Lunch 11:25-12:05

• Please come eat lunch with your child in the cafeteria after we track back in.

• Money takes a few days to process when you add it on the online account.

• Send lunch money (or any other money) with your child in a labeled wallet or envelope.

• I recommend keeping some money in your child’s lunch account for days that he/she forgets his lunch. Students without a lunch box or money will receive a fruit and vegetable tray.

Email and Daily Folder

• Email is a great way to communicate with me most of the time. The Daily Folder is also checked each day for parent/teacher communication.

• When children are absent, I need a handwritten note in order to excuse the absence.

• I usually check my email before and after school. If the message is about a urgent matter, such as a change in transportation, please send a note in the daily folder.

Positive Behavior System

Following routines, learning guidelines/procedures, following directions, sharing, getting along with others and making and maintaining friendships are some critical social/emotional expectations of kindergarten. We encourage the children by acknowledging their behavior and giving them positive and frequent feedback when they are being appropriate.

Individual and Corporate Behavior

• Each day Ms. Denton and I will communicate with you about your child’s behavior on a calendar in the Tuesday folder. On the calendar, students will receive a color (green, yellow, or red) based on their behavior that day. Green indicates that a child behaved appropriately all day. Please praise them for a job well done! Yellow indicates that a child broke school rules and received several warnings. Red indicates that a child chose not to follow classroom/school rules after excessive warnings. Students will be rewarded on Fridays if they have earned greens everyday that week.

• Please initial and return the calendar each day. Your participation is crucial for reinforcing and rewarding good behaviors, as well as improving inappropriate ones.

PROWL Tickets

• Both the class and individuals have the opportunity to earn PROWL tickets when they are “caught” working hard at following school guidelines. Whenever the class earns 10 PROWL tickets, they will have the opportunity to choose a reward (picnic lunch, 15 extra minutes of centers, etc). They will vote on the reward each time.

• Individuals who have earned PROWL tickets will put the tickets in a can and we will draw a couple out each day for a reward (lunch in the class, sit beside a friend, etc.) This is a positive way to encourage appropriate behavior.

Book Log HomeworkEvery night read your child a story or listen to him/her read a story to you. Record

the title on the book log. Turn in the log at the end of each month. Make reading with your child a happy, relaxing experience.

1. Put your child on your lap or right next to you. Find the front and back cover.

2. Point to the title and explain that the title tells what the book is about.

3. Before and during reading, encourage your child to look at the pictures and to talk about what they see. Discuss what is happening in the pictures and then ask them to predict what will happen next.

4. Ask questions such as: Who was your favorite character in the story? Where does this story take place? How do you know? Have you ever done anything like the people/animals in the story?

5. Point to the words as you read. Explain that words are made from letters and that words tell the story. When you finish reading a page, show them where to go next.

6. Point out the periods.
