SCHOOL COUNCIL NOTES:

The next meeting is Tuesday, November 13th

at 7pm in the staffroom. Free childcare is

provided. Your support and input as a parent is

important.

Thanks so much to all those who supported the RG School Council Family Halloween Dance, whether helping to plan & organize, setting-up & decorating, working at the tables/ and concession, cleaning-up, making donations, and/or bringing your family to support this school-community event. It was a huge success and could only be so successful with the sup-port of so many volunteers and families.

Please know that every little bit that families can do to support such school community-building events and activities (which also often help to provide learning opportunities such as field trips and guest presentations) is truly appreciated! As we acknowledge that it takes a whole village to raise a child, it is also important to recognize that many hands make light. Please know that we have an almost unlimited number and variety of opportunities for parents and students to get in-volved and volunteer as little or as much as you want or are able to. We are also open to new ideas and feedback. Thanks for your contributions to our school community.

Ross Glen Bazaar and Bake Sale:

Please join us Saturday, November 3rd between 10 am and 3pm! Free admission and a bake table. Get everything you need for the holiday season! Proceeds to Ross Glen School Council special projects. If you would like to donate baking for the bake table, please drop off your donations in the gym be-tween 2:45pm and 3:30 pm on Friday, Nov 2, or between 9am and 10 am on Saturday, Nov 3. We appreciate any donation of any size--individually packaged items or larger items. You do not need to price your items. Thanks for your support!

ROSS GLEN SCHOOL CHOIR:

The Ross Glen School Choir has started up, with practices being held during the lunch hour on TUESDAYS in the Music Room. The school choir is open to students in Grades 2-6. We will be performing at the Remembrance Day Assembly.

SAFETY PATROL NEWS:

We have all seen how busy it can be in front of the school with cars, trucks and buses. Traffic jams make everyone frustrat-ed and unsafe. For every student who walks

to school, there is one less vehicle outside the school in the morning and afternoon. So if you want to help make the school a safer place in the morning and afternoon, why not ask your parent to park a little further away and you can walk together.

Parents are reminded to exercise extra care and caution while driving in the area of the school. With many children coming and going and a large amount of vehicular traffic, we must do all we can to prevent a tragedy. Thank you to all of you who have responded so well to the requests to keep the parking

Head Lice:

Head lice can be a pesky problem that anyone can have at some

point in their life. Most often infestations occur in children 3 to 11

years of age.

Alberta Health Services has indicated that there is always lice in

school and in the community but these become shared at in-

creased levels at times like Halloween when students share masks,

wigs etc., as well as when children share toques and scarves as

the weather gets colder.

As per Alberta Health Services direction, we do NOT send out

notices about occurrences of head lice in the school, but we do

encourage parents to check their children for lice on a somewhat

regular basis throughout the year. At school we do try to take pre-

cautions to reduce the likelihood of transmission of head lice, but

unfortunately cannot ensure that it does not happen.

Head lice are not dangerous and they do not spread disease but

they can and do spread from person to person. Having dirty hair

does not cause head lice. Head lice cannot fly or jump and you

cannot get them from your pets.

For more information and tips for parents, please feel free to go to

the RG Website at: www.rossglen.mhpsd.ca

SALE OF THE POPPIES: Poppies will be available for all students. Students may make a small donation to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund. Collection cans will be available in each classroom.

WINTER IS APPROACHING:

Students should come to school appropriately dressed for the season. Children are expected to be outdoors before school, at snack recess (10:10am) and during lunch recess. Please help to ensure they are dressed accordingly.

NOVEMBER SAFETY PATROL SCHEDULE

Encourage Communication

When children are telling you about their experiences, be sure to ask them how they felt, by making eye contact with them. The more we talk with our children about everyday experiences, both positive and negative, the more likely they will be able to tell us about a problem.

Some tips to encourage communication: Ask open-ended questions, such as “Tell me about your day.” Listen reflec-tively. You can do this by repeating what your child says back to them in your own words. This will show that you truly understand what your child is trying to tell you.

For more information regarding communication please view the Alberta Health Services parent information series located on their website; How To Listen Actively To Your Child or contact their 24 hour toll free hotline 1-866-332-2322.
