What is the Internet?
Reflection Spot
Do you know what Internet is? Do you know how it works?
Internet is a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication
facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
It is resolved of ARPANET. Working of internet can be explained by this diagram,
The correct pattern to access the site with the domain name is Connect to a network>Open the
browser> Type the site domain name in address bar>Open the site page
How the Internet works
Reflection Spot
Do you know how information travels from your computer to other networks?
Answer: via routers , cables, packets
Informations is transferred in binary language i.e. 1 and 0
Information can be transferred by electricity (1- on; 0-off), light and radio
Method Pro Con
Electricity Cheap Signal Loss
Light Fast, no signal loss Expensive, difficult to work
with
Radio Totally Mobile Shprt Range
Bandwidth- maximum transmission capacity of a device.
bit-rate- no of bit that can be send over a period of time.
Latency- time taken by a bit to travel from 1 place to another.
Fibre Optic Cable- a thread of glass engineered to reflect light.
Some Internet Protocols 28/September/2018
The rules and procedures that manage the movement of data packets constitute network
protocols.
The Internet: HTTP & HTML
HTTP: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (language used to communicate between web browser and
servers)
HTML: Hyper Text Markup Language
URL: Uniform Resource Locator
Reflection Spot
Think of what happens when you write and send an email to your friend. What do you think are
the activities/processes taking place from the time you send it to the time you receive a response?
Answer: data travels from my computer to server in packet and than to my friends server.
LeD 2.1: Tools for Website Creation
Needs and various options available to setup a simple website for teaching and research faculty
are explained.
Websites classification:
a) Simple: Use WORDPRESS.. few pages, blogs etc

LED 1: VISUAL PRESENTATION SKILLS 1
Dr. Sameer Sahastrabudhe gives details about Visual Presentation skill. He specifically focuses
on following three steps on visual presentation:
Plan – Execute - Impress Plan - Brainstorm, analyze, organize
Execute - outline bulleted details, graphics
Impress - Color schemes, types of fonts, effects, visual appeal While discussing on the Graphics
he elaborates various aspects like:
Static Graphics: Drawing/Illustrations, photographs, charts/tables/graphs
Motion Graphics: Videos, animations
Graphic Types:
Decorative: used to catch the attention of the viewer
Photograph: Depiction of the realistic way the object is
Mnemonic: Used for covering a graphic in a form that the brain remembers it better
Organizational: Used for qualitative representation
Relational: Quantitative representation ex. graphs & pie charts
Transformational: Changes over space & Time
Interpretive: Illustrates a theory or a principle
VISUAL PRESENTATION SKILLS 2
Reflection Spot:: Given that you know how to design visuals from the previous learning
dialogue, what do you think are the considerations you have to make when using fonts and colors
in slide design? How many font types, font sizes and colours will you use in the design of your
slides?
Question: Write your responses to above questions in your course journal.
Answer: Wile processing the slide design, I will consider following points:
Font: Usually I prefer to use Times New Roman, Cambria, Arial
Number of Font: I mostly use three fonts one for heading, 2nd for sub heading and 3 rd for
other content.
Font Size: Main Heading 32, Sub Heading 28 and Remaining Content in 22 to 24
Color: Mostly to color combination I mostly prefer i.e. Dark Brown or Black on white or
Cream color Background. And for any Author quotes, definition I use italic font type.
In this second part of Visual Presentation Skill, Dr. Sameer Sahastrabudhe emphasis on colour
Guideline, Typography Guidelines, Impress Guidelines and general Guidelines:
Use of color Schemes: It communicates conventional meanings at times.
Color Guidelines:
More Contrast = More Readability
Dim Lit Room = White text on Black
Bright Room = Black Text on white
Vivid / Pale colors = Less Readability
Color scheme to suit your topic Typography (Use of Fonts)
Question: Write down various ways in which you can emphasize a word using typography
options
Answer: Normal, Bold, Underline, Italic, color
Typography Guidelines:
Use minimum Fonts: 2 are advisable
Use Font Options to Emphasize: 1 is advisable. 2 can be used rarely
Use alignment Feature: left is preferred
Use Grid Impress Guidelines Audience gets taken away from the message. Form over/&
Function: both are important.
Take Aways
Let content and its application „decide‟ the use of mediums font, color, type of graphic
Follow well researched guidelines while using the chosen mediums
Test them before presenting
Use 6*6 rule
Choose a template which promotes readability
Use phrases and abbreviated sentences, rather than full sentences
Use a sans serif font and use them 24pt or larger
Use high quality graphics
Provide references to ANY artifact that you see for someone elses‟ presentation, website,
paper lecture etc
Use animation, slide transitions, audio and video sparingly
Highlight the most important information
Create a handout to accompany your presentation
Created a Presentation

