42. A sample of the painting is on display in the Community Education office during the month of the class.

Instructor, Pauline Stitt, is an accomplished painter. She has taught painting classes for Community Education for many years.

Improving your Photography

Improving your Photography is taught by Mary Aten who is a Muskegon resident and has a teaching degree, as well as, a photo editing certificate/associates degree. Mary can be found on most Saturdays selling her work in the Muskegon Farmer’s Market. She has held several exhibitions and has been selected as the National Park System’s Artist in Residence for September 2016 at Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area. You can see more of Mary’s work at www.atenphoto.com. Class is designed for students with a digital SLR camera or those who are considering the purchase of one (DSLR - camera with interchangeable lenses.) Class will include Power Point presentations of concepts, demonstrations, and time for discussions (Q&A.) Students can take one or all classes in the 5 class series. Price: 5 class series: $125 OR $37 for an individual class within a series.

Class 3 - Lighthouses, waves and sunsets - Photo Walk Class Students will meet at Muskegon State Park with their cameras for discussion/demonstration on ways to improve photo composition and technique for wave and sunset photos Students will practice techniques and take their own pictures

Class 4 - Editing Programs - (Demonstrations) Editing software – what it can do for you (free and professional software) Demonstration on how to improve photos with software and where to find it

Class 5 - Beyond the Basics Panorama and HDR (High Dynamic Range) – discussion/demonstration Printing and exporting / more learning resources
