ning for the board this election. This will
only bring the total board members to
four for 2017. There are three positions
open. Please consider running for the
board as a write in candidate. This is
our subdivision and we all need to pitch
in and help.

National Night Out is coming up
on Tuesday October 4th. This event is intended to promote crime pre-
vention and improved community rela-
tions. The Parkglen event will held from 6
pm - 8 pm at the Civic Center. We will be
serving hot dogs, chips and sodas. We will
also have a pinata filled with goodies for
the kids around 7:15 pm. Houston Police
Department officers will be on hand to visit
with residents and answer any questions
you may have.

(i.e. Tupperware, Avon, Pamper Chef,
etc.) or other type of service/goods related
business and you would like to set up a
table during the event, please let me

How to Be a GOOD NEIGHBOR
Being on bad terms with your neighbor can make your life frustra1ng, day aPer day. But taking the 1me to establish good terms with your neighbors
has numerous benefits. The community will be friendlier, the neighborhood safer, and the area a nicer and more comfortable place to live.
1. Introduce yourself. Whether you're new in the neighborhood or new residents have just moved in on your block, introduce yourself. Say hello,
offer a welcoming giP and share or ask about the local area: "Where's the nearest pizza place?" or "The garbage truck comes by on Mon-
days, usually around 10 in the morning, but some1mes he sneaks in at 8."
2. Consider your neighbors' lifestyle. Get to know your neighbors--what they do for a living, what their schedules might be like, and so on. Some-
1mes, you can remedy problems before they even start; for example, if they work nights, quiet mornings will be important for them. If they
have young children, quiet evenings will be very important to them. Similarly, give them informa1on that'll help them be more considerate
of your lifestyle. If you do a lot of yard work, or if your teenage son plays the drums, let them know in advance and men1on that if it's
geVng too loud, they shouldn't hesitate to let you know.
3. Control your dog. Keep your dog on a leash if it has a habit of running rampant on your neighbors' lawns, especially if they have a cat or a dog
of their own, and make sure to clean up aPer it. If you have a par1cularly noisy dog, this may also become a source of conten1on for your
neighbor. Put yourself in their shoes and imagine how upset you'd be if you or perhaps your newborn was woken from a much-needed nap
by the sudden yapping of a nearby dog. If you have problems controlling your dog's barking or whining, consider seeking advice from your
local vet or a local animal organiza1on.
4. Prac1ce parking e1queWe. When you park your vehicle, be sure not to block anyone's access, or make them have to pull out of a very 1ght
spot. Don't over-rev the engine of your car or motorcycle early in the morning or late at night. Park in front of your home, not theirs. Avoid
slamming your doors or shining your headlights into your neighbor's windows late at night. Avoid parking in front of mailboxes. On trash
pick-up days, move vehicles that are parked in the street so that the city trucks can access the trash cans.
5. Alert your neighbor to par1es. If you're planning a party, be sure to give your neighbors plenty of warning - leVng them know when it's going
to start and how long you expect it to go on. Leave them a telephone number to contact if they need to ask you to turn it down. If you get
on well with your neighbors, why not invite them too? When it comes to the party itself, s1ck to your agreed arrangements and ask your
guests to be considerate when leaving. Pick up any residual trash that may be leP in the street and yards.
6. Keep your yard and garden 1dy. Weed your garden regularly, because the presence of weeds in your yard is not only unsightly but can also
spread to your neighbor's yard. Mow your lawn regularly and keep your flowers, trees and bushes trimmed appropriately. Put equipment
away as soon as you're finished with it. Remove trash and garbage from the yard. Ask if your neighbor has chemical sensi1vi1es, small chil-
dren or pets before applying pes1cides.
7. Put garbage out on the right day. Only put your garbage out on the day it's due for collec1on. If you accidentally miss the collec1on, bring it
back onto your property immediately and try to contain it well. Garbage can aWract vermin, insects, and other pests, and is also unsightly.
Keep your trash area clean and debris free. Wash your garbage cans if they begin to smell.
8. Communicate with your neighbor. Above all, touch base with your neighbors regularly and keep them in the loop. Remember the golden rule
and if anything you are planning to do may affect them, minimize it and let them know in advance. Keep the channels of communica1on
open by reminding them that if you're doing anything which disturbs them, they should feel comfortable approaching you to discuss the
problem.
9. Be aware of your surroundings, as well as theirs. Even if you're not in a "neighborhood watch" community, keep your eye on anyone you don't
know ac1ng suspiciously around your neighbor's property. When in doubt, call the police so they can quickly curtail any criminal ac1vity.
10. Invite them to contribute to your garage sales, have them over for tea, or offer to babysit their kids/pets while they're away. They'll do the
same for you.
I1 1f you hear of any neighborhood news (events, crimes, special garbage pickups, special event parking restric1ons, etc.) give them a heads-up
by e-mail.
12. Be nice to your neighbors. BE NICE, BE KIND, BE THOUGHTFUL, BE COURTEOUS.

9. Comuníquese con su vecino. Por encima de todo, mantenga contacto con sus vecinos periódicamente. Acuérdese de avisarles si usted está
planeando hacer algo que les pueda afectar, dígales con 1empo. Mantenga abiertos los canales de comunicación por recordarles que, si

We would like to have a Spanish-speaking board mem-ber who can assist in communicating with our residents who do not speak English. We also need someone who has an accounting or financial background and knows how to use Quickbooks.
Requirements for serving on the Board are as follows: 1. You must be in good standing with Parkglen CIA (no delinquent balance, no outstanding deed restriction vio-lations). 2. You must be a record owner of the property. If you are a relative of the record owner, live at the property AND have power of attorney from the property owner authoriz-ing you to represent the household you are also eligible to serve. 3. You must be willing to attend Board of Director meet-ings once a month, as well as the quarterly members meetings. 4. You must be willing to devote at least 10 - 20 hours per month (sometime more) to conducting Parkglen CIA business.
