The countdown is here for the final weeks of

this school year! What a year of blessings as we have had another good year where we have earned some high achievements in athletics, fine arts, and academics! The staff and faculty have been working to-wards our SACS CASI accreditation. I would like

to thank those of you who participated in the online and printed parent surveys. We have reviewed the results and have begun assessing key areas that we are re-evaluating, as well as, areas we desire to progress in. As always, we continue to strive to better our whole school whether it be academics, athletics, or fine arts, as it is our desire to provide our students with a foundation that presents a biblical worldview for the whole being. May is always a full month of exciting activities with the climax of kindergarten and high school graduation. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to both milestone events as we begin with the end in mind….5K-12th grade! Our graduations will be Friday, May 22, 2015, with 5K at 9:00 a.m. in the gym and high school at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Center. The last day of school will be Thursday, May 28th. Please note the calendar of events on the back page for all the upcom-ing events! We look forward to a successful ending of a year of blessings! January 8, 2015 was not only a very cold day outside, but inside the 4th, 5th,

and 6th grade students embarked on an adventure that gave them a glimpse into the ICE AGE! It was the annual Winter Blast, the earmarked day upper elementary students have a day of learning and activities outside the classroom! FBT Children’s Ministry Director Amy Giles led the event ‘s activities that fo-cused on how students could understand the Ice Age through God’s Word. Mrs. Giles took the students back to the global flood and the effects it had that led to the Ice Age. A frozen climate was portrayed through a number of team games the students played. One favorite activity was preparing their teachers as if they were going into the frozen climate then building a wall so that the teachers could ice fish! It was a full day of great lessons and activities that both students and teachers enjoyed!

The Junior class held its annual

Valentine’s Day fundraiser during February. The juniors delivered hundreds of special gifts, treats, and Valentunes throughout the morning of Thursday, February 13, 2015. The juniors did a great job in spreading a little love! Thank you to those friends and families who supported the juniors this year in both the fruit sales and the Valen-tine’s Day sales. These fundraisers help the juniors in sponsoring the JR/SR and their senior trip.

Friday, January 23rd marked the 100th day of

the school year! It was a fun day for 5K and 1st grade as they celebrated with in-class activities that involved using the number “100”! The first grades tied the day in with their “Cowboy-Round Up” theme wearing the attire of cowboys and cowgirls! They wrapped the day up with a round up in the gym playing a number of friendly competition team games.

Thank you to Glynn Willis of Adams Outdoor Advertising and to the Florence

Rotary Club for the personal dictionaries they gave to the third grade classes. This is an annual service project of the Rotary Club, and we are so grateful to Mr. Willis and the Florence Club for their support. Mr. Willis delivered the dictionaries along with a Chick-fil-A treat card from David and Blake Pate for each student.

The Senior class of 2015 visited Washington, D.C. in November before going

on Thanksgiving break. They took in a variety of the nation’s capital’s sites in a three day visit. It is always a time to reflect on the history of our country and also a time of building great memories with classmates. Mr. Berry, Mr. Hardy, Mrs. Dougherty, and Mrs. Johnson served as the chaperones! Not only did the class enjoy the historical sites, they went and saw A Christmas Carol drama at the Ford Theater. Before coming home, they felt a glimpse of winter as snow began to fall!

Mrs. Berry’s class ready for the 100th day celebration activities!

Student Government sponsor Michelle Johnson took the entire

junior and senior high student government to tour the State House in January. The tour was a little thank you for all of the hard work they have done this year. They watched a movie about South Carolina’s history, and then they were given a very enlightening walking tour of the State House and the many artifacts that it houses. It was a memorable event!

