A time for reflection and celebration

This has been a special time for our Year 12 students as we re-

flect on their journey and celebrate their achievements. Last

Wednesday our Primary school hosted a special assembly in

honour of our Year 12s. As an R-12 college, we have the unique

opportunity where our youngest students are able to see what

lies ahead. The traditional handing over of the balloons at the assembly saw our

Reception students passing on a special message of good luck and future success to

each of our Year 12 students.

On Thursday night we hosted a formal Valedictorian/Graduation Ceremony for our

Year 6 students, who are graduating into the secondary school, and for our Year 12

students at Morphettville Racecourse. Many distinguished guests attended the

ceremony and our award winners were announced. Congratulations to all of them!

Our Valedictorian speech was delivered by Cadee Donaghey and we also heard from

our College Presidents Jordan Mavros and Peter Nangle as well as our Primary

Presidents Ayeeshah Abdul Karim and Travis Iaccarino. It was a time to celebrate as

a Centre of Excellence.

Sincere appreciation is extended to staff and families for the collaborative support of

our students which has resulted in their successful journey through our college. We

extend our best wishes to our Year 12 students as they look towards their future as

successful graduates of Plympton International College.

Year 8-9 Badminton Carnival

15 students participated in the Western Zone

Badminton carnival at the Adelaide Badminton Centre

during the last week of term 3. Playing in pairs, where

they had games of doubles and singles against other

schools, and pairs from Plympton International College

gave everyone many games. All of our pairs were

competitive and there was much improvement over the

day.

Three of our boys teams made the semi-finals. Harsh

Bachhal and Shail Shah made the semi-finals and

finished 4th overall. Kyle Johnston, Adam Wilkins and

Rendy Rahmadhan won all of their minor round games

to lose to the eventual winners in the semi and then won

the playoff to finish 3rd overall. Jamie Luu and Josh Luu

were undefeated in the minor rounds and won their

semi-final to get into the Championship game.

Unfortunately the pair from Woodville are regular club

badminton players and were too good for the Luu

brothers.

It was a great day for everyone who improved their

badminton skills and represented the school

impeccably, taking home a smile and a sore shoulder!

District Athletics Day

Athletics day was filled with energetic and positive

students from Plympton International College!

Students were supportive and encouraging of one

another, eagerly cheering on their school friends.

We celebrated our achievements and gave high fives to

each other, proud to be part of such a positive and

caring group of young people.

We look forward to participating next year!

Primary Schools Festival of Music

On the 22nd September, ten of our year 5 and year 6

students joined 10,000 students from around South

Australia to perform in the Primary Schools Festival of

Music Concert Series. These students have worked

hard all year to learn the set pieces and acted

professionally during the rehearsals and the

performance process. They were also welcoming of

other students who shared their row from Reidy Park

Primary School in Mount Gambier.

It was a spectacular event that our students enjoyed

being part of and look forward to the next performance

in 2019!

Sun Safe Policy

The wearing of sun-safe hats during Terms 1 and 4 is

mandatory and expected for all Reception to Year 6

students and there is a No-hat, No play policy. Year 7 to

Year 12 students are expected to be sun-smart. Hats of

Legionnaire design or those that are broad brimmed,

offer the best protection and are available from the

School Uniform Shop.

Can my child take mobile phones and

digital devices to school?

It is recommended that students do not bring items of

value to school. However, if mobile phones are brought

to school they must be switched off during lesson times.

Mobile phones and digital devices will be confiscated by

teachers and kept at the College Office until the end of

the day if used inappropriately.

AFL 9s Carnival

On Friday 26th October some of our students along

with Ms Sue Pretty went to Flinders University to

participate in an AFL 9s Carnival.

It was a beautiful sunny day and the students

represented our college with pride and enthusiasm.

Two awards were given on the day by one of the

female Crows AFL players. Our winners were Anni and

Joel for best team players.

Annual Netball Game

On Tuesday 16th October we held our annual staff

versus students netball game. There was a huge

amount of support for both sides and it was played with

lots of laughs by all. Thank you to Gary Gulliver for his

umpiring skills. We are happy to report no injuries this

year and we look forward to containing this event.

The teachers took out the win with 7 goals to 1.

Congratulation to all that participated!

Year 9 History

The year 9 history students have been looking at the

changes in time and World War 1. We have secured

authentic memorabilia from the Australian War Museum

and this has helped enhance the students

understanding of these times.

Mock Crash Excursion

Conducted by the West Torrens Council and Motor

Accident Commission, students from Plympton

International College joined four to five hundred Year 11

and 12’s from our region to undertake a real life

simulation experience of road trauma.

Five students from our college were also asked to

provide actors for this demonstration. These actors

were professionally made up and provided the various

roles of drivers and passengers for the scenario being

played out.

The demonstration dealt with the consequences of

inattention while driving through the inappropriate use

of mobile phones and realistic with two ambulances,

police cars and a fire truck present.

Following this Demonstration we moved inside to hear

a firsthand account of the consequences such an

incident can result in. Eli at the age of 24 made an

error in judgement whilst driving and was lucky he and

his passenger at the time didn't lose their lives. Eli

now lives with an acquired brain injury - he had to

learn to walk and talk again - and permanently limps

and has slurred speech. He spoke of the need to

consider your actions when behind the wheel carefully

to ensure others aren't faced with the everyday

challenges he continues to face 14 years later. It really

was a profound and moving experience to hear from a

crash survivor and one which had all our Year 11

students riveted to listen to.