Creative Common Licensing 3/10/2018
When sharing our resources to other people through the Internet or when we use readymade
content from the Internet, we always have to think of licenses. That is, the owner of the content
and the way we can use such content. Creative Commons (CC) is one way that offers public
license which allows you to set the way you want other people to use your content (open
educational resources) and how the already available content can be used by others. Licenses and
Examples
Attribution CC BY : This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your
work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most
accommodating of licenses offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of
licensed materials.
Attribution ShareAlike CC BY-SA: This license lets oth
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike CC BY-NC-SA: This license lets others remix,
tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their
new creations under the identical terms.
Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs CC BY-NC-ND: This license is the most restrictive
of our six main licenses, only allowing others to download your works and share them with
others as long as they credit you, but they can‟t change them in any way or use them
commercially.
LED3.3: SPOKEN TUTORIAL PROJECT
In this learning dialogue Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, explains how Spoken Tutorial Project at IIT
Bombay utilizes the video creation process He tells about the various OER Open Educational
Resources like Khan Academy, NPTEL, MOOCS, OCUU. In this he tells us about OER Spoken
Tutorial. The spoken Tutorials are available in all 22 Indian regional languages. In Spoken
tutorial the script is created first and then the audio file .
How to Use Cam Studio: It is screen recording software. It records all activities that you see on
your screen and allows you to pay them back later on. It can be used to:
Demonstrate features of new software.
Create audio-video tutorials for school / colleges
It Shows How to perform an activity.
Create AVI files to Flash (SWF) files and many of uses
It is a Open Source Software
How to run Cam studio is a technical feature before to make video showed in video.

MULTIMEDIA PRINCIPLES DATE: 4/10/2018
Video provides multimedia principles like:
• Redundancy Principles: People learn more deeply from graphics and narration than graphics,
narration and on screen text.
• Coherence Principle: People learn deeply from multimedia message.
• Spatica Principle: People learn deeply from multimedia message, corresponding words and
pictures posted near rather than for on the page or screen.
Video of Interview with Prof. Richard E. Mayer:
He is an American educational psychologist and has contributed in the general areas of
cognition and learning. He is answering on questions like:
How might we best design video to achieve to learning objectives in a higher education
setting?
What do teachers or lectures need to know in order to be able to use video and / or multimedia
effectively?
How should we produce video in order to increase te odds of it achieving its learning
objectives for those who use it?
LED 3.5: PEER REVIEW PROCESS: WHAT WHY AND HOW?
PR is a common practice for building quality resources and is extensively used in scientific
publication. It is accepted practice assessing open-ended program. Following best practice for
peer review:
Provide clear instructions on what has to be done by the students.
Explain in detail the criteria used to reviewing.
Provide training to students to do a peer review.
Asking students to provide detailed comments while reviewing.
Question: Can you tell one advantage of the process of peer review for both the reviewer and the
reviewee?
Answer: Feedback for reviewee and Good feedback clarity for reviewer. PR process is
Submission – Allocation – Review – Consolidation
