Gary Kraftsow Yoga Therapy for Emotional Health: Focus on Anxiety and Depression Monday, Oct. 6 – Friday, Oct. 10 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, daily MPLS $650Emotional health is fundamental to the maintenance of overall health and well-being. The ancient sages understood emotion as a complex interaction between mood, cognitive processes, behavior and physiological responses. Master teacher Gary Kraftsow presents these teachings in contemporary language so that the wisdom and practices of yoga can be employed to reduce suffering and cultivate higher human potential. During this week with Gary, you will:• Explore models of integrated personality

that emerge from Vedic teachings.• Discover how the science of pranayama, mantra,

and meditation can be applied for emotional healing.• Learn to recognize the direct influence that thoughts

and emotions have on our biochemistry.

WELCOMEEvery Body is a Yoga Body! Our visual culture seems to suggest, these days, that a limited few types of bodies are properly suited for the practice of yoga. But no matter your age, shape or size, every body has physical challenges to meet on the mat, and every body can have a fulfilling yoga practice.

I believe that feeling comfortable in your own skin is a much more important result of asana practice than being able to touch your toes or stand on your head. Yoga is not ‘one size fits all:’ there are as many styles, practices, variations and modifications of asana as there are diverse bodies in the studio. When you work with a teacher to find what works best for your body you can feel steady, comfortable and strong.

BEGINNING YOGA CLASS SERIES

New to yoga? The Absolute Beginner Class Series is designed for you.

Absolute Beginner Class (4-Week Series $50)The ABC Series provides an inviting setting to begin your yoga journey. We’ll guide you through basic techniques and poses to help you feel comfortable with your emerging practice. Each student is unique and explores yoga for different reasons. Therefore, at the end of the series, you and your instructor will review your personal goals and choose which classes to take next.

Already taken the ABC Series and ready to explore different styles of yoga? Consider the following class series:

Beginning Hatha Yoga (6-Week Series $90)This series is designed for beginners or anyone wishing to deepen their knowledge of Hatha Yoga. Hatha-based classes generally involve holding postures for a period of time, allowing a deeper focus of breath and alignment. Learn how to explore postures within your individual capacity while strengthening your body and expanding your range of movement. By the end of the series, you'll be ready for Level I and 2 Drop-In classes.

Beginning Vinyasa Yoga (6-Week Series $90)Vinyasa is a steady flow of yoga poses linked with breath. This style of yoga creates moving meditation and builds heat in the body. Learn Sun Salutations in depth, and explore alignment and modifications for standing and seated sequences. Upon completion of the series, you’ll have the foundation to attend mixed-level Vinyasa classes.

Beginning Big A#%! Yoga (6-Week Series $90)This fun, inspiring series is designed for bigger men and women who want to practice yoga in a setting where everyone is similar in size and shape. We call it Big A#%! Yoga so everyone knows they're coming to a place where they can laugh and be comfortable with themselves. The class does not focus on losing weight. Instead, it helps build trust and teaches you to reconnect with your body. See website for details and an important note regarding physical limitations.

Classes have a limited number of students to ensure a quality experience.Did You Know?Beginning classes set the foundation for your practice. If you start higher-level classes right away, you may miss some key elements in your yoga practice.

If classes are not full, drop-ins are welcome. Call or check the online drop-in schedule for availability. See the website for changes and updates.

WORKSHOPS WORKSHOPS

NOVEMBERHip Stabilizers with Deirdre Murnane Sat 11/1 1:30 – 3:30 pm SLP $40We are all familiar with hip openers in yoga. Everyone wants supple and open hips but the fact is that the deep hip muscles need to be strong in order for us to balance and maintain proper alignment. Focusing too much on opening the hips can cause instability. The good news is that strengthening these muscles doesn’t make your hips tighter! They just get stronger and more stable so you can continue to open the hips safely. In this workshop you’ll learn some simple exercises to strengthen these deep muscles and learn how to utilize this strength in your practice.

Pranayama and the Bandhas with Susan Meyer Sat 11/1 1:30 – 3:30 pm SLP $40Learn the simplest and most powerful techniques for improving your health and well being through pranayama, or conscious breathing. Exploring Tensegrity in the Body with Deirdre Murnane Sat 11/8 1:30 – 3:30 pm SLP $40We now know that our body is not made up of separate joints and muscles that work independently of each other but is a whole network of connective tissue with pockets of muscle and bone that work in tandem. Using imagery we can create actions in the body that maximize this tensegrity (tension with integrity) to bring ultimate balance and ease to our movement. We are the operators (puppeteers, if you will) of the most amazing structures of engineering imaginable. Let’s take full advantage of what we have and play!

Yoga and Acupuncture for Runners and Bicyclists with Ted Roseen and Jennifer Johnson Sat 11/8 1:30 – 3:30 pm SLP $40Although we love to push ourselves to find more endurance and strength through activities like biking and running, these repetitive motion activities can often take their toll on muscles, tendons and skeletons without our being aware. Join Ted—Distance runner extraordinaire!—as he helps guide you through yoga techniques to give you flexibility, stability, and alignment to improve your favorite athletic past-times.

Magical Mudras with Coleen ElwoodSat 11/8 1:30 – 3:30 pm SLP $40In India hand gestures were named MUDRA and thought to deepen communication with the Divine. Working with the nadis (energy channels) and nerve centers in the brain, these mudras can be done sitting, standing, walking or laying down. Meditations and mudra for stress relief, cultivating intuition, developing trust and navigating change will be included in this afternoon.

With more time than a normal drop-in class, you’ll have ample time to get a feel for what this voice has to say and how to discern it.

Align Your Vinyasa with Susan Meyer Sat 11/15 1:30 – 3:30 pm SLP $55Interested in ramping up your vinyasa practice a notch? Feeling stuck with no help in sight?
