TRANSCRIPT
Warm greetings to all members of the
SGTC and I hope you have all emerged
from your winter hibernation and are once
again playing plenty of tennis. Our AGM
was held in September and I am very
pleased to advise that our committee now
has a number of new members which is
great news for the club. A full list of the
executive and general committee positions
has been included in this newsletter. It was
with some sadness that we received the
resignation of Gail Scott from the position
of Secretary that she has held for the past
15 years. The com-
mittee had previously
decided to present
Gail with Life Mem-
bership which was
formally presented to
Gail at the AGM.
Congratulations Gail
on your Life Member-
ship and thanks for
your amazing contri-
bution to the club
over many years, we look forward to it
continuing albeit in a somewhat lesser role.
I think you would all agree we have had
enough rain for the time being, so hopefully
it will stop soon and allow everything to

wet ground has prevented a number of
projects from being completed including
installation of our new picnic tables. We
will most likely hold a working bee soon, so
I urge all members to support this when it
happens. Thanks again to Chris Murphy for
the great job he does keeping the grounds
looking amazing, even under difficult condi-
tions.
All our competition teams are in full swing
and it is great to see a number of new faces
in both our junior
and senior teams.
The mid-week ladies

start their finals, so I
wish all our teams
best of luck in the
finals.
We are planning to
hold a club Christ-

ward to seeing you all there.

NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2011
14 August, 2011
To The Committee of The South Gisborne Tennis Club,
“As they say all good things must come to an end.”
I will not be seeking re-election on the Executive or General Committee at the SGTC 2011 AGM on September 6th, 2011.
I was elected onto the SGTC Committee in 1997, into the role of Secretary. (I just would have to correspond to letters and
keep relevant information that’s what Di told me)???
15 years on and I think have written many letters, worn many hats and have accumulated over 8 boxes of documents!!!
I have worked with and supported Five Presidents who have all contributed countless voluntary hours in keeping the SGTC
above the average when it comes to facilities, programs, professional coaching and the all round high standards that we have
come to expect.
Many projects have been instigated and have been seen through. Four new mod grass courts, one surface upgrade, Lights
on all courts, Free BBQ and under cover facilities, club house upgrade and playground equipment.
The club has been pro active in giving every opportunity to our members to participate in Tennis Vic programs; eg Pennant,
Loddon Campaspe Junior Masters Tournaments (2 years running), MRTA Squad was hosted out of SGTC in it’s inaugural
year and continued for another 3 years under the Current coach at the time. SGTC hosted it’s own Junior Classic Tourna-
ment (3 years running), which was supported by players from as far afield as Nagambie, Bendigo, Metro melb, and New
Zealand. At one stage we had to play over two clubs with over 12 courts in use (and yes we ran canteens at both venues).
The Club has always been vigilant when appointing our coaching teams. Four Professional coaches have offered our mem-
bers top instruction, and the club has gained from their experiences.
I have been thoroughly supported in my Social events that were run for the club. The Mexican, Italian, Aussie, Hawaiian
open days, Wine tastings, Product nights, Dinner dances, Disco nights, Junior Fun days, T.V Open fun Days, Ladies Basket
Lunch afternoons, Annual bus trips to Aust Open and not to mention our recent Annual Curry nights, and of course, every
one had a raffle attached.
One of my highlights was being invited to a luncheon at Royal Sth Yarra tennis club, for a Tennis Victoria presentation,
where the Club was short listed for a possible award. That year (2000) we won Country Club of the Year. Evonne Goola-
gong presented us with our award then came to the club to meet some of the members. That was a huge year.
Many Grant submissions have been written up and sent on. The SGTC have been successful in 80% of their submissions.
The original write up in 1999, (Mary Biber and Kaye Eyles), to have an inclusive program which incorporates the Disability
sector has been a passion of mine, and to date is supported by two centres and has had over 130 participants and continues
to grow with all ranges of disability taking interest in our Program. Big thank you to Jason McKee for also supporting and
having the passion for the program.
I have welcomed and farewelled many a member, and will continue to do so as I believe that your first point of contact at a
club is your most memorable.
I wish the Committee the insight to move forward and don’t loose sight of our sense of Community and Friendliness that is
an integral part of the South Gisborne Tennis Club.
Thank you.
Gail Scott.
GAIL SCOTT - GOODBYE, BUT NOT FAREWELL
By now you are all aware of Gail’s transition to the member rank of ‘Special Projects’. She will still be involved behind the scenes,
with Disability Programmes and Grants. For now, I wish to present to you, her letter of resignation as I feel it provides an insight
into the history, culture and ethos of our beloved little club, a club that so many of us love to be involved with, for our own per-
sonal reasons.

