    YEAR 6 TOTEM POLE

CREATIONS!To fully immerse the pupils in the 'Hola

Mexico' topic, the year 6's have taken part

in a month long design and technology

    workshop which required them to

collaboratively design and construct two 6ft

Totem poles which will be completed this

Friday (12th February). We are currently

deciding on the most suitable place for the

Totem poles to be displayed outdoors, the

date for this is to be confirmed.

GLORIOUS GIGANTIGUTFollowing the success of last year's amazing

Gigantigut (built on the school field by Year 4)

two budding journalists from Year 4, Caoimhe

Burn and Ben Griffiths, are featured in the latest

edition of the popular children's magazine'National Geographic Kids'. Their short report

and one of the awesome photographs take pride

of place in the centre of the Junior Reporters'

club pages and NG Kids stated that they wished

they'd been able to make something like it when

they were at school! Well done to all of Year 4!

FOREST CREW3RS had a fantastic afternoon doing Forest Crew activities with

Mrs McCrory and Mr Rowe, all focused on the theme of 'friendship'

They worked in teams, making maps of the local area using natural

materials. The session finished with a lively game of ' Mouse, Man,

Mammoth', a chasing version of 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'.

I am an artist who primarily works with textile and embroidery techniques, questioning and exploring sculptural potential.

I have recently returned from an art residency in Mexico where I was taught new stitches and back strap loom weaving by

local artisans. By experiencing how textile art is valued differently across the world, my concepts and knowledge broaden.

I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to teach what I have learnt and share my ideas with Broad Oak Primary School.

The work we produce together provides the children opportunity to develop tactile awareness, aiming to give them

confidence in their creative abilities and potential.

    SCHOOL MEALS ARREARS AND OTHER

PAYMENTS TO SCHOOLPlease can we ask that Parents keep up to date with payments due for

School meals, trips, Nursery fees etc. We would ask that all arrears are

settled before the end of half term. If you would like to discuss an

outstanding account please call the school office.

    Thank you.

SCHOOL MEALSJust a reminder that a half terms notice is required in writing to change

a child's dinner pattern from school meals to packed lunch or packed

lunch to school meals. For parents not yet signed up for Parent Pay,

log in details are available from the office if you need them.

An Afternoon of Sharing: Maths EventOn Wednesday families were invited to join our year group

teams to find out how we teach division at Broad Oak. The

sessions were well attended and very informative for parents

with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. We look

forward to holding similar events in the future.

TRAFFIC AND WALKING SURVEYTraffic continues to be an issue around school with people

parking inconsiderately and in some cases blocking footpaths.

Yesterday your child should have brought home a letter

detailing an audit that we are undertaking to understandbarriers to walking to school in conjunction with Living

Streets. If you complete the survey and return it to school by

24th February you will be entered into a draw to win a 10

    voucher.

We also need volunteers to help with the audit. Living

Streets will be completing their audit on our behalf on

Thursday 3rd March at 9am. The process should take about

1 hours approx. If you would like to be involved and help

improve the situation outside school please contact

    Mr. Corteen. [email protected]
