9th December 2016 Term 4: Week 9/10
Final newsletter for 2016
As the year comes to an end, it is time to reflect on all we have achieved at Nashdale
throughout the year and celebrate how our students have progressed and developed over
the past four terms. I have been so proud of the academic progress that has been made
but also how the children have worked hard to reflect our RIPE qualities of Respect, Integri-
ty, Pride and Engagement.
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who are completing their primary education. We
hope that you can take the education, values and wonderful memories from your time at
Nashdale and build on them in the next stage of your formal schooling. You will be missed
and we all look forward to hearing about your achievements in High School.
I would personally like to thank the staff of Nashdale for the high quality educational programs they deliver to
our students. Every one of them puts in countless hours outside of school to ensure that each child can achieve
their best. I am truly fortunate to lead such a dynamic team of educators who are constantly working to improve
their practise and delivery to ensure the best outcomes for our students.
I extend gratitude and appreciation to the many parents and community members of our wonderful school for
their ongoing support in so many ways. Your efforts weave the foundation for quality education and a life-long
love of learning in our students.
To our students – every day (usually……) you amaze us with your passion, boundless energy (always….) and curi-
osity. It has been a pleasure to work with you and we are looking forward to guiding you again next year on your
learning journey.
On behalf of the staff of Nashdale Public, we wish you a very festive season and a safe and happy holiday with
your families and friends.
School Leaders
Congratulations to the Year 5 students who all presented outstanding leadership speeches last Friday. It made
our decision extremely difficult. So many community members, parents and students commented on the quality
and heartfelt sentiments in the speeches. This week a member of the P&C and staff unsealed the envelopes and
used a preferential voting system to determine our 2017 School Leadership Team. They will be announced at the
Presentation Evening and receive their badges in a special ceremony on Friday 17th February (2.30pm) 2017.
School Reports
Reports will be sent home with students on Tuesday 15th December. Please advise if you need any reports sent
to an additional parental address. Interviews will again be held in Term1 to set learning goals for 2017. Dates for
interviews are Wednesday 22nd and Monday 27th February, 2017. Booking details for these interviews will be
available closer to the time.
Farewell Anna McLeish
Sadly we announce that Ms McLeish will be leaving Nashdale and the teaching profession at the end of the year.
She has decided to embark on a different career and has been offered a position in a local Real Estate Agency. We
congratulate Miss McLeish on her change of career position and wish her all the best.
We are thrilled to welcome Ms Melanie Winters to the teaching staff at Nashdale in 2017. She will be teaching
2/3 class on Thursdays and Fridays with Mrs Dennis and will also be our new Nashdale School Librarian, with a fo-
cus on project based inquiry learning.
Message from Miss McLeish
Thank you Nashdale for making me feel part of your wonderful community. The support I have received from
many has been quite overwhelming. As I now embark on a new adventure I will always hold this special school in
my heart. Merry Christmas to all.
Transition Fees
Our Transition Program was established in 2011 at a cost of $40.00 per day. We have been working hard over the years to maintain this not for profit price structure.
We have currently been imputing the budget for 2017 and, to cover the increasing cost in wages and resources, we find it necessary to increase the daily amount to $45.00 (instead of previously advised $40.00 per day). This price increase will commence at the beginning of Term 1 2017. We apologise for the increase, but it is unavoida-ble to ensure the continuation of this service. Grandfriends Day
We had a lovely time hosting our Grandparents and Grandfriends last Fri-
day. Thank you to Mrs Mellis and Mrs Miller for coordinating the event.
Grandparents were treated to Devonshire Tea, card making, biscuit mak-
ing, Christmas craft, games, interviews and many other activities. Thank
you to all our Grandparent and Grandfriends.
“Grandparents are the footsteps to the future generations”
Nashdale Carols and Disco
It was lovely to see so many families at our Nashdale Community Carols last Friday evening. Thank you to all the
boys and girls for their performances including our drummers and recorder group. As always, we thank Mr Gra-
ham Sattler for his compering of the evening and to the P&C for their contribution to provide a book for all stu-
dents from Transition to Year 6. There were some very happy faces!
The disco was a great success and students and teachers enjoyed showing off their dance moves! A definite for
the calendar next year.

Holiday Maintenance
During the annual holidays, we will be having an extensive clean of all classrooms. An industrial clean of the toi-
lets, septic tank cleaning and pest controllers carrying out external sprays to control creepy crawlies.
Please do not be alarmed if you see these companies in the school grounds during the holidays.
Banjo Patterson Festival
Students in Years 3 –6 will be performing at the Banjo Patterson Festival Poetry in the park. In preparation for this
we are requesting students to learn the poem during the holidays as a continuation of work in the classroom.
Years 3 & 4 students will learn “Mulga Bills Bicycle” and Years 5 & 6 students will learn “The Man from Ironbark”.
A copy has been sent home with the students.
Casual Clothes Day—Thursday 15th December
Students are permitted to wear casual clothes on Thursday in order to keep uniforms in pristine condition for
Presentation Night.
