COUNTABLE NOUN

Countable nouns are easy to recognize.

They are things that we can count.

For example: "pen".

- We can count pens.- We can have one, two, three or more pens.

Here are some more countable nouns:

- dog, cat, animal, man, person

- bottle, box, car 

-table, chair, suitcase, bag

We add -es  to most nouns in -o :

But we just add -s to:

radio radios

UNCOUNTABLE NOUN

Uncountable nouns are substances, concepts

etc that we cannot divide into separate

elements.

We cannot "count" them.

For example, we cannot count "milk".

We can count "bottles of milk" or "litres of 

milk", but we cannot count "milk" itself .

SINGULAR AND PLURAL

Singular Noun Definition:

When a noun means one only, it is said to besingular.

Examples: boy, girl, book, church, box

Plural Noun Definition:

When a noun means more than one, it is said tobe plural.

Examples: boys, girls, books, churches

• The plural of nouns is usually formed by

adding - s to a singular noun.

lamp lamps

cat cats

fork forks

• Nouns ending in s, z, x, sh, and ch form the

plural by adding - es.

• Nouns ending in - y preceded by a consonant

is formed into a plural by changing - y to - ies.