The rain didn’t stop the 7th-12th grades from

their field day on Friday, March 20, 2015. They had a day of some good clean fun and healthy competition. P.E. instructor Melissa Roeder left no time for laziness or slacking off as the students played hard from 8-11:30 a.m. The students were divided into two teams. The competition re-mained close throughout the day; but in the end, Coach Minton’s team was the victor over Coach Brown’s team. The morning’s events ended with the junior and senior girls finish-ing their powder puff football game from Homecoming ‘14. At the Home-coming pep rally, the game ended in a tie, but the seniors claimed vic-tory, ending the competition on Field Day. It was indeed a great morning where studying was the last thing on their minds!

The Elementary and High School Fine Arts Showcases were held

Sixth graders Grace

Owens and Lilly Sauls participated in the 2015 South Carolina Elemen-tary Honors Choir in Feb-ruary. The girls submitted audition tapes in the fall and were selected among 500 vocalists from across the state.

The girls went to Columbia where the 200 member Honors Choir prac-ticed and prepared to perform a concert at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on Saturday, February 7, 2015. The audience in-cluded teachers and professionals attending the South Carolina Music Educators conference in addition to family and friends. The choir was under the direction of guest conductor Maribeth Yoder-White. FCS mu-sic instructor Leslie Evans stated that it was a wonderful learning experi-ence for our students.

The young string ensemble opened the annual Christmas concert to a

full crowd in the FCS gym on Friday, December 19, 2014. The theme, An Old-Fashion Christmas, carried through in both the three, four, five-year old kindergarten and elementary presentations. It was two simple programs that focused on the message of the season, the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. There were familiar songs that never grow old and then the smiles that reflect the joy of the Christmas season!

On Sunday, December 7, 2014, the high school choir had the oppor-

tunity to sing at the Sumter Army National Guard for military personnel who were waiting to be deployed in January. The soldiers were joined by their families for a Christmas luncheon, and our choir performed a 20 minute program of Christmas music. According to music instructor Les-lie Evans, it was such a blessing to have the chance to honor those men and women as they serve our country.

Congratulations to the below students who participated

in the SCISA Music Festival in Columbia on Thursday, March 12, 2015. The festival was held at the University of South Carolina School of Music in Columbia. The FCS musicians were among hundreds of students statewide. GOLD MEDALISTS:

The kindergarten building was

buzzing with excitement on two spe-cial mornings set aside for some very important guests. The three, four, and five-year old students waited eagerly as their mom or grandmother arrived for the Muffins for Moms drop in January.

The young students served their guest a muffin and drink then presented her with a special gift!

Both drop-ins were full of smiles as they enjoyed having their spe-cial guests share a few minutes of their school day. We appreciate our parents!

The past few years kindergarten and elemen-

tary students have participated in our Change 4 Change project as part of a missions emphasis in which we support a number of mission projects. This year, as a part of the missions pro-ject, FCS partnered with the FBT Chil-dren’s Ministry to sponsor 268 shoeboxes for the Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child.

The theme “Operation Inside Out” was the focus, challenging students to reach out to

others by giving of themselves. We had a collection station for small kids meal toys and items students could give rather than keep for themselves. Using funds from the Change 4 Change collection, items were purchased for the shoe-boxes. Students from the kindergarten up to the upper elementary were involved in the full process of putting the boxes together, filling them, and making them ready to send off to the OCC Processing Center in Charlotte, NC. We had spe-cial chapels with all three groups in order that the children were a part of the full process in preparing the shoeboxes. The boxes were taken to a local church which then sent them to Charlotte, NC, for final check and prep for their overseas destination.

Thursday, January 15, 2015

It was Dad’s or Grandpa’s

turn in March as the kinder-garteners hosted the Donuts for Dads drop in. The guests arrived with smiles and hugs as the young children eagerly greeted their guest.

The children and guests enjoyed a donut and drink together. The students then shared a special gift they prepared for their important guest.

Thursday, March 12, 2015

A team from FCS and FBT

went to the OCC processing center in Charlotte to volunteer in preparing boxes for distribu- tion to their final destination. Although the team didn’t actually process our boxes, they experi- enced the joy of the final phase in seeing the final leg before the boxes were distributed overseas.
