BIOGRAPHY Bruce Cutknife is a member of the Samson Cree First Nation in Hobbema, AB. Bruce was born and raised on the Bear Hills Maskwachees community with Cree as his first language. He attended the Ermineskin Residential School up until grade 9 and then moved to Edmonton to attend high school. In 1974, Bruce completed his high school in Ponoka, AB. After working a few years, Bruce went back to school at the newly established Maskwachees Cultural College in 1976. Bruce started working in the Living History Program of the Maskwachees Cultural College for a number of years. His duties included audio and video recording of Elders talking about local history. This involved working with Elders to collect and archive the Cree language, working with Cree Syllabics and using them in the collection and archiving of local history. Bruce went back to school to complete his under-graduate studies. He received his BA in History/Native Studies from Augustana University College in Camrose, AB. After graduation, Bruce worked in local radio and television, and taught some Cree Language and Cree Studies courses at Maskwa-chees Cultural College. Bruce was also the Director of Education for the Samson Cree Nation.

Part-Time Student Loan Eligibility Update Learner Assistance has been recently notified by the Canada Student Loans Program that assets are no longer to be used in determining eligibility for part-time assistance. Eligibility for part-time funding is now determined by comparing a student’s (and spouse’s, if applicable) line 150 income, savings, and RRSPs (after exemption) to the income threshold for their family size.

Due to this federal change, Alberta will no longer use assets to determine eligibility for part-time funding either.

Any students who have applied for part-time funding for 2011-12 and who believe that assets they listed on their part-time application may have affected their eligibility are welcome to submit a change of circumstance* to us so that we can review their applications. Program Services and Delivery Unit Alberta Advanced Education and Technology

*Change of circumstance forms are available in the Augustana Awards and Financial Aid Office in M110 Founders’ Hall.
