My Favourite BandFlorence and the Machine

Whilst I have a very varied taste in music, without a doubt my favourite band has to be Florence and the Machine due to their very unique and distinctive sound.

Classified as an indie rock band, Florence and the Machine were formed in London in 2007 and consist of lead singer Florence Welch, keyboardist Isabella Summers, and a collaboration of other artists.

Whilst not known for being mainstream, they regularly achieve chart-topping songs. The band's music is renowned for its dramatic and eccentric production and also Welch's powerful vocal performances.

Instead of banking on the success of their individual singles, Florence and the Machine’s longevity is down to the critical acclaim of their albums. They have released three studio albums, two live albums, five extended plays, 18 singles, two promotional singles and 23 music videos.

Lungs, Ceremonials, and How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, (their three studio albums) have all achieved multiple certifications and awards (including each of them becoming the number 1 album in the UK).

According to Keith Negus’ theory, the band can be seen as ‘organic’ given how they are all about their music, rather than their success, sales, or image.

They produce a new album roughly every four years.

For their latest album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, released in 2015, the music videos created each tell a different chapter in the same enigmatic, artistic story entitled ‘The Odyssey’. Instead of creating a video of lip-syncing and flashing colours, the band decided to tell a story which to them was of the upmost importance and thus shows their individual brilliance.
