BABY STEPS Have you wished you could meet other parents of infants/toddlers with special needs? Have you wondered where you could take your baby to experience socialization, play, and also have adult contact? Would you like new play ideas and songs?

If you answered yes to any of the questions, then Baby Steps may be for you!

Baby Steps is a parent/infant class that focuses on connection, play, support, and building relationships. In this class, the joys and challenges of raising a child with special needs will be shared, celebrated, and supported. Baby Steps is the first of many beginnings.

4. Que se divierta.

APRIL FAMILY NEWSLETTER

Hi! My name is Caroline Lemmens and I am a new special educator here at Kindering. I will be both at Bothell and Bellevue. I grew up in Belgium where I got my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. After I moved to Denver Colorado, I decided to go back to school to get my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education at the University of Colorado. In Colorado, I worked at Anchor Center for Blind Children for 7 years. Last summer, my family and I moved to Kirkland. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and sailing. I look forward to getting to know all of you this year!

Hi! My name is Katja Markovcic and I am very excited to be a new Family Resources Coordinator here at Kindering. I grew up in Lynnwood, Washington and attended Seattle Pacific University where I studied Psychology. Through school I worked at a wonderful early learning center as a substitute teacher, and after graduating I was lucky enough to work at a therapeutic horseback riding center for riders with special needs. This is where I found my love of helping families! Outside of work I enjoy horseback riding, yoga, cooking, and reading.

Greetings! My name is Arie Chamberlain and I am a new Administrative Assistant for the Family Resources department here at Kindering. I grew up in the greater Seattle area and have recently returned from Eastern Washington University where I double majored in

Communication Studies and Psychology. During my time at EWU I worked as a Disk Jockey at KEWU FM and held a public relations internship with the health and wellness office. I have passions for reading, documentaries and music. As Plato one said; “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”

Hi my name is Donna Fuentes, and I am excited to be joining the Kindering Administration team as the new Operations Administrative Assistant. I recently moved to Washington from Southern California where I previously

worked as a Volunteer Program Director for a non-profit organization rescuing and working to restore victims of trafficking here in the U.S. Prior to that I was a Paralegal for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. My most important role by far has been raising my 4 children ranging in age from 7-22! Outside of work, I enjoy running and training for half & full marathons, as well as exploring the local trails of WA. I am looking forward to meeting everyone, and welcome this opportunity.

Hi! My name is Alex Pene and I am a new occupational therapist here at Kindering. I grew up in Southern California and traveled up to Northern California to receive my Bachelors of Science degree in Human Development. I then traveled further north up to Seattle to attend the University of Washington where I received my Masters degree in Occupational Therapy. Throughout my school, I have become very passionate about working with young children and their families in early intervention. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and backpacking around Washington, reading, cooking, traveling to new places, playing with my two cats, and spending time with family and friends.

Hi! My name is Renee Derby, and I am a new special educator here at Kindering. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and did my under-graduate work in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Creative Writing at The

Evergreen State College. I then earned my Montessori Credentials for the primary classroom (ages 2 ½ years to 6 years old) and worked as a co-teacher at a private school. I graduate this June with my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education at the University of Washington. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, knitting, and hiking. I look forward to getting to know all of you this year!