OPEN MIXED SATURDAY COMPETITION Our new Junior season is up and running, already in our 8th
week. We have 5 teams, A-grade, B-grade, two C-grade teams
and one team in D-grade which plays on a Friday night during
summer. Only another 3 matches before Xmas holidays and
then we are back next February for the last 5.
Despite the interruptions with several washouts, Melbourne
Cup and some sections having a Bye, all teams are doing well
with 3 teams inside the top 4 and the others just outside.
Congratulations to all Junior players, parents and especially the
team managers on a great start to our season. It’s quite a chal-
lenge to get to the courts by 8.30 for some of us. Thank you
to all the parents that help with the umpiring in the C and D
grades, the matches wouldn’t be possible without you.
If you’re interested in playing Junior competition, our next sea-
son starts next April please contact Narelle or Caroline. We
have teams for all abilities.
Our members can assure the professionalism of our spon-sors. We en-courage you to support their services
We are fast approaching the half way point of the Sum-
mer Competition. We have had more washouts this season
then last so far but it has been a fantastic start to the season.
We have 4 teams playing across the 3 sections with all teams
doing well. Section 1 is turning into a fight for top spot be-
tween our two teams, and Section 2 and 3 teams are currently
in contention for finals.
There is still a long way to go till the end of the season with the
Christmas and New Years Break stopping play for nearly 2
months.
Good luck to all teams for the rest of the season, Have fun, and
enjoy the festive break.
Most importantly, keep hitting!!
This Summer season of tennis concluded with all four of our
teams, (Sections 2, 4, 6 and 7), unfortunately missing out for a
position in the semi-finals. . .
This Season, four teams, (one in each of Sections 2 and 3 and
two in Section 6), were entered for the Winter season which
commenced in July. Our teams were re-organised and new play-
ers joined our mid-week ranks. Welcome to the wonderful
world of competition tennis!
In the last round, our Section 2 team marginally missed out on
percentage for a top four position! Our Section 3 girls played
off in the finals but unfortunately
were beaten by Gisborne. Our
Section 6-Black team prevailed and
will be in the Grand Finals next
week!
Please contact Anna Karopou-
los if you are interested in being
part of this competition, or help
our teams out on a casual basis as
an emergency player.
MID WEEK LADIES COMPETIT ION NIGHT MOVES The Winter season of the Thursday night comp was com-
pleted with two of our teams (Section 1 & 2), reaching the
Grand Final and finishing as runners-up…Congratulations
GUYS! This season we have had five teams competing
across the three sections and the competition has been
very strong. We are very pleased to have a number of
new players competing this season and we hope they con-
tinue on next season. We also had some success last sea-
son with Norm Salter’s team finally winning the elusive
Section 2 flag they had been chasing. We think Norm is
still celebrating!!! Thanks to all the team captains for the
great job you have done organising
your teams, collecting ball-money,
etc. Keep up the great work it is
much appreciated.
We always need more players and
are hoping to enter more teams in
the next season which starts in Feb-
ruary 2012. So if you would like to
play please contact either Phil (5428
1670) or Ediz (0438 009605) or one
of the team captains. Don’t forget, every set counts…
