Primary Reading/WritingCCS LA K.L.1 Use frequently occurring nouns and verbs.
Complete a focus lesson with students, using the anchor charts, before using this activity in stations. Understanding that words have different uses within reading and writing will help students build comprehension.

STATION TASK CARD Unit 1 2 3 4 __________ Station Activity Name: Nouns in my Story Standard: Conventions of Standard English Skill/Objective: (COPY IN YOUR PASSPORT) Identifying Nouns Directions: 1. Take an Activity Sheet to complete on your own. 2. Take turns reading the anchor charts provided. Be sure you understand that a noun is a person, place, thing or idea. 3. Read the story provided by your teacher. Work alone, with a partner or with the other students at your station. 4. Record the nouns in the story as you come to them. Put the words in the correct column of your Activity Sheet.
Challenge: Choose a sentence from a book or story you have read. Write it on a sheet of paper, but add a blank line in place of every noun. . Share your sentence with other students and have them create new sentences by adding nouns to create meaning.
Reflection: Choose any sentence. How many total words are in the sentence. How many of them are nouns?
