Music Magazine & Audience Analysis

WIRE

Age range and gender of audience

• The magazine is aimed at a slightly older audience, of around 35+. This may be indicated by some of the genres of music that the magazine covers, such as jazz and modern classical, which may not be as appealing for younger audiences.• This is not a very popular, mainstream magazine, but it covers different genres of music from the mainstream music to appeal to both sexes. This can also be suggested by their simplistic, usually non-objective front covers to keep the magazine open and inviting for whichever gender.

Genres of music

• The magazine tends to cover different genres from the mainstream music such as:

oAvant rockoBreakbeatoJazzoModern classicaloElectronicaoAnd other forms of music given the fact that the magazine is 100% independent, which means that they have the full freedom to cover limitless amounts of genres.

Examples of favourite bands/artists

It is clear that WIRE readers do not have one particular genre of music they are interested in, hence their interests in bands and artists are from all parts of the spectrum. Readers will like to listen to some mainstream music such as Wolf Eyes and Panda Bear, as well as less popular music. Nevertheless, a whole range of albums and artists are reviewed in each issue, which means that the magazine is able to cater for the needs and interests of the masses.

Types of clothes they wear

These are the styles I visualise for the readers of The Wire. These outfits are casual because I believe that part of the magazine’s ideology is less about fashion and more about music, hence Wire readers will care a small amount about their appearance. It can also be noted that Wire readers do not tend to wear many high-end fashion labels as they do not have a high disposable income. Moreover, they are probably the type to wear recycled clothing and be environmentally friendly, so the concept of buying new clothes would be unlikely.

Types of jobs they might have

• Referring to the general registrar scale, I believe that the Wire readers are probably within the BCD range, hence they will have a mixture of white and blue collar jobs. The majority of Wire readers will probably be in some type of employment, be it part-time or full-time, including jobs such as:

Junior managers to accountants to freelance graphic designers

In my view, I believe The Wire readers are more likely to have creative jobs such as graphic designers or writers, although many will have inspirations to work within the music industry and producers and such.

Hobbies/Interests

• The Wire readers will enjoy attending gigs and concerts of different genres, as well as festivals with close friends• They will be interested in finding out about and following up and

coming artists before they go mainstream• Moreover, many readers will like to experiment with producing their

own music, possibly having their own DJ events or busking• Furthermore, I believe that some of their hobbies will consist of

reading, art and theatre – they will be cultured.
