ARTWORK OF THE WEEK Jason Xue, Year 10

Jason produced this drawing from observation, on the trip to Broomhill Sculpture Park last week. We were impressed by his use of tone, which supports the 3D shape. We were also impressed by Jason’s hard work during the whole day at Broomhill and his mature attitude for learning.

Well done Jason!

TS HEADS UP ON... HOUSE SINGINGIn Week 7 one of the most eagerly anticipated events

of the year will unfold: House Singing. To the neutral observer, the idea of stopping lessons for a day to enable the school to run a singing competition may appear faintly ridiculous but the benefits, both immediate and in the longer term, are clear and very important. The most important thing we do at School is generate a love of learning through inspirational teaching which is seen in the exam results the students generate each year. However, the path to exam success is not as easy to map out and sometimes the crucial and positive correlating factors are assimilated through a range of experiences. Success in school and beyond school is undoubtedly linked to academic success but increasingly the qualities of resilience, team work and creativity are seen as equally (if not more) important in a changing world. Taunton School is proud of its culture in which challenge is demanded of students and staff alike but the inevitable consequence of challenge is that students will fail, they will have to deal with adversity and this may happen on a daily basis. This is why the

House system is so integral and helps to nurture young people through these disappointments to help them come through as more determined, more resilient and more understanding of how they can achieve. House Singing is therefore an incredible vehicle through which house spirit is engendered and the vital bonds of friendship and togetherness between all year groups is formed. In turn, there is nothing more powerful than a strong role model and for younger students to feel part of something akin to family life in which older ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ are there to care and look out for one another is an essential part of how young people not only develop the necessary qualities for success but ultimately are more able to take on the key challenge: a successful academic programme.

Ed Burnett, Deputy Head

Old Tauntonian Edward Bluemel is coming back to his old alma mater to talk about his experience while at Royal Welsh School of Music and Drama and the jobs he has had since graduating from there. The drama scholars and other interested pupils are eagerly waiting for the knowledge and insight that Edward can give them, having worked on both professional TV shows and professional

theatre productions. Most notably he has recently been on the ITV show, 'The Halcyon', a show emulating the same engaging upstairs-downstairs, family drama feel first made popular by 'Downton Abbey'. Edward plays the son of the wealthy owner of the Halcyon hotel, and has to negotiate both the ups and downs of the Second World War and a new, forbidden romance with Adil, the head cocktail waiter of the

hotel bar. Edward continues to have success on the screen, with his latest film 'Access All Areas' coming out at the end of this month. He has also had success on the stage, most notably in a production of 'Love in Idleness', directed by the legendary director Trevor Nunn, which he continues to work on as it transfers to the West End. The drama department cannot wait to welcome Edward back to Taunton!

PHYSICAL PHOTOGRAPHY GEOGRAPHY - RUNNERS UP

This Wednesday the MFL department organised our first Year 13 French debate, competing against King’s College and Wellington School. The debates were challenging but reflected the topics and depth of ideas required at A level and IB. Students needed to show

a wide range of vocabulary, grammar and accuracy as well as a thorough grasp of the issues discussed. The judges were made up of one teacher from each school with Mr Henderson being our Taunton School representative. Mr Brown chaired the debates and

encouraged the audience to get involved. Armand Capart asked a range of excellent and probing questions.

We were lucky enough to have two teams taking part. In the first debate Louis Large and Caitlyn Bryan opposed the motion: Le téléchargement

met en danger la créativité des individus et des artistes.

In the second debate Cameron Beck and Marius Avezou opposed La vidéosurveillance constitue une atteinte grave à la liberté de chacun d’aller et venir sans être surveillé.

The results were close and I was delighted that we had a win ! Louis and Caitlyn narrowly won their debate against King’s. In the second debate Wellington managed to beat us by four points. The students from all schools spoke extremely well and they had all prepared strong speeches. The speakers should all feel extremely proud of their fantastic achievements. We hope that all students who took part will be able to face their oral exams in May with a little more confidence! And we look forward to the Spanish debate in November.

The winner, Toby Squires, said "Although these mountains (pictured on the front page) still stand at an impressive 1472 metres, they were once a great deal taller and have been weathered away at a considerable rate over the years due to the basalt being susceptible to chemical weathering. Basalt is iron rich so oxidises rapidly in water and air; it's also worth noting the signs of biological weathering all over the mountain."

