Key stage 3 projects include world music, such as African drumming and Samba, a variety of popular music styles, such as Reggae, Britpop and Rock n Roll, and projects based on advert and film music using music technology to name a few. There is a strong emphasis placed on the elements of music and creativity through performing, composing and listening activities. A number of pupils receive instrumental tuition and the school has a thriving extra-curricular programme, which includes Choirs, String Ensemble, Jazz Band, Wind band, and other small ensembles, all of which perform in an annual series of concerts and recitals in and out of school. The school has an excellent team of visiting instrumental tutors covering orchestral/band instruments and guitars. The successful applicant will be a creative and dynamic practitioner who: has a thorough understanding of the purpose, content and rationale behind music teaching can maintain the high standards achieved in the subject and can adapt their teaching to challenge pupils with varying abilities has good classroom management skills and high expectations of behaviour has the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and parents is willing to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the department has experience of using music software such as Sibelius or other sequencing programs has competent keyboard skills (desirable)
