PTA Highlights…from Dena Pfl ieger

I don’t know about you, but this has been a busy start to the school year. But overall it’s also been a good one. I’m particularly grateful for your generosity in supporting the 2nd annual “Running with the Bulldogs”

Fun Run. We started this event last year as a better way to secure funding for PTA-sponsored activities – and for two years, it has done exactly that. This year’s Fun Run raised just over $29,000, which will fund our entire PTA operating budget for the school year. We are able to fund all of our activities – not in over-the-top ways, but suffi ciently to sponsor high quality fi eld trips, provide valued classroom allotments and deliver other school events. The other huge benefi t is that this initial fi nancial support takes stress off needing to fundraise or possibly cut activities throughout the year. So, THANK YOU!

The other keys to success are your time and talents. Fortunately, we have Activity Coordinators in place for all of the key PTA activities; but, they cannot do it alone. Please be sure to scan the PTA News coming from

your child’s teacher and consider requests to volunteer for key events. We use the web service Sign-Up Genius to make it easier for you to see the types of support needed and sign-up for an opening that works for you. I know that sometimes these requests might seem like just one more thing to do. I’ve found from my own ex-perience that rearranging schedules, etc. to volunteer at these events have been greatly appreciated by my kids and a positive experience for me personally.

Thanks again for helping us get the year started well – and for your continued support throughout the school year.

Dena C. Pfl ieger, PTA President

Through our fundraising and volunteer efforts, you can see the work of the BLE PTA in the following:

• School activities: Fun Run, Disability Awareness, Donuts with Dad, Refl ections Program, Book Fair, Mornings with Mom, Theme Day, Talent Show, Seuss Fair, “Read To Me” Month, Field Day, and Fifth Grade Celebration

• Annual funds for each classroom and grade level • All school fi eld trips• Grade-level enrichment activities• School assemblies• Special purchases like computers, education programs, recess equipment

The Book Fair is Coming!

What a beautiful, crisp fall day for Bailey Lake’s 2nd ‘Running of the Bulldogs! ‘

These kids looked like they had fun!!! They showed great spirit, cheering each grade level as they took turns running... It was wonderful to see!

We could not have surpassed our goal, if it wasn’t for all the wonderful families and businesses that supported our school!

Thank you so much, each and everyone of you who did!

Our school raised collectively $29,000…Amazing!!! We are so fortunate. And our amazingly, fun and spirited principal, Mr. Gualtieri colored his hair blue for the day as well allowed the students to duct tape him to a wall in the afternoon prior to our school assembly! Each student received a special ‘grade colored t-shirt’ that they should be able to wear throughout the year for special events. These shirts were only made possible by the generous donations of local businesses in the area. Should you be in their establishment, please make sure to mention your appreciation!

All the kids, as well as the teachers enjoyed the run. In the end we had over 86% participation from the entire school. We hope everyone felt like a winner! There were some wonderful people behind the scenes helping to make this day enjoyable, special and rewarding for all.

Thank you Christy Kreucher, Katie Barnes and Andrea Beauchamp for your help throughout the planning stages of this event and to all the volunteers that helped the day of our run.

Sincerely, Theresa Rotman, Fun Run Coordinator

2015 Fun Run Success…

What is Scrip Fundraising? We all shop at our favorite retail stores, go grocery shopping?

Why not let our shopping help our schools? Our organization earns money with each gift card purchased through this program. There are no hidden fees or extra costs. We pay face value for every gift card purchased. Each retailer in return, provides a certain percentage back to the school, an instant rebate! You are only purchasing what you need! There are no expirations on gift cards. By simply planning ahead on everyday purchases, we can earn easy money for our school!

Instead of buying through the store, order your gift cards through BLE!With over 300 of the country’s biggest brands, including grocery and department stores, gas sta-tions, restaurants, hotels and home improvement, GLSC has something to appeal to every family. For a complete list of retailers, visit: shopwithscrip.com.

• Place your order through the forms created just for Bailey Lake, including your check (made out to BLE PTA)Forms are located near Staff workroom door. In an envelope, provide name of student, teacher, phone number and your preferred distribution of gift cards (pick-up or sent home with student). Send in with your student. If you are looking for a brand you do not see on form, visit shopwithscrip.com.

• Our school coordinator will submit your order to Great Lakes Scrip Center® (GLSC), and deposit your check (made out to Bailey Lake PTA)

• Your gift cards will be distributed within the following week of placing order.

By simply planning ahead on everyday purchases, the average family can earn at least $11 a week. That modest number adds up quickly. It’s easy for a family to earn $500 - $1,000 in a year, and many families earn much more! The more families participating, the bigger the earnings for our school. Passive, yet very easy money!

Order your gift cards for the holidays!Received no later than noon on the following days. Send in with your student.

Adopta Family

November 9-24, 2015Adopt-a-Family Holiday ProjectIt’s that time of year again and the season of giving is upon us! November 9-24th marks this time of need.

This year our entire school is working to assist local families and children in need. Bailey Lake will assist 5 families this holiday!

With the help and support of our students and staff, we are confi dent that we will be able to help provide a wonderful holiday for these families. Look for the gift tags (Snowmen, Gingerbread Men, Christmas Trees, Bells, Mittens, Hearts and Christmas Lights) that are located on the table in the lobby. While you shop this holiday season, please keep the Adopt-A-Family Holiday Project in mind.

Thank you for your support!

ROOM PARENTSand the holidays!

At BLE, Room Parents are respon-sible for coordinating three class-room parties for the classroom teacher: Halloween, Winter Holiday and Valentine’s Day.

This year our PTA Scrip Program is trying something new…

If you are coordinating a ‘gift’ for your classroom for the holidays, please consider using the Scrip’s program. If you place an order of all the gift cards you may need by Monday, December 7th, we can provide you with a wonder-ful arranged ‘gift card’ vase or fl ower bouquet all ready for you to pick up by Thursday, December 17th for the holidays if you would like.

BOX TOP NOTESThanks for sending in your Box Tops for Education.

Through this passive fundraiser, BLE will receive $639.80.

This money goes into the PTA Ways and Means account to help fund special projects for the school. Mr. Gualtieri is cur-rently working with the students to identify the special project(s) for this year. Look for more info coming in a future communication. In the interim, please continue to

send your box tops to school; there is another opportunity for us to submit for funding in early 2016.

A special THANK YOU to Kristie Hawksley for running our Box Tops program!

RULE #1Adults set fi rm limits in loving ways without anger, lecture, or threats.

RULE #2When a child causes a problem the adult hands it back in loving ways.1. In a loving way, the adult holds the child accountable for

solving his/her problems in a way that does not make a problem for others.

2. Children are offered choices with limits.3. Adults use enforceable statements.4. Adults provide delayed/extended consequences.5. The adult’s empathy is “locked in” before consequence

are delivered.