DRAWING AT BROOMHILL

The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’ said Shakespeare…. Well, Year 10 GCSE Fine Art students were blessed with the last blue skies of September when they visited Broomhill Sculpture Park last week. The trip was an opportunity for the students to see a variety of sculptures first-hand, in a rural setting. The students spent most of the day producing timed observational drawings

and learning how/why the sculptures were made. Their studies will help them to come up with their own designs for a sculpture inspired by Natural Forms, and encourage them to consider where the best surroundings would be for their own work of art.

HARVEST FESTIVAL 2017

It has been another wonderful Harvest Festival at Taunton School! In both the Prep/Pre-Prep Service and the Senior and International Services students and staff alike have given generously to support the wonderful work of Taunton Open Door, our local homeless charity.

There was much singing, from the Prep and Senior choirs, and all were reminded in the Chaplain's talk of the words of Jesus in Luke's gospel to "Watch out for all kinds of greed". "Generosity of Spirit", said Rev Dietz, "is the antidote to greed, and having an attitude

of gratitude towards God helps to ensure we all share what we have so generously been given".

The Pleistocene, the Holocene and the Anthropocene – what have they got in common but how are they distinct?

Well they are, of course, blocks of geological time called ‘epochs’ although the epoch we are currently in is distinct in nature as we have made it ourselves – we truly are living on a human planet in the age of man: the Anthropocene.

The Anthropocene serves as recognition as to the monumental impact that the human race has had on Earth; we have become a geophysical force to rival (if not beat) climatic and tectonic forces and geomorphic change.

When one peers through the microscope of our actions the impacts are laid bare – islands are sinking in oceans which are becoming more acidic, our forest coverage is shrinking whilst our deserts are on the march and our rivers are being constrained whilst our consumption goes on unchecked but is the indelible footprint that we are leaving such a bleak one or can we humans be a geophysical force for good?

Positive change is already happening and in some of the remotest places; artificial glaciers in the Himalayas and newly painted white mountains in the Andes slow down glacial retreat, artificial islands allow us to live on rising seas, our deserts are glowing silver with solar power and soon we’ll be able to grow our own coral reefs and plant our own artificial trees on a large scale.

In conclusion times are a changing (thanks to us) but not always for the worse. Our impact has made it into the DNA of our planet so we are going to have to adapt and thrive on an Earth which looks, and functions, very differently to how it currently is.

To be continued….

If you want to find out more about the Anthropocene come along to the Gaia Vince lecture on Wednesday 15th November at 6.30pm in the theatre entitled:

‘Entering the Anthropocene - How might we overcome some of the challenges that we face?’

Gaia Vince is a journalist and broadcaster specialising in Science and the Environment. In 2015 she was the first solo female winner of the prestigious Royal Society Winton prize for science books. She wrote ‘adventures in the Anthropocene’ and has written for The Guardian, The Times, International New York Times and Australian as well as editing journals such a ‘Nature’ and ‘New Scientist.’

AN AUTHROPOGENIC WORLD

Gaia Vince is coming Taunton School

On September 29th 8 pupils and 2 members of staff spent a total of 10 hours on a minibus trekking to Tottenham in North London for a 2 ½ hour workshop. Was it worth it? YES! Punchdrunk are an immersive theatre company who create worlds in which the audience can explore and interact in. Our workshop took place in an abandoned factory which had been turned into a village called Fallow Cross. We wandered through the mystical streets, exploring shops selling dolls and glasses, traipsed through the creepy, taxidermy-obsessed Mayors house and eerily authentic chapel. The workshop was run by one of the Punchdrunk actors, Adam, who led us through various physical exercises teaching us to harness our energy and control our presence when performing. Punchdrunk do not overuse language in their performances, so the idea of presence becomes more important to communicate the feelings and emotions of the characters that are created. The pupils created a series of movements that they then took into the village, finding a place to set their movements and see how that adapted these pieces into performances, whether it was a bar fight or a domestic argument. The students left tired and having learnt a lot of valuable skills from a truly inspiring afternoon!

DEPUTY HEADS OF SCHOOLTALK ABOUT EACH OTHER...

Known to most of the school community as Ned, to some as Benedict and only to Mr Burnett as Ben, Ned Travers joined Taunton School at the beginning of last year with his brother’s famous shoes to fill. Ned was previously at a local state school, perhaps where he picked up the skills that lead to him becoming the captain of the school’s 1st XI football team, something he’s very proud of. Known as “Dep Head Ned” around his house, Ned is known for his excellent mentor skills and has even managed to be crowned one

of the top five male effort grades in year thirteen.

