a championship win, a victory beyond my wildest

dreams, and if you haven’t heard it, I’m going to

send the cd out to our whole unit,

and if you don’t get it, you let me

know.

You need to know what IT is

because right now as we’re

building IT, we’re helping others

get IT, and I’m at my peak

performance when I have IT.

We’re going with IT because we

are committed to doing IT in

2010. And we’re going to be

known in the MK world as the IT

National Area, and my charter

directors are going to be the

ORIGINAL IT GIRLS, and

anyone who debuts gets to join

the IT GIRL CLUB. I’m sure you

want to know what IT is, and

how to get IT, so you’ll have to

listen to the CD when you get it.

Until then, focus on the

GREAT FACE RACE. We’ll have

to see how many faces you have

to complete to really feel like you

have IT. Next time you’re

around, ask someone to show you

the sign, the one that shows

you’re an IT girl or an IT girl

wannabee. So proud to have you

a part of this quest we’re on to

become the IT National Area in

2010!

Sincerely,

Jeanie, an original IT GIRL!

Dear Scintillating Superstars,

As we ring in 2010 and continue our

quest to become a National Area, I

have truly realized what the Mary

Kay Go Give spirit means. So many

National Sales Directors have

offered their encouragement, their

advice, and their expertise. How

fortunate I feel to have them as

mentors. Our own NSD Sandy

Miller motivates, inspires and

believes it’s going to happen. NSD

Stacy James poured her heart into a

conference call for my Directors and

DIQs. NSD Glinda McGuire who has

a strategist’s mind and a servant’s

heart has shared ideas on how to

finish. And NSD Gloria Mayfield

Banks suggested I come up with a

theme that would carry us through

to National.

What theme could we use

that would be our distinctive

signature? It had to be something the

MK world would remember, and our

own units would identify with? After

much deliberation, I think I’ve got

IT, our theme, what we’re going to

be known for. It’s IT.

We’re going to be the area

with IT. I don’t know if you’ve

heard my IT speech that I gave on

the top director trip in Germany.

The speech was presented to the top 100 directors

in the country along with all the MK corporate staff

that come on these trips, like the president of MK

Darryl Overcash, and the vice presidents, Gary

Jinks, Sean Kay, Greg Franklin, and Annie

Josephson. That speech turned out to be a grand

slam,

THIS MONTH’S ISSUE OF:

Each month I will feature a different Future Martin Area Director in our newsletter.

Directors have all gone through many of the same issues that you have or may go through in your life and career.

Director Name: Yukari Hamann

Former Occupation: Corporate Administrator

City/State: Rolling Meadows, IL

Joined Mary Kay: March 13, 2002

Debuted as a director: February 1, 2008

# of months of driving free: 24 months

Highest commission check in one month: $2,500

What was the sequence of events that brought you into the company? (recruiting layering process)

I was a customer for one year, then decided to join Mary Kay as a personal use consultant when I was laid off from a company I had worked for more than 10 years. I did not think a lot as I was not going to sell at all. One by one, I started to have my own customers and started to enjoy being with them. While I was a consultant, I have attended „Perfect 10‟ at my senior director‟s house once a month, I started to enjoy learning about self improvement. Reading books became my hobby and at the same time, I started to get to know what is the core reason of Mary Kay business. I was adopted and attended weekly meetings every week. Mary Kay was a completely different world to me as I had to communicate only in English.

Why did you join? Even though I was not going to sell when I joined, I sold so much, I was in Sales Court year after

year. I was amazing myself! Slowly I became a woman with confidence and learned to have my own dream. I was

raised in a fairly rich family in Japan but the luxury life style had stopped when I got married and then divorced. I had to

learn to work to support my family, and I was living that life because I had to, and not because I wanted to.

Why did you want to become a director? Every Mary Kay director I talked to had self confidence and enthusiasm. I

wanted to be like them. I wanted to live like them. As I gave up a luxury life a long time ago, I decided to give myself the

life I wanted and not depend on someone else. I know I have changed to a better person with my Mary Kay education

and I wanted to share my experiences with others. I decided to become a director. My biggest dream as a director is to

become an International Director and teach the Mary Kay way to women abroad.

Has there been a dark season? Of course there were dark nights in my Mary Kay career, but somehow I always reminded myself that I deserve the better life. Maybe I am a natural born optimist. When everyone was saying, “My mom bought this. My aunt joined my team,” I honestly felt uneasy as all of my family and relatives are in Japan.

What is the one thing that was difficult for you or you were afraid of in this business? I am not a warm chatter person. If I had to build my business from warm chattering, I would have left Mary Kay a long time ago. My understanding is everyone is different, and I don‟t need to warm chatter if I choose not to. I built my client base from referrals and I love that. I started with one client and built a client base of over 200.

Page 11: Newsletter for Dec 2009

Page 11

During what time period did you have the greatest growth of income and what was the growth? Self confidence was the growth I needed. As I gained self confidence, I started to sell a lot which gave me more self confidence. I also found myself apply the Golden Rule to my customers. As I became a director, I applied the Golden Rule to my consultants. The more I use the rule, the happier I felt inside. One sister director pointed out one of my weaknesses but assured me that everything would be fine if I applied that kind of advice which I

never received in the corporate world.

What do you attribute the growth? Mary Kay education teaches you to surround yourself with the people you admire and want to be like. I surely advise that. In my case, I enjoy talking with my sister directors as they teach me the true meaning of how to lead as a human being. I know I have changed a lot since I became a director. I truly believe that Mary Kay Ash wanted us to learn about LOVE for others through this business.

.

What advice would you give a consultant who wants to be a Director? Since I became a director, I truly realize that each person is different. I learned to take a deep breath and understand how they were unique to understand them fully. It gives me pleasure when I see positive changes in my consultants. When one husband sent me an email asking me what could he do to help her business grow, my heart was filled with joy. We are here on this earth for reasons. Each has her own reason, and I feel I am very lucky that I am a part of their lives. Everything happens for a reason. Good or bad. I honestly believe that. The Mary Kay business is really a vehicle to reach THAT reason. We are selling the same products but we each have different goals. I am very honored to be a director helping consultants to achieve their goals.
