SUNDAY MASS PROCESSION ANTIPHON: Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel: Hosanna in the highest. GOSPEL: Matthew 21:1-11. PSALMS: 24 and 47. MASS FIRST READING: Isaiah 50:4-7. RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Psalm 22. RESPONSE: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? 1. All who see me deride me; they curl their lips, they toss their heads: ‘He trusted in the Lord, let him save him; let him release him, for in him he delights’. 2. For dogs have surrounded me; a band of the wicked besets me. They tear holes in my hands and my feet; I can count every one of my bones. 3. They divide my clothing among them, they cast lots for my robe. But you, O Lord, do not stay afar off; my strength, make haste to help me! 4.I will tell of your name to my kin, and praise you in the midst of the assembly; ‘You who fear the Lord, give him praise; all descendants of Jacob, give him glory; revere him, all you descendants of Israel’. SECOND READING: Philippians 2:6-11. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: Glory and praise to you, O Christ. Christ became obedient for us unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him; and bestowed on him the name which is above every name. Glory and praise to you, O Christ. GOSPEL: Matthew 26:14-27:66. COMMUNION ANTIPHON: Father, if this chalice cannot pass without my drinking it, your will be done. Jesus Dies Jesus dies on the Cross – a painting by Maud Sumner in St Mary’s Cathedral, Cape Town W E ALL know what it is like to be lost for words. In the face of birth or death we struggle to find words to express ourselves. When we try to meditate on the 12th Station of the Cross, we are often lost for words in the face of the death of the Son of God. As we kneel at this Station we can at least let the words of Jesus from his Cross speak to our hearts. The Gospels record seven ‘last words’ of Jesus which Christians everywhere cherish. The first is a word of mercy and compassion: Father, forgive them, they do not know what they are doing. Forgiveness is a word which brings us straight to the heart of the mystery of redemption: the forgiveness of sins. This word reminds us that we are a forgiven people, that forgiveness is always possible, that none of us can begin to imagine the extent of God’s forgiveness in Christ. Forgiveness is personal. So the second word from the Cross is addressed to the ‘good thief’: I promise you today you will be with me in paradise. The promise of the dying Jesus to the dying thief reminds us of the good that remains in every human heart – even to the very end. The third word is an expression of divine intimacy and love: Woman this is your son; this is your mother. By this bequest we all receive a spiritual mother to help us on our way of the cross. I thirst. This anguished cry from the parched lips of Jesus also refers to his longing for all humanity to share in the beauty of the kingdom of God. Jesus still thirsts – for each one of us. Perhaps the most distressing of all words, Why? startles us. When Jesus quotes psalm 23: My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? we get a glimpse of the inner passion of Jesus as he experiences the godforsakenness common to so many people. There is no human anguish alien to the dying Jesus. The sixth word from the cross reveals something of the intimate tenderness between Father and Son: Father into your hands I commend my spirit. Christian history shows how many saints followed the example of Jesus using the same prayer at the approach of their death. It is a prayer of utter abandonment and confidence in the Father who loves divinely. The last word of all is a peaceful acknowledge- ment not just that this phase of the life of Jesus is over but that the work given him by the Father is completed: It is accomplished. Each of these holy words from the cross can nourish our own journey of faith, addressing both our sorrows and our joys, our hopes and fears, all leading to a fulfilment in God. I love you Jesus my love, above all things. I repent with my whole heart of having offended you. Never permit to separate myself from you again, Grant that I may love you always and then do with me what you will. LENTEN PRAYER 6

Loving God, I am just beginning to realize how much you love me.

Your son, Jesus was humble and obedient. He fulfilled your will for him by becoming human and suffering with us.

I ask you for the desire to become more humble

so that my own life might also bear witness to you. I want to use the small sufferings I have in this world

to give you glory.

Please, Lord, guide my mind with your truth. Strengthen my life by the example of Jesus.

Help me to be with Jesus in this week

as he demonstrates again his total love for me. He died so that I would no longer

be separated from you. Help me to feel how close you are

and to live in union with you.

Your time and talent is needed

We have a number of smaller tasks and projects that need to be done. Anyone interested in the following should please contact Theresa at the Parish office:

Asset Inventory: We urgently need a small team of 2 or 3 parishioners to update our list of all assets in the parish for insurance purposes. This requires a person(s) to take the current list and walk through each room and surrounds and confirm items still in place and add any new ones. It can be done in a day or over a few days.

Parish Notice Boards: Our notice boards in the porch require new press board backings and felt coverings. If you are interested in taking on this project or quoting for the work please contact Paddy on 0836290529

Guard Hut We would like to upgrade our guard hut to a nutech (non wood) or similar structure. Pa-rishioners who would like to assist or provide a quotation please contact Paddy (083 6290529) for specifications and more info.

Adoration Group

Do remember that your participation of an hour a week in Adoration is a wonderful per-sonal prayerful opportunity and important contribution to continuous prayer and aware-ness of the Blessings from our Savior within our Parish. Try it and reap the benefits.

Treasure

Bequests and Donations

Have you considered a bequest to the parish to help maintain our buildings and facilities? Holy Redeemer is an active Parish and needs to ensure our facilities are fitting and func-tional for Faith Building, Sharing and Exploring. Your bequest will leave a legacy for the Parish for the future generations. Bequests can be for specified or more general use.

Parish Finances ytd

Our parish income from collections has shown a 2.7% increase over last year. Our ex-penses have increased by 5.6%, both are below inflation of 6.3%, but we would of course prefer the 5’s to be the other way round. Overall we have been blessed with donations and support aside from collections that are helping cover the running costs of the parish, for which we are extremely grateful. Parish support of fund raising events does make a significant contribution. A copy of the financials are available from Gladys or Theresa at the office or contact Pad-dy 083 6290529 for more information.

Working together by sharing me and talent to build our Parish

and create opportunies for worship for all as a vibrant

and welcoming expression of our Catholic Faith.