An active member of the school community, last year Ned was involved in the most successful Young Enterprise that the school has ever seen, taking the local area by storm, winning the Somerset County Event with their Fusion branded bracelets that still grace the wrist of many a student.

Though he be but little, he has a big heart and a lot of time for Taunton School.

Ellie Smith

As she enters her 7th year as a student at Taunton and continues to dominate the academic, sporting and extra-curricular areas of the school, it came as no surprise to many when Ellie Smith was announced to be this year’s Deputy Head Girl. Her enthusiastic approach to all that she does (e.g. Cultural studies, Hockey, MUN, Lifeguarding, The Club, The Science Forum, Bridge, The Burke, CCF, Netball and the list goes on…and on) and motivation to persevere with the highly-demanding International Baccalaureate (IB) fully justifies her appointment into this new role.

Ellie’s outstanding time management is just one of the many traits she possesses that all of the prefects at Taunton School seem to envy- along with the ability to keep me quiet… occasionally; it’s a tough task.

However, many argue this is largely due to her worryingly high caffeine levels, with the majority of complaints coming from Woodyer as their supplies seemingly diminish whenever Ellie’s in the house. This is a true case of survival of the fittest.

Ellie and myself knew little about each other as we began this academic year but after just 4 weeks as deputies (and slaves of Josie and Patrick), I’m hopeful that, together, we’ll excel in assisting the promotion of the school and the improvement of its environment where possible.

CRICKET CHAMPS ‘STORM’ INTO SCHOOL

Taunton School pupils were lucky enough to get first hand coaching from women’s cricket champions Rachel Priest and Sophie Luff on Friday.

Western Storm wicket keeper Rachel and teammate Sophie spent the day working with girls from ages 9 to 16 in a series of training sessions.

They brought with them their impressive Kia Super League Trophy which

all pupils got a chance to see up close.

The Kia Super League (KSL) Finals Day was aired live

on Sky Sports on 1st September, and watched by millions in a tense and exciting atmosphere before Western Storm triumphed to victory.

Sophie, who is from Somerset and batted for the win in the final, commented: “It’s so fantastic to see girls having the opportunity to play cricket and train at their school. To have a direct link with Taunton School as sponsors of Western Storm has been great and we are delighted to be working with young players and hopefully inspiring them to aim high.”

Rachel, Western Storm centurion commented on winning the Kia Super League: “Last year we made the final and lost out to Southern Vipers. Our first game this year was against the same team and we lost again. It did set us back a bit, we had a few wobbles to start. To go on to beat the Vipers, on TV, in front of a brilliant crowd was really special. It was a big team effort, and I was really nervous watching Sophie (Luff) and Stafanie (Taylor) at the end but it was a fantastic to have a convincing finish.”

Taunton School, who is the key sponsor of Western Storm, established a partnership to inspire young people in the sport, especially girls, as women’s cricket grows in popularity.

SHOETASTIC COLLECTION

For 300 million children in the world (aged 3-19 years) walking with shoes is a rarity. Infections by parasites, such as hookworm, and injuries to their feet and ankles are common and many are not allowed to access education without shoes. In Woodyer girls boarding house we found at the end of term we all had lots of shoes that were no longer needed or wouldn’t fit in luggage home so we decided to do a collection and send them to people around the world who would really benefit from them. We discovered the charity Sal’s Shoes who collect children’s shoes and pass them on to their new owners in over 26 countries around the world. They sort by type and not size and collect all sorts of different shoes: flip flops, sandals, school shoes, slippers, trainers, winter boots and football boots and get them to those who have the most desperate and life impacting need. You can read more about the charity and the great work they do here - www.salsshoes.com

PHOTOGRAPHS A great group of students has volunteered to help out in the Carrington Library this year and they are speeding through their training course with enthusiasm and determination. Student Librarians are a huge asset to the Library during evenings and weekends when Library staff are not on duty. They wear a Library Leader badge

to show they are qualified to help other students find and borrow books, and work behind the Library desk when on duty.

Congratulations to those who have already earned their badge.

