Be confident, because a lack of confidence is the worst ingratitude. If you have offended him it does not matter! He always loves you; believe in his love and do not fear. He is always anxious to forgive.

“What was Judas’ disgrace?” Not his treason, not his suicide, but ‘not having believed in the love of Jesus.”

Jesus is God’s pardon. So then, love him day and night and always, with each beat of

The incident is still very

vivid in my mind. My oldest sister

was getting married. One of my

brothers and his wife were coming

from St Louis when they got into a

terrible accident. She was killed and

he landed in a hospital for a week.

Having brought up eleven

children in depression time, my par-

ents had very little money. It was de-

cided that my mother would go to the

funeral and Dad would stay home.

The day of the funeral, I acci-

dentally noticed my father lying on

his bed, sobbing like a child. I was a

sophisticated 23-year-old at the

time, but instinctively I bent over

and kissed Dad on the cheek.

It was my way of consoling him.

All this came back to my mind as I

was re-reading the words of Lucia,

describing the third apparition of the

Angel to the three Fatima children

preparing them for Mary’s appari-

tions. In his right hand, the Angel

held a Host which was dripping

blood into the chalice held in his left

hand.

“Leaving the chalice and

Host suspended in the air,” Lucia

wrote, “the Angel prostrated himself

on the ground and repeated this

prayer (the Trinity prayer) three

times. Then rising, he took the chal-

ice and the Host. He gave the Host to

me and the contents of the chalice to

Jacinta and Francisco saying at the

same time, “Take and drink the

Body and Blood of Jesus Christ,

horribly outraged by ungrateful

men. Repair their crimes and con-

sole your God.”

As one writer so beautifully

put it, “If you haven’t been dis-

turbed, you didn’t get the message.”

We are being told that it’s possi-

ble to console the God who lives “in

light inaccessible”. When Moses

begged God for the privilege of see-

ing His face, he was told, “No one

can see the face of God and live.”

This is the God whom Jesus told us

to call Father. And it is possible to

offer Him consolation. How?

“Take and eat...take and

drink.” By offering to God the only

sacrifice of His Only Begotten Son

at Mass, we are offering our Heav-

enly Father the greatest consolation

possible.

God is pure Spirit, But I dare

to believe that when I offer Him His

immolated Son at Mass, He experi-

ences the same consolation as did

my father when I bent over and

kissed him on the cheek, I dare to

call God Father.

Thoughts on Consecration to Jesus through MaryThoughts on Consecration to Jesus through MaryThoughts on Consecration to Jesus through MaryThoughts on Consecration to Jesus through Mary St Louis de Montfort’s guidance for making a good Consecration to Je-

sus through Mary is well known. He said, “It was through Mary that the sal-

vation of the world was begun and it is through Mary that it must be con-

summated.”

“When we establish a solid devotion to Our Blessed Mother, it establishes

a more perfect devotion to Jesus Christ.”

“She is the means our Lord made use of to come to us, she is the means

we must make use of to go to Him.”

“When making a good consecration, we give to God, through Mary’s

hands, all of our good works. She purifies them and presents them to Je-

sus. We can count on Mary to present all of our good works to Jesus, for

she holds nothing back but faithfully passes it all on to Him.”

From the time of Adam and Eve man has tried

to escape suffering in any form. It is a mystery to all except the holy ones of God. The Proph-ets saw it as a call from God to repent. The Apostles saw it as “a happy privilege” to imitate Jesus. Pagans saw it as foolish-ness. Men of today see it as an evil and try to avoid it, but it follows them wherever they go.

Suffering is something we like to talk about when it is ours, but dislike hearing about when it belongs to some-one else. We can see it work wonders in the lives of oth-ers but have no use for it in our own. We can see the wis-dom of God chastising our enemies but think of Him as cruel when we are afflicted. We consider it justice when an alcoholic develops cirrhosis of the liver, but injustice when we are victims of a migraine headache resulting from a lack of trust in God.

We would like to ignore suffering, hide it and pretend it is not there, but reality forces us to face it in spite of ourselves. Some are made holy by embracing it, and others become bitter and resentful by refusing it. It makes some strong and crushes others. Some will never acknowledge its pres-ence in their lives but somehow everyone realizes that this game of “pretend” destroys and disfigures the soul.

Many seeks to find excuses for suffering by blaming soci-ety, people, events, history, greed and original sin, but their

The Eternal Father wanting to give His own Son, put the price of sal-

vation in the breast of the Immaculate Virgin. Thus as Christ began

to live in the Blessed Virgin as "Man-God," Mary began to live with

the Eternal Word in a Trinitarian dimension: in communion as

"mother" with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It was not as simple a

communion as ours, but a more intimate union which goes on end-

lessly - the child which she bore was the Son of God and the Son of

the Blessed Virgin."

suffering is only increased by this spirit of resentment. When people are sick they seek a doctor, when they are lonely they seek companionship, when they are poor they seek riches, when they are tense they seek relaxation, when they feel the pangs of guilt they drown it by excesses of one kind or another. When they are cold they seek warmth and when they are hot they seek the coolness of a morning breeze. Man runs from any form of discomfort or pain, and the words of St Paul find a place in his heart, “About this thing, I have pleaded with the Lord three times for it to leave me.” (2 Cor. 12:8) There are not many who are satisfied with the answer Jesus gave him, “My grace is enough for you: my power is at its best in weakness.”

Like St Paul, and as children of a loving Father, we must trust His Wisdom in regard to the kind of cross that is necessary for the purification of our particular weakness. Only He knows the degree of glory He desires for us, and what graces and suffer-ings are needed to arrive at that sublime destiny. His love extends to every cross, every joy, every moment of our existence. There is nothing that es-cape His Eye and he permits nothing to happen to us that does not have some hidden good within it.
