Dear Family:

I trust that you all had a wonderful and Blessed Christmas day. I apologize that

some of you could not get a copy of last week’s bulle-tin due to technical difficulties we could not have it ready for the printers in time and they sent us one box with a “dummy” bulletin.

It is fitting that on this the last bulletin of the year I give thanks to all of you. Especially those that have worked so hard for the Glory of God in their ministries; I have to give thanks to our staff, Rosy, Tony and Omar, without them we truly would not be able to function. Thanks also to Felipe for opening the church and classrooms for the different ministries and for closing the church every night.

Thanks to Sarita, Nelly, Rosaura, Teresa, Julita, Juan and Alba for the beautiful Nativity Scene. Albertina, and the troop for the many hours decorat-ing our sanctuary for Christmas; to the Sacristans and Liturgy committee, Ivan Rios and choirs for the beau-tiful liturgical celebrations. I know that I have forgot-ten to mention many of you, please forgive me and know that I am forever grateful and God knows your names and he is rewarding you.

Thanks to Ms. Evelyn Salinas, teachers and the School staff – I am so proud for all that you do to make our School one of the best in the Archdiocese. We are still growing and we are growing strong thanks to efforts of the parents and staff. We can all be proud of Mother of Our Redeemer Catholic School and our students!

My heartfelt thanks to all of you, our beloved family of Mother of Our Redeemer, without you there is no community. May the Lord shower you with his grace and blessing in the New Year and may we all enjoy his peace.

Happy and Prosperous New Year!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Today we are reminded of the Holy Family and the role of family in our lives. If you have children, you know that their upbringing is a huge responsibil-ity, involving hard work, anxiety, and distress as well as moments of joy. You understand Mary and Joseph and the frantic search, as well as the mixture of im-mense relief and annoyance when they found Jesus. Maybe your own family is not that ideal family, but is somehow divided. Healing hurts begins in love. Per-haps one can bridge the distances with more contact, disagreements by sincere attempts to reconcile, and divorce—for all its pains and grieves—by learning to love again. The early Christians’ agape, translated as “charity” in scripture, expresses a love greater than family love or sexual love; it is the love that God has for us and wants us to share. If we each become aware that God loves us as beloved children we can spread that love to the unloved in words, deeds, and attitude. Don’t wait, start now!

Our Lady of Pilgrims Under this title Mary is venerated in Manila in the Philippines as patroness of pilgrims, travelers, expectant mothers, childless couples, midwives, the sick, and health workers. Her pilgrimage to visit her cousin Elizabeth is recalled in the straw hat that she wears and her wooden staff with a gourd of oil at the tip.

We are family… By Evelyn Salinas, School Principal

Families living far from Jerusalem were not required by law to attend the feasts of Passover, Pente-cost, and Tabernacles. However, Mary and Joseph were very devout and chose with members of their family and community to make the long journey to Jerusalem to observe these holy days. On the journey home, Mary and Joseph could not find Jesus but assumed he was with other members of the traveling group. Once they had searched for him everywhere without finding him, they returned to Jerusalem where they continued to search for another three days. Finally, they found him sitting in the temple with teachers who were amazed at his knowledge and answers to their questions. Je-sus was surprised by his parents' concern and commented only that he was doing the work of his Father. Some parents may find it unbelievable that Mary and Joseph could have left Jerusalem without making sure they had Jesus with them. These might be the same parents who found the concept of the movie, Home Alone, unthinkable. But some parents can identify with the confusion that comes with a change in routine, extra company, and travel plans can create. While we think we have every-thing under control, one critical piece is missing but doesn't come to our attention for a period of time. Most oversights are forgivable, but those of us, who have lost track of a child, even for a few minutes, can identify with the grief and anxiety Mary and Joseph must have felt during the days they searched the travel party and Jerusalem for Jesus. Like most children, Jesus seemed rather non-plused at the state of his parents when at last they found him. While all parents strive to do their best, most fall short of the goal from time to time. Hopefully we can all smile and find a little reas-surance in the fact that a family, holy like ours, also misplaced a child. All of our families are holy. Make a family collage of holy moments. Using photos, drawings, or cut-out clippings from magazines, think of all the people, events, and times that make your family holy. Include your extended family if possible and invite them to either share stories in the process or share the final product with them. Round table with the family 1. A time when I was lost (or someone I love was lost) and really frightened happened when … 2. My greatest contribution to our family is … 3. One way I can be more obedient (or helpful) to those who love me is …