First to finish this year was Alexander Griffiths whose experience at his previous school library enabled him to complete the training booklet

With a variety of designated bike routes ranging in difficulty resulted in a challenging day for all. Throughout the course of the afternoon students were ably led on a number of routes around the forest, including the ‘Ridge Ride Trail’. This route is a technical, fast and flowing trail with tight corners and lively descents to test your reflexes – if you feel confident and are able to manage it! Back at the café there is a purpose built ‘skills area’ where you can test and improve your skills. Bumps and bends give you a feel for off-road cycling and how to handle the terrain. The students who came not only had a great, energetic day out, but were also tasked to try and experience challenges they may not have faced before – a great character building day enjoyed by all!

TAUNTON TRIO TAKE TO THE ROAD

FOR CHARITY

Taunton School’s Head of Cricket Development Marcus Trescothick has teamed up with Taunton School parents Gary Chaffey and Martin Houghton to undertake a 5 day cycle ride for the PCA Benevolent Fund.

The event starts with a Gala Dinner at Edgbaston on October 12th, followed by the 360 mile ride from Edgbaston Stadium, in Birmingham, to the SWALEC Stadium, in Cardiff. Their aim is to complete it by October 17th and raise £2,000.

The Benevolent Fund is part of the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s (PCA) commitment to helping former and current players and their dependants in times of hardship and upheaval, or to readjust to the world beyond the game. The ride is part of the PCA's 50th Birthday celebrations.

Gary said: “We are embarking on this challenging ride to raise awareness and support for this great charity that has helped many cricketers over the years. Although I have completed

a number of rides before I have not trained hard enough for this one and will find it a struggle. Your help is very much appreciated.”

MACMILLAN COFFEE

MORNINGOnce again the Weirfield

girls were more than happy to organise our annual Macmillan Coffee morning to raise money for the excellent work carried out by the charity. On Friday 29th September, following two busy nights of baking, we were able to offer a wide range of cakes, doughnuts and muffins. It was a lovely morning with lots of eager customers, both students and staff, and everyone seemed to enjoy not only their cakes but also the happy atmosphere we had in our kitchen. Macmillan Cancer Support provides medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as campaigning for better cancer care. At the end of the day we raised over an impressive £140 for the charity, beating last year’s total of £120. Thanks to everyone who came and supported our cake sale!

Annika Erdmann, House Prefect

A huge well done to the Prep and Senior School for raising a fantastic total of £420 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

RUGBY ROUND-UP1st XV Won 28pts-10

A good all round team performance with a good platform from the forwards and great finishes from the backs.

All the team contributed and showed improvements in aspects of their game.

Our first try came from some good scrum from the forwards before our captain Tommy Wyatt powered his body over the try line.

Will Perry linked well with his midfield partner and showed his speed by running a 30m try between the posts.

Fraser Johnson finished our third try by supporting Patrick Lee in the blind side. Our final try came from a new scrum

move starting by a good run from Toby Squires and a beautiful running line by Tommy Wyatt. His second try of the day.

The final score was 28-10. There were many positives to take away from the match however the rucking was our downside and we will be focussing on this at training.

Well done to our 1st XV who showed passion and determination!

Man of the Match: Joe Heybourne/Fraser Johnson.

Scorers: Tries: Thomas Wyatt (2), Will Perry, Fraser Johnson.

Conversions: Fraser Johnson (4).

2nd XV Won 44pts-0From the kick off Taunton looked more physical and more organised then QEH. They stuck to the patterns we worked on in training and made space to attack whenever they had possession. Their offloading game was outstanding and if they support runners like they did in this match for the

rest of the season they will score a lot more tries. They also defended well and put pressure on the opposition when they had the ball. An outstanding performance by all.

Man of the match: Harrison Coonick. Ran the game from 9. Made some great decisions. Did a lot of hard work in the break down as well as backing himself to spot gaps and make breaks. Fed his pods and his 10 well when needed. Scored 2 great tries.

Man of the match: Farai Chadzimura.

Scorers: Try: Farai Chadzimura (3), Harrison Coonick (2), Oliver Kenny (2), Benjamin Davidson.

Conversions: James Doblke (2).

3rd XV Drew 24pts-24A thrilling game of rugby, both sides evenly matched, both teams taking turns in the lead, and neither side being able to nominate and pull away. QEH scoring a well worked 3/4’s try and conversation in the last 10 mins gave Taunton a lot of work to do to even the score. Taunton were determined and played together as a team to set up a quick ruck in QEH’s 22, through which George Tidy emerged with a powerful 10 metre run to score near the posts, leaving Zak Tyler with a conversation to level the match. Zak nailing the kick and drawing the side’s level.

