Electronic instruments
You will need: • A pencil (colours optional)
▪ 1. Early electronic instruments
Here is a riddle: name an instrument that you play with your hands but never touch. Have you guessed the answer? It is a theremin! This unusual instrument makes sound without anyone touching it.
▪ 2. Electronic instrument study
Choose 1 electronic instrument that you find interesting and would like to learn
more about.
Options: 1. Drum machine, 2. Synthesizer, 3. Launchpad, 4. GarageBand
Invented by Leon Theremin in 1928, this was one of the first mass-produced electronic instruments. The eerie sound of the instrument is often used in movies. How does a theremin work? It has an antenna that can detect the player's hand nearby. The left hand controls the volume and the right hand controls the pitch. Try playing this virtual theremin: https://theremin.app/
