Lent

Kids truly do see God... zied “I’ve got to get this list of things done before dinner!” moments. Al-though at first I was a bit frustrated to be once again interrupted from some-thing that must have been very important (though for the life of me I can’t re-member what it was), I was refreshingly reminded about nature’s beauty as she so joyfully pointed out the colors of the sky as the

Hello Holy Redeemer. Have you seen the family with the six young kids in tow who is usually leaving a trail of Cheer-ios behind them? That’s us, the Schroeder family. When we’re not work-ing, going to school, preparing meals, clean-ing up the messes and all the other normal daily activities of a large family, we love experi-encing all the beauty of nature that God made for us to enjoy on earth. Jesus my Lord, let me strengthen my courage by taking on the courage of all those people

who have been "centurions" for me. Many have faced disasters and hard times with great

constancy. The upper hand of evil never turned them against you. They kept going. Let me

be like them, Lord. No matter what the cross, let me never stop declaring you to be "truly

the Son of God, the source of my hope, the reason why I will never quit on life. ~Amen

Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation

Reconciliation will also be

It is so easy to be blind to God in our fast-paced

world. It is easy to forget that He alone is the

reason we are here. It is easy to forget that He

alone should be our aim. When we do have mo-

ments of clarity in our faith, experiencing God in

a deeper way, it is difficult to know how to grow

or even sustain our new understanding. My hope

is that I will introduce you to some resources that may

guide you in this journey, as they do me when I choose to

We all care for someone else in some way

or another at some time in our lives: par-

ents for children and children for parents,

aunts for nieces and nephews, grandpar-

ents for children, and friends for each

other. Regardless of how easy or difficult

this may be, we also need to remember to

take care of ourselves. Jesus took care of

Himself; He modeled for us self-care be-

haviors. Below are some of them.

He cared for His physical body. In His ministry He walked

everywhere He went. Not only did it get Him from place

to place, but it helped Him stay healthy. He ate well.

Fresh fruits and vegetables were a regular part of His diet.

He did not have McDonalds or Wendy’s on His travels to

stop by and get a burger. He ate such things as fish, bread,

figs, grains, non-processed foods. He also rested and slept

regularly, even when He was being sought after by many.

Self-Care

Holy Redeemer Parish Nurse

He cared for His emotional health. He did

not go it alone. He called the 12 apostles

to be His close group of friends. They not

only supported Him in His lifetime, but

continued His ministry after He ascended

to heaven. He taught them and nurtured

them as they supported and loved Him. I

can imagine them laughing as they shared

time together. I am sure they cried

together in sorrow and frustration as well.

He cared for His spiritual health. He often withdrew to quiet

places to pray and spend time with His Father, God. He so

loved and trusted in God that He wanted to have a relationship

with Him. He wanted to do God’s will even when it became

difficult. Spending time with God in prayer deepened His

love and trust and helped Him to carry out God’s work in this

world. Following Jesus’ example we too can take care of our-

selves and be able to better care for others. ~Rose Sartore

Rite of Election The Catechumens & Candidates of Holy Redeemer Parish will be

celebrating the Rite of Election with Bishop Thompson at St. Benedict

Cathedral, March 9th, at 2:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Chrism Mass

5:00 pm Mass

April 15th at St. Benedicts Cathedral

All are welcome to attend

“And you shall say to the people of Israel, ‘This shall be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations. It shall not be poured

on the body of an ordinary person, and you shall make no other like it in composition. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you.”

~Exodus 30: 31-33

Stations of the Cross Come walk with me.

Passion of Christ,

strengthen me! Strengthen me

under the pressure of temptation.

Strengthen me when princi-

ple is at stake. Strengthen

me to do Your Will, My God.

Strengthen me in moments

of suffering, in times of lone-

liness, in periods of depres-

sion. Strengthen me that I

may never swerve from You,

dear Christ, nor weaken

through human respect,

through a desire to be

popular, through hope of

social distinction.

Strengthen me to accept my

cross and carry it gener-

ously to the end. On the

battlefield of life, stand by

me that I may never prove a

traitor in the ranks. Stand by

me that I may not be dazzled

by the glitter and glow of the

enemy camp.

During this Lent, we are calling on prayer warriors across the nation… and around the world...to fall on their knees before the Lord, asking Him to hear our plea and heal our land. Prayer warriors across Evansville, IN in all the parishes are being called upon to walk peacefully and prayerfully in front of planned parenthood and pray for the end of Abortion. Easter is coming...

Lenten Book Club Read the Book during Lent and join in a discussion with Mary Freeman as facilitator. The Book is:: The New Evangelization and You: Be Not Afraid. The Cost is just the purchase of the book, $13.64. Please sign up in the Narthex or contact Doug Rasler in the Parish Office by March 5th, to be sure we order enough books.

Many Catholics have heard the phrase "New Evangelization" but don't know what it means or how

they might apply it in their lives. The New Evangelization and You: BE Not Afraid clearly explains

what the New Evangelization is and how it applies to every Catholic. In this short, but lively book,

Greg draws us deeper into our faith and effectively convinces us that each of us has God-given gifts

we can use to share the faith with others.

Page 12

Lord Jesus Christ, you let yourself be nailed to the Cross, accepting the terrible

cruelty of this suffering, the destruction of your body and your dignity. You allowed

yourself to be nailed fast; you did not try to escape or to lessen your suffering. May we

never flee from what we are called to do. Help us to remain faithful to you. Help us to

unmask the false freedom which would distance us from you. Help us to accept your

“binding” freedom, and, “bound” fast to you, to discover true freedom. ~Amen