Throughout the game the forwards displayed a great deal of powerful running

with notable mentions to Arms Karnastua and Matin Ghorashi for their devastating runs with the ball in hand. The side was superbly captained by Duncan Graham, and supported by Ben Hart and Jake Holder who kept the side moving forward at all times.

Man of the match: Olivier Mastelinck, tireless in defence and lethal in attack.

Scorers:Tries: Ed Topp, Korede Adesunloye, Zak Tyler, George Tidy.

Conversions: Zak Tyler (2).

SCA Won 43pts-0Another convincing victory for the Senior Colts A XV who have yet to concede a point. From 14-0 at half time the Taunton boys stretched away to 43-0 with tries from man of the match Matt Holland (3), Tyler Goosen (2), Eugene Milsky and George Perry; Archie Robinson converted four. Although a few chances were squandered, the side played some enterprising rugby even through wet conditions in the second half. They also showed great determination when having to defend their line with the impressive George Perry making one tremendous tackle. In a good all round team performance, Ben Mouzouri made the hard yards unselfishly with Greg Dietz also standing out up front. In the backs, Tyler Goosen again led by example and Alex Brown made good ground from full back.

We still need to improve at the breakdown where we were turned over too often for comfort while in open play

greater precision of execution will be necessary against better opposition. However, this team will take a bit of beating and is continuing to improve. Come and watch them if you get the chance.

Man of the Match: Matt Holland.

Scorers: Tries: Matt Holland (3), Tyler Goosen (2), Evgeny Milskiy and George Perry.

Conversions: Archie Robinson (4).

SCB Won 36pts-5A rather scrappy, disjointed affair if we’re honest and maybe not as comfortable as the scoreline suggests? We led 12-nil at half time with tries from Josh Crompton and Roman Prokorov with Aaron Carlson converting the first from ... ‘almost in front’! We had a lot of defending to do throughout the second half (top tackling from Alfie Leonard, George Tester and Charlie O’Connell) but also managed a few ‘breakaway tries’ (Roman and Josh, again and Alex Kane) to give the final scoreline a rather flattering look. Still, a few of us on the touchline were impressed with the determination not to concede more than the 5 points.

Man of the Match: Rex Rhodes.

Scorers: Tries: Roman Prokhorov (2), Josh Crompton (2), Rex Rhodes.

Conversions: Aaron Carlson (3).

JCA Lost 42pts-12With a final score of 48-12 QEH proved a strong side leaving us with plenty of areas to focus for next week. On the whole there were times when we looked good with the ball in hand,

however, we missed too many first tackles allowing QEH to break our line. Our first try was scored by Archie Prosser as the forwards drove ball over the line. Sam Stevenson also scored from a great line sneaking down the blindside. Special mention to Sebastian Dando for another great performance and well done to Henry Weatherill for winning sally (The Cactus) as the man of the match.

Man of the march: Henry Weatherill.

Scorers: Tries: Archie Prosser, Sam Stevenson.

Conversion: Oliver Halliday.

JCB Lost 42pts-5Against a strong and well drilled QEH side. They were quicker than us to the breakdown and as a result turned over much of the ball. They had some strong centres which were able to make valuable ground for them not helped by some weak tackling in the first half. (HT score 28-5) A much stronger second half with improved tackling and stronger running, especially close to phase breakdowns. Score remained 0-0 until about 10 mins to go. Defence was a lot stronger and organisation improved throughout the game.

Man of the Match: Ronnie Foster.

Scorers: Try: Rupert Dean.

FA Won 12pts-5This was an excellent win against a talented QEH side, and a result from which the Foals can draw great confidence. Despite conceding an early try in a rather lacklustre opening few minutes, the team refused to buckle and eventually

emerged as deserved winners. The defensive effort during the second half was something to behold, and all members of the team deserve great credit for their outright refusal to be beaten. There were fine performances from Barney Dietz and Tom HK in the centres, and Charlie Shave and Harrison Barrett were combative in the back row.

There is plenty to work on before a major test against Colston's on Saturday. Retention of the ball needs to improve, and some players need to maintain their calm when they perceive things are going against them.

Man of the match: Harrison Barrett.

Scorers: Tries: Tom Houghton-King, Harrison Barrett.

Conversions: Ben Chaffey.

