Please bring your child’s original birth certi#cate to the meeting. !e Baptism Preparation Class for Parents and Godparents is held on the Monday before the Baptism at 7:00pm in the Church. Dear Brothers and Sisters,

!e readings this Sunday are #lled with the examples of widows and their great generosity. In the Gospel, we hear Jesus admiring the widow’s action and gi". He extols her virtue because she is able o make a total gi" of all she has to God. !e scribes, on the other hand, who did things only for show and not for the glory of God, never used their wealth and in$uence to help the less fortunate. !e widow in the First Reading #nds herself in a completely di%erent circumstance, yet she, too, makes a total gi", in her case to the prophet Elijah.

Both widows gave all they had for God, and though it wasn’t much in monetary or material terms, it shows great love. Of course, the challenge for all of us is to become as free as the widows were – to give all that we can in recognition of a God who loves us so much that he gave us his only Son. As we prepare to enter into the season of giving thanks, it may be good to begin re$ecting on our own generosity. How generous am I with the gi"s God has given me? How much and how o"en do I give back? How attentive am I to the needs of the poor and the marginalized in our society?

May our hearts never forget the important words of the Lord: “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Queridos Hermanos,

Las lecturas de este domingo están llenas de ejemplos de viudas y su gran generosidad. En el Evangelio, escuchamos a Jesús admirando la acción y el don de la viuda. Él ensalza su virtud porque ella es capaz de hacer un regalo total de todo lo que tiene a Dios. Los escribas, por otro lado, que hacían las cosas solo para lucirse y no para la gloria de Dios, nunca usaron su riqueza e in$uencia para ayudar a los menos afortunados. La viuda de la primera lectura se encuentra en una circunstancia completamente diferente, pero también ella hace un regalo total, en su caso al profeta Elías.

Ambas viudas dieron todo lo que tenían por Dios, y aunque no fue mucho en términos monetarios o materiales, muestran un gran amor. Por supuesto, el reto para todos nosotros es llegar a ser tan libres como las viudas, dar todo lo que podamos en reconocimiento a un Dios que nos ama tanto que nos dio a su único Hijo. Mientras nos preparamos para entrar en la temporada de dar gracias, es buena idea comenzar a re$exionar sobre nuestra propia generosidad. ¿Cuán generoso soy con los dones que Dios me ha dado? ¿Cuánto y con qué frecuencia devuelvo? ¿Cuán atento estoy a las necesidades de los pobres y marginados en nuestra sociedad?

Que nuestros corazones nunca se olviden de las importantes palabras del Señor: “Cuando lo hicieron con el más insigni#cante de mis hermanos, conmigo lo hicieron.”
