Hello for Week 5 of the term. This term seems to be rolling through so quickly and we’re up to almost the midpoint of the term. Remembrance Day With many thanks to the Avenel Branch of the RSL, all of our students will receive a complimentary Remembrance Day Poppy next Monday, 11th November marking 101 years since the armistice treaty was signed ending the terrible tragedy and loss of life of World War 1. Our school will stop and observe a minute silence at 11:00am. The RSL ceremony at the Avenel cenotaph at 11am will be attended by our senior students with our school leaders laying a wreath on behalf of our school community and each student present will plant a sprig of rosemary for remembrance. Fete & Clearing sale It’s here!!! Almost! Our biggest fund-raiser and community event, the annual Fete & Clearing sale is on this Sunday, with a fever of preparation for the fete and checking in of the auction lots taking place throughout Saturday. We need many hands on deck on both days to make sure the event is a success and the workload is spread, so if you haven’t found time to get around to putting your name down to help out, it’s getting urgent and it would really be great if you can. That’s it from me for this week. My very best wishes Graham

OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW …. GRADE 6 VALEDICTORY DINNER COORDINATORS – Thank you to Win Hartnett for volunteering to co-ordinate the Gr 6 Valedictory dinner. If you would also like to be involved in the planning of this great event, please let Win know. HEAD LICE – We have had reports of our ‘unwanted’ school pets lurking around in hair at present. Please check your child’s hair and treat if necessary to that we can keep these unwanted guests at bay. Thank you. GASTRO – We have had several cases of gastro reported. We remind parents that students must be kept home from school for a minimum of 48 hours after diarrhea or vomiting stops.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

ENERGY BREAKTHROUGH TEAM Our Energy Breakthrough team are currently in the final phases of their preparation for the Energy Breakthrough event which will take place in Maryborough from November 21st to 23rd. Over the course of two and a half days, our Grade 5/6 teams will deliver a formal presentation and ride their vehicles for approximately 16 hours. The Energy Breakthrough program provides a fabulous challenge for our students and our teachers and parent helpers put in many extra hours of work to run this great program.

Community Garden has been booming with produce recently. Students enjoyed the Spanakopita parcels they made using spinach, Swiss chard and parsley from the garden. There are many recipes on the internet for this dish for you to try at home! On Monday, students in Grades 1-4 harvested lettuce, spinach, parsley and Swiss chard to take home and use in their own kitchens. They also sampled some strawberries that were ripe, planted tomato seedlings and mulched the potatoes. Next week we will be sampling the beetroots that are more than ready to be harvested.