FB Lost 7pts-17It was a gritty and error strewn day at the coal face for the Foals B but out a damp afternoon on Lowers there was a degree of pride that could be taken from a tenacious if sloppy performance in the face of a strong opposition, particularly the boys’ never ending willingness to tackle. The Foals barely touched the ball during the first half and

that the score remained 0-0 was a mighty testament to their defence and indeed its organisation. The second was not augured in well with the loss of Ethan King to a higher calling the other side of the paddock and as the Foals know troubles come not as single spies but in Battalions and keeping in the spirit of reciprocity QEH lost a player to injury shortly afterwards; slightly less in the spirit they called across their 16th man from the A team who shortly afterwards initiated their first score. The boys hung well and special mention must go to Archie Billings and Olec in defence who tackled like men possessed and Freddie and Adam who blasted up the middle like a double, double-barrelled shotgun with the latter rewarded with a try which was converted with aplomb by Oliver Edwards whose dazzling feet are petitioning well for a move out of the pack. 17-7 was harsh and that sense of grievance can hopefully be vented on Colston’s next week.

Man of the match: Matt Ashby.

Scorers: Tries: Adam Lewis-Williams.

Conversion: Ollie Edwards.

1st Team Won 4-2The first team travelled away to Sherborne this weekend and started well. Scoring early through Eleri brown. A lack in concentration lead to two quick goals form Sherborne but Taunton won a corner before half time to level up the scores. A more controlled performance in the second half and the girls came clear in the end scoring a third and another in the final seconds. Well done all.

2nd Team Won 1-0 The second team worked hard defensively on Saturday, they created a few good chances by half time but the game was end to end. In the second half again working hard the girls kept Sherborne out and after coming close through one corner managed to take the lead on the next through Flo Rihll. A good team effort well done!

3rd XI V Sherborne ( away) Lost 0 -9 The team was hit by illness, so we had no subs, and then faced their U16 team, which rather outclassed us. Nevertheless, the 3rds raised their game and never stopped tackling; we played with huge spirit and determination, which was very impressive. Player of the game was Amy Whatmough who played 2 matches, and saved many more than conceded. Well done to all girls: the score line does not reflect the standard you played.

4th XI V Sherborne (away) Lost 0 – 3We played like a different team following last week’s heavy defeat: much more cohesive, much more effective play and even more chances to score ourselves. Hopefully the team will continue to build on this progress: we have great spirit and can achieve some wins to improve our confidence. It’s good to see such positive attitudes.

U15A Won Taunton continued their strong start to the season, taking on Sherborne Girls. Unfortunately the first two minutes of the match saw an injury to the Taunton’s Captain Izzy Glaser. Both sides were very equally matched but strong attacking passes and high work rate from Taunton saw the home side create the better of the chances, putting the Sherbourne goalkeeper under pressure. Taunton continued their second half form, scoring three goals, 2 from Rhiannon Lee and Flora Collier. An intense end to the game saw Sherbourne capitalise and claw two goals back. Taunton held on to win the match 3-2.

U15B Won 5-0Last Saturday the U15B’s played an excellent hockey match against Sherborne Girls. The match proved a triumph, every member of the team was determined for the full 50 minutes and the hard work throughout the game payed off as they walked away content with a win of 5 ~ 0 (goal scorers- Imogen Childs x2, Emily Willis x2 and Kelsey Nichols)

Imogen childs (c) & Jade Cantrill

U14A Lost 1-2Our third U14a team fixture started confidently against a strong Sherborne side. Taunton were putting heavy pressure which resulted in Esme putting the first point in Taunton’s favour after a few minutes into the game. Both sides were fairly evenly matched with the ball being passed to both ends of the pitch but with no further score for the first half, credit to Charlotte for saving many shots directed at goal! Taunton started the second half passing the ball well in position with several missed opportunities, the score remained 1-0 in Taunton’s favour, until the last five minutes when Sherborne equalised, we restarted and Sherborne quickly secured another goal, the last tree minutes were camped on Sherborne’s D but unable to score another goal. Well played girls.

The player of the match was Charlotte

Taunton V Sherbourne – Lost 1 - 7The U14B team played against Sherborne Girls at the weekend. Improvement was seen from last week with strong 16 hits from the defenders Daisy Downham and Loveday Blissett up the right of the pitch. A goal was scored by Verity Winsor with the help of Kate Foster in the D. Many brilliant saves from short corners and shots from Florianna Christie in Goal, who received the Player of the Match.
