Civic Engagementand Service LearningHelp improve the lives of others as

you gain valuable skills, network with

professionals, and build your resume.

Civic engagement is active participation

in public life for the good of the

community. Service learning combines

community service and classroom

learning. It emphasizes critical, reflective

thinking, and personal and civic

responsibility.

How can youget involved?Past student projects have included

helping new mothers cope with the

challenges and joys of parenting,

working with children at an early

childhood education center, improving

the environment, organizing food drives

for homeless shelters, and lobbying

government officials on important

issues. Learn as you research, identify,

and report on rare and endangered

species; teach senior citizens computer

skills; or mentor at-risk youth.

Depending on your major and your

interests, the possibilities are limited
